There are many favourites but for wow moments the obvious ones such as Arazi, Dessie, etc. have already been mentioned so I’ll go for Run for Free in the 93 Scottish National.
Unbelievable and for those who haven’t seen it

Helps that I backed a winner – and how’s that for after timing?
More recently I remember being gobsmacked at the acceleration shown by Moonlight Cloud in the 2013 Prix de la Foret.

January 12, 2015 at 14:42 #501258Again, probably a race not many of the general public saw but Midnight Lute winning the 2007 Breeders Cup Sprint was a definite WTF was that moment.
The conditions were awful but considering the short trip and how far behind the two leaders coming round the home turn he was, it was an astonishing finish and I wonder what the odds in running were?
The race is here for anyone who never saw it:-

Wow!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 12, 2015 at 15:04 #501261Lee, Could watch that all day, love that race, and loved Run For Free. He was so unlucky the following year at Aintree, lobbing along when he was brought down.
January 12, 2015 at 15:10 #501262For me, easily the 2 definitive Gold Cups of my lifetime……..The Dickinson 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in 1983, and as already mentioned, Desert Orchid in 1989. Again, could watch both races all day.
I loved Denmans Gold Cup as well, but probably not a "stunning moment" as such………unlike his 2 wins in The Hennessy Gold Cup, which have to be up there.
January 12, 2015 at 15:38 #501264Happened yesterday at Kelso when Scrafton (now nicknamed Scrotum by me) had a Mad Moose moment yards before the winning line depriving me of a nice Yankee.
January 12, 2015 at 16:19 #501269Lord Gyllene winning the 1997 Grand National was stunning. The most one sided National I ever saw and to add to the shocking ease of his win, he was 11/1 on the last show, yet returned at an astonishing SP of 14/1. Still hard to believe either occurrence.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Must have taken his eye off the
ball

January 12, 2015 at 17:47 #501275Nijinsky winning the Derby.Absolute class
January 12, 2015 at 18:57 #501285Red Rum’s 1st and 3rd National wins. And Desert Orchid slogging through the mud to get his well deserved Gold Cup.

I remember the Desert Orchid one. I had a friend round for a cup of tea and a natter, and she must have thought I was nuts leaping around the room with excitment and yelling st the tv.
Why I had anyone round on Gold Cup day I can’t imagine.January 13, 2015 at 01:29 #501343Pendil winning the Arkle in 1974. It sad there is so little footage of him available, he was the most amazing jumper I’ve ever seen.
And Dawn Run turning the Aintree Hurdle into a procession in 1984; when we talk about the great hurdlers we forget she was the only one to win Irish, English and French Champion Hurdles, and all in the same year. Shame that greed stopped her reaching her full potentialJanuary 13, 2015 at 07:50 #501348I’d have to say that I’m not a fan of the all weather, nor am I a follower of the flat. I also have virtually zero interest in American racing but all that being said ZENYATTA’S career and final swan song will always stick in my memory as an incredible performance and spectacle.
January 13, 2015 at 09:51 #501352I thought i posted this already.. Purely personal but bettng on Fiepes Shuffle at 75/1 with 50 sterling only to see it fall at the last in the agfa hurdle. My previous biggest bet was 5 quid and was just finished college and had basically nothing in the bank. Boy, did that hurt… I still shake my head when i think about it.
Other than that, the void national really sticks in my head. I dont know if that was stunning or just surreal??

January 13, 2015 at 10:19 #501358Hurricane Fly’s novice hurdle at Leopardstown is one I was lucky to be in attendance for. Oscar Delta’s Foxhunter calamity was a real wtf moment too.
January 13, 2015 at 10:29 #501359I thought about including that one Tommy, but still far too painful.
Thanks lol
January 14, 2015 at 11:07 #501466In a similar vein, and equally painful on a personal level, clear leader Caveman ducking out up the run-in at Towcester when about to make count months of waiting and plotting.

January 14, 2015 at 13:36 #501480Not a big name horse but Iris de Balme winning the Scottish National, Zarkava the Arc and being at Ascot to see Montjeu winning the King George VI and Queen elizabeth Stakes, breathtaking.
