The RP staff are compiling a ’50 most stunning racing moments’ thing (tomorrow).
Let’s have a go at it ourselves.
The moment I saw ‘Zarooni under investigation’ would be a wow moment people would maybe rather sweep under the carpet.
Sprinter Sacre was pretty stunning to watch at Cheltenham and Aintree, at his peak he was a real beast.
Stunnning moments, must be plenty more.
January 11, 2015 at 23:29 #501185Dancing Brave – Arc
Arazi – Breeders CupJanuary 11, 2015 at 23:32 #501186Couple from the jumps……
Desert Orchid wins Gold Cup
Kauto Star’s 5th King GeorgeJanuary 11, 2015 at 23:49 #501190It has to be Arazi for me. That close up of him going past horses on the home turn was reminiscent of those naff American films where the heroes horse goes past the others as if they aren’t there and you’re sat there thinking this would never happen in real life.
January 11, 2015 at 23:51 #501191I’ll try to avoid the obvious – The last 2f of Sariskas Irish Oaks dropped my jaw a touch.
Black Caviars jock dropping hands at Ascot after ALL that build up had me in temporary Koi mode.
Airwaves Temple Stakes widened my eyes .
Harchibalds 04 Morgiana – I remember thinking what the hell is THAT cruising upsides?
January 12, 2015 at 00:16 #501196Arazi was breathtaking in the Breeders Cup, but for me the Dayjur shadow hurdling in the Breeder’s Cup Sprint, which cost him the race, was more astonishing and a real "Devon Loch" moment.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 12, 2015 at 01:01 #501199My own stunning moment from last year was watching a humble 2yo maiden at Ayr in May.
Probably not many people saw the race, and coming to the 2f pole there was no hint about the way the field would become strung out like a race at the Cheltenham festival in the last two furlongs.
The race can be viewed here:-

I was sufficiently "wowed" to create a thread about the race on the forum but have to confess that I didn’t expect that I had just witnessed the future Coventry winner, in the form of
The Wow Signal
.
There will be plenty of predictable entries in the Racing Post team’s list but for me to see a race at Ayr throwing up a Royal Ascot winner and potential classic contender was an astonishing moment.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 12, 2015 at 02:14 #501201As others have said Arazi’s Breeders Cup and Frankel’s Guineas were real WOW moments that will never be forgotten.
The other WOW moments that spring to mind are Master Minded winning the Champion Chase by a street and Denman beating Kauto Star in the Gold Cup.
January 12, 2015 at 05:34 #501202I’m sure I could think of many, but there are two that instantly spring to mind.
One is Tidal Bay winning the Lexus. I relive it on YouTube regularly, and each time I’m amazed at how close to the line it was before he made his final surge.
Another I can watch when I want cheering up from time to time is The Tatling’s final race. Think it was at Wolvers. He was the 16/1 outsider, but put in a final burst of speed to just get there before the line. Fantastic!
Oh, and anything Splash of Ginge has won
January 12, 2015 at 09:37 #501209Arazi
winning at the Breeders cup was the only totally mind blowing stunning moment for me but plenty Wow moments include.
Rainbow Quest
winning the Coronation Cup,
El Gran Senor
losing the Derby.
Petong
winning the Haydock Sprint cup.
Nortons coin
winning the Gold cup.
Royal Athlete
winning the Grand National at 66/1 because Jenny told me he would win it 6 months prior.
Desert Orchid beating Panto Prince
.
Pebbles
winning the 1000gns.
Wichita Lineman
winning at Cheltenham,
Albertas Run
winning his first Ryanair,
Dancing Brave
winning the 2000gns/Arc and getting beat in the Derby and
Shutthefrontdoor
winning the 2015 Gold cup at 100/1 to name but a few.
January 12, 2015 at 10:38 #501214Stumbled across this earlier while considering a similar thing myself

Take a look at question 9

How many things can you get wrong in one paragraph and have they never heard of Istabraq & Hardy Eustace ?

Aye the question should read "regained the CH" and the explanation obviously should read 2011 and 2013 defeating 2012 winner Rock On Ruby and 2010 champion Binocular, which they have not named for some reason

Can’t see it happening but it would be a stunning moment to see him win the 2015 renewal
January 12, 2015 at 11:32 #501225Kauto Star when jumping one right was pure poetry in motion.
The most spectacular, natural and beautiful thing you can witness in racing with stride, take off, shape, distance and landing judged to perfection. Sprinter Sacre very similar when putting in a good leap.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

I’m not buying that Homer. This is their answer, which you’ve obviously read
to win back-to-back events is almost unheard of. However, this is exactly what Irish thoroughbred Hurricane Fly did in 2013
. The Irish-trained gelding eased to victory in 2012, a race for which he was 4/5 favourite. He then returned to Cheltenham the
following year
and, ridden by Ruby Walsh and at odds of 9/4, he beat a strong field containing Rock on Ruby and 2010 champion to become the first horse since Comedy of Errors back in 1975 to complete the double
He never "eased" to either of his wins and his SPs prior to last year were 11/4, 4/6 (beaten) & 13/8
Although their reference to Comedy of Errors does imply they were sort of talking about regaining rather than retaining.

January 12, 2015 at 11:55 #501232Gloria Victis pinging his way around Kempton as a novice under 11-12, annihilating them all from the front in the Racing Post Chase. Time would show that runner-up Marlborough had over 30lbs in hand over his mark of 136 that day.
It was an absolutely astounding performance on every level – visually and in the formbook.
January 12, 2015 at 12:01 #501233I think the original question was supposed to be about the regaining of the crown, but when this was asked wrongly and the question re-read, they then dreamt something up and totally ignored HE and Istabraq by going back to the original question they thought they were asking
If HF was 9/4 SP that day then I should have got a bit more on my Lucky 15 4-timer
January 12, 2015 at 12:14 #501235Desert Orchid winning his first King George was what got me from an interested to a committed enthusiast of NH racing, I thought it stunning this grey jumping a quality field into submission
