well that’s a little sad, not even a long suffering spouse? a loved one?…

My husband, firstly – very long suffering

Historically, a few of Max’s – bravo for that

Today – all those fighting and dying on our behalf, against a cruel foe. How can they not be hero’s, every one.

My spouse is very happy and never suffering, long or short term

I didn’t say they weren’t heroes, there are plenty of heroes – many of them unsung.

The question was "Do you have a hero?" to which the answer is no – plenty of names have been bandied about in this thread some of whom I respect, some of whom I despise and some I am wholly indifferent about.

There is, however, no one person whom I can single out as being particularly heroic above others.

Perhaps my original reply was too ironic – there are too many heroes around to single out individuals.

    ^trust you :)

…a little defensive Paul, if I might say so, that’s how it reads to me anyway.

Replying ‘No’ rather abruptly made me think you don’t like or respect anyone very much, present or past, and I’m sure that wouldn’t be the case as you’ve just highlighted.

I don’t remember ever having a hero as such, anybody wanting to volunteer ? :)

Having given it a few minutes thought I think the RNLI Lifeboat crews ought to be given a mention.

    I’ve thought of some:

    Isambard Kingdom Brunel
    Archibald Leitch
    Nigel Gresley

There are plenty of people I like and many whose achievements I respect. There are some I love. But I don’t have heroes, at least not in the sense in which my dictionary defines – ‘a person reverenced and idealized’. I would never be so unkind to someone as to call them a hero.

    Heroic deeds, certainly. Heroes, no.

Anyway, I just wanted to agree with Paul’s view, not to bring anybody down.
