I can sort of see where bettingboy is coming from; after the runners turned for home, I took one look at Kauto Star & went to make a cup of tea. I’d be exaggerating if I said I returned with my steamy beverage just in time to see Madison Du Berlais pick up some place money for me… but not by much.

Unless the Kempton Park All-Weather Course has altered since outset then details are as follows –

The key features of Kempton Park’s unique floodlit layout are:

~ a right handed track with a bend radius of 137m

~ a 20m wide home straight and bends of 16m width
~ a track designed to accommodate 17 runners in all distances (other than 5f and 6f races)

    ~ the outer track is a ten-furlong (2,000m) oval and will host 6f, 7f, 1m, 1m 3f, 1m 4f and 2m races

~ the inner track is an eight furlong (1,612m) oval which allows for 5f and 1m 2f races
~ 42 floodlights illuminate the track
~ 28 of the poles have the ability to be laid flat so that the view of spectators is not hampered

That’s excellent. Thanks very much. :D

Wide enough to accomodate runner handicaps!!

    Gee, thanks. Very useful!

I’m almost embarassed to raise this thread but I did a Google seach for ‘Kempton Park dimensions’ & got no joy. Actually that’s not strictly true, I did find some info on the size of their floodlights!

hi guys.here are my boxing day selections

    kauto star 3.05 kempton
    rodrigo gonzales 3.40 kempton
take it there 3.15 market rasen
    thedreamstillalive 1.10 wincanton
    sou’wester 2.20 wincanton
    ashkazar 3.25 wincanton
    zitenka 2.10 wetherby

not sure what bets to do with these horses yet, will wait and see what the SPs are on the morning.
    wish me luck

I don’t often take tips but I think I might give those a whirl. Although not at Wetherby (it’s off) & not on Kauto Star (a win’s a win but how much would £1 return on 4/6?)

After last weekend, here was me thinking that Haydock Park is Britains lowest lying racecourse.

anyone who thinks this is not happening is welcome to go and watch the aw spectacle close up and see what you will be welcomed with ……, but for heavens sake do not risk any money on it otherwise you are joining the victims

    cheers

    Ricky

I did alright on Saturday thanks very much. Maybe you should consider betting on something else?

EDIT:I’m sorry, this is a truly awful post. One day I’ll get brave & start a thread explaining why I quite like the AW.

He’s certainly extremely likeable on that basis. I wonder if an attempt is going to be made to try to get Robbie Henderson enough winners between now and April to allow him to ride Ellerslie George in the National – what a thrill that would be for all concerned.

That would certainly be nice. As someone who doesn’t back favourites very often, I like to put my money on horse with a story. It’d be quite a fairytale.

    I’ve thought of some:

    Isambard Kingdom Brunel
    Archibald Leitch
    Nigel Gresley

    Venetia Williams.

Actually, I suppose I’d like to give Mon Mome a big ol’ smacker but it’d be a bit sloppy.

Bloody hell…thats going to go down like a Ena Sharples on Albert Tatlock

But is it a good point? It is by far the biggest economic contributor to the country and time and again beaten off very fierce competition….

Actually, I was just talking from a personal perspective. I’ve arranged to meet people in London in the past who haven’t showed up but there’s always something to see or do that makes it not really matter. You make a good point though.

On the subject of London heroics, I was very proud of the way most people reacted after the 2005 terror attacks. I can imagine alot of Americans are proud of New York for the same reason.

Dennis Skinner; a real constituency mp who always stands by and for what he believes. And everyone in the world who struggles against adversity bravely and without complaint putting people like myself [who whinge against everything] to shame.

I pretty much hate The Labour Party these days but he was MP for many years & he was everything you could ask for in an MP. I remember writing to him about the EU for a school project & he pretty much sent me the entire Commons Library. Top man.

In answer to the question, and it’s going to be a strange answer, my hero is the city of London. People tend to be let downs but that town never has.

Out of pure sentiment, I’d nominate Mon Mome, more so after his creditable third over hurdles a week or so ago.

Also out of pure sentiment, Ellerslie George. I expect your Denmans & Kauto Stars to run well but here’s a horse that’s basically a family pet & from the start he seemed to just decide, ‘I’m going to win this, get out of my way!’

Some day I might vote with my head & not my heart but that’s for another day.

I’m going for Francombe. On a couple of occasions this year, I’ve seen him back long odds horses from The Morning Line to the winning post & being dead right.

I voted for Venetia Williams soley because of Mon Mome. That race was the highlight of my 2009 (which doesn’t say much for my year really does it?!) even though no-one believes that I picked Mon Mome because I thought he had a genuine chance.

I can accept Haydock being cancelled today but it’s pretty poor form to wait until half an hour before racing to do it.

And after the bullish quote on The Morning Line this morning, ‘of course Haydock is racing, we’re Northern’, they’ve just made themselves look like idiots.

Incidentally, I stood at Manchester Piccadilly station this morning & I actually flipped a coin to decide whether to go up to Wigan or down to Wolverhampton. Luckily it landed tails so I went all weathering. I’d never been before so that was something new.

I know alot of people on here hate all weather racing but can I say Wolverhampton deserve a bit of credit today? Getting an eight race card together in such a short space of time (and the quality wasn’t bad considering the circumstances) & then letting the punters in for free. Well done I say.

I was very much reminded today of Hello Bud at the Scottish Grand National.

I will say this though, I think Totherone may probably be the better horse but Ellersie George caught them all by surpirse. I think he caught himself by surprise!

One regret, I wish I’d not tried such a lame joke for the name of this thread!
