Of course even beating the Brigadier himself wasn’t enough for poor old Roberto for some people!

Clivex – my comment was based on suggestion in the RP this morning (online at least) the the KG might now come a bit soon for Authorized

Ok. A pacemaker should win the the race if he is ignored by those that want a slower pace. If he isnt able to, then he is clearly a lousy pacemaker, and any jocks not interested in a strongly run race would be idiots to follow him.

When O Briens horses are put in races they are by and large all put in to win and Im pretty sure the main boss would have been just as happy to see any of the more fertile bunch win it. An intriguing race and IMO a proper race because racing is alot more than just going a mad dash and kindly all steping out of each others way at the end. Run time trials if you want that stuff. There was way more to be discussed about what happened in this.

Good post SirHarry – for me the Eclipse has set up the second half of the season very nicely. Reading comments in the Racing Post online maybe a rematch of the first three at York is a possiblity after all? For me that would be even more eagerly anticipated than the Eclipse was. Any odds out there for the Juddmonte yet? If not – any predictions?
Edit:Oops, I see Prufrock has already more or less asked this question in another thread.

fair point Doyley. Notnowcato has now got three Group 1s to his credit. (plus 1 second and one third in G1s) Both he and jockey did what he had to do today

I would love to see the first three meet again at York – unlikely perhaps – but I thought George appeared to get the trip and would like to see him get another chance at 10f. I thought Heffernan might have let George go a bit sooner than he did.

All jockeys came to the stand side in the next at Sandown. Moore does it again. Would appear to confirm the jocks think the ground made the difference

I agree with DJ – very unsatisfactory for Authorized and George Washington fans – but hats off to Ryan Moore. He made the call when the others didn’t and that’s the difference between winning and losing today. THAT’S RACING!

Quote: from trackside528 on 5:36 pm on Oct. 9, 2006[br]One of the big problems (and certainly the one that scuppered Dylan Thomas on Saturday) is the speed they break from the gate. Whereas in Europe some horses virtually fall out of the stalls, American horses are tuned up to break alertly at speed… and if a horse thats never been on dirt breaks poorly, its curtains…<br>

<br>GW drawn 4 alongside Bernardini in 3 – maybe Mick K. can catch hold of Bernardini’s tail and have him drag George out of the stalls with him.

The Racing Post website reports " GEORGE WASHINGTON has been confirmed as a definite starter in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on the dirt at Churchill Downs on November 4"  I suppose this has been well flagged over the past week. An exciting night guaranteed I believe.<br>

I would echo that Gus.  El Gran Senor was one of my all time favourite horses.  A hugely talented horse.  As you say, a splendid performance at Newmarket. For me his Epsom Derby was one of the most memorable races in the 1980’s.  I thought that race must rank as one of Pat Eddery’s biggest miscalculations in his career. A great run from Secreto of course that day. At the Curragh he showed that he was good enough to win at 12f. (just as the the Brigadier did at Ascot). I believe EGS was without doubt one of the greatest I have seen.  <br>

BBC reports "Traces of ipratropium, which acts in nasal sprays for the treatment of lung diseases, were found in urine samples…..in routine test following the four-year-old’s third-place finish in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris two weeks ago"

Just as well he didn’t win isn’t it!

I agree with you on this one SHL. Having been surprised and dissappointed intiallly with the news of a possible shot at the Classic, I have now come around to appreciating the ‘Why not give it a go’ view.

I see from the Independent Online website Chris McGrath in the Independent on Sunday said <br>"…. at Newmarket on Saturday…Aidan O’Brien revealed that George Washington will definitely tackle the American champion, Bernardini, in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on 4 November". Has anyone heard confirmation that George definitely goes for the Classic?

What SHL? Some real stinkers? Are we talking about the same horse?

I saw a report somewhere that Alexandrova is not going to the Breeders Cup.  Any confirmation of that Aidan?  Is she definitely staying in training next year?

The Criterium International Corm. JB really must feel that Teofilo enjoys his racing.  The RP quotes him as saying "those Group 1s are sweet".  I agree AP – I guess if he has come back from Newmarket in good form and he enjoys his racing then why not?  He seems like a tough nut.  There is a long way to go to next May – a lot can happen between now and then. Only just saw the Dewhurst video last night.  I was impressed with Teofilo but was equally impressed with HRE.  While Teofilo perhaps won a little comfortably, if possible to win comfortably by a head,  Kinane left HRE with an unbelievable amount of ground to make up with 2f to run especially considering he lost his momentum when he got squeezed and fell back to last place. Great performances from both horses and what a brilliant race!
