Thanks LD – the more I watch it the more impressed I am with WP. In fact I wasn’t 100% convinced about him UNTIL yesterday. His dam produced a dirt Breeders Cup winner and this one has an action suited to that surface or to much quicker ground. I’ll make a prediction now – you will never see that horse run on soft ground again. But to win anyway despite the ground and hold-ups they have had with him marks him down as being pretty special. You also have to listen to what JG, Frankie and the owners said to know what they think of the horse. John Gunther was more nervous about THIS race than he was when Justify ran in the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday!
I am hoping we get a Frankel showdown at RA between this one and Elarqaam..

May 26, 2018 at 13:25 #1355098Hoping to see a good fun from Elarqam today at tne Curragh, just had a small Combination double with Tasleet, Elarqam and Symbolization as I was very impressed with the latter at Newmarket last time out and although he has to improve a lot to win this he could run a big race today.
Everything crossed for our boy Elarqam to romp home later this afternoon
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 26, 2018 at 14:32 #1355118THe Grand Visir regains the winning thread – change of tactics (held up) seemed to work well although turning for home with one behind him in a steadily run race I had my doubts but crossing the line he was at his strongest and won a tad cosily.
Will be interesting to see where he goes next but an Ascot Gold Cup entry seems a bit shooting at the stars – think he could do well in races like the Northumberland Plate, Ebor, Ces or similar races.
May 26, 2018 at 15:21 #1355127Forgot to mention that the unbeaten Goldrush steps into much deeper water when she takes on Hydrangea over in Ireland – she receives a handy 3lb from Aiden’s horse who was last seen winning over 12F on soft ground, so today’s 1m trip could be on the short side for her now.
May 26, 2018 at 15:53 #1355133Nice win for Mirage Dancer at Goodwood, turned into a bit of a sprint but by the line he was striding out really powerfully and was well clear – think this could be a real nice older horse for Stoute and he should maybe looking at plundering some G1s in Europe which are not always that competitive affairs.
Another target worth considering is the Canadian International as Stoute has won it twice in the last four years with similar older types in Cannock Chase & Hillstar and Mirage Dancer is from the family of Banks Hill and Intercontinental who were well know for being globe trotters.

May 28, 2018 at 12:46 #1355247Looks like Elarqam might not have been 100%
May 28, 2018 at 16:17 #1355262Much more like it from Aljazeera today, winning a vey decent conditions race at St Cloud. She was ridden more positively today as she seeds to be. Back on course for Group success I hope.

June 1, 2018 at 15:29 #1355602Wow! That was the most panicky I’ve been watching a race since Frankel almost got pipped in the SJP. He never travelled a yard and only his class got him home. SDS is a genius from the front at Epsom and he so nearly stole it. Phew!!

June 1, 2018 at 16:11 #1355616It was reminiscent of when Golden Horn got beat at York

June 1, 2018 at 23:19 #1355708Hope you enjoyed your day Joni, it was so very close, just a gutsy performance from a class act, needless to say he’ll never run at Epsom again. His time was 2 seconds quicker than the Oaks.
Ganayem won today at Goodwood.

.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 2, 2018 at 07:21 #1355742Thanks Chaos and Jac. Yes a good day though I never feel fully at home trying to watch racing surrounded by drunk men and “ladies”. Must be getting old…. Cracksman gave all of us a real scare but he got the job done in the end. He was very slow to find top gear and he’ll need to sharpen up for his bigger battles that lie ahead. But in the same way we can’t judge Frankel based on his three-quarter length beating of Zoffany or Golden Horn on his defeat by Arabian Queen, I don’t think we can judge Cracksman on what he did yesterday. A horse with a record of 7 wins from 9 including 5 group wins deserves to be forgiven the odd poor run. He looked magnificent (will try and upload photos) and was very laid back in the paddock. He is a massive horse that seems to find Epsom far too twisty and turny and uppy and downy! I can’t wait to be at Ascot for the POW where I am sure we will see the real Cracksman once again.
Have a lovely holiday Jac xxx

June 2, 2018 at 13:20 #1355837Just an update on Cracksman, apparently he banged his head quite hard in the stalls just before they opened, jG said that was why he was a little slow coming out and he was probably a little dazed.
Enjoy your holiday Jac.

June 3, 2018 at 09:23 #1355990Amazing news from Japan as Mozu Ascot wins the Yasuda Kinen and becomes Frankel’s 3rd Group 1 winner!! Look at Jess Samy’s twitter feed for a replay. He came from nowhere. Great start to the day!
