Vote here for your 2009 Jumps horse of the Year.
December 10, 2009 at 17:19 #263229Kauto Star for his breathtaking performance to regain the Gold Cup absolute perfection and showed his never say die attitude last time out in defeating Imperial Commander in the betfair chase.

December 19, 2009 at 21:37 #264588Out of pure sentiment, I’d nominate Mon Mome, more so after his creditable third over hurdles a week or so ago.
Also out of pure sentiment, Ellerslie George. I expect your Denmans & Kauto Stars to run well but here’s a horse that’s basically a family pet & from the start he seemed to just decide, ‘I’m going to win this, get out of my way!’
Some day I might vote with my head & not my heart but that’s for another day.
December 19, 2009 at 21:57 #264595I know what you mean; in the days when Dessie was racing and we all adored him there was a horse called Ida’a Delight..he never won big races but I used to think to myself that that was the sort of horse that would give you so much pleasure to own.

He’s certainly extremely likeable on that basis. I wonder if an attempt is going to be made to try to get Robbie Henderson enough winners between now and April to allow him to ride Ellerslie George in the National – what a thrill that would be for all concerned.

That would certainly be nice. As someone who doesn’t back favourites very often, I like to put my money on horse with a story. It’d be quite a fairytale.
