Thanks Ginge and Patrick, yes you are right that Cunco went to the US and it was Senator that joined Seven Heavens in Hong Kong.

Great half term write up Joni I will be keeping a copy of this for future reference to go along your end of term write up on Frankel’s first season. Thank you for taking the time to write it. :good:

I can’t believe how quickly the flat season is flying by and this is the time of year when the form can start to change with those less exposed horses coming out and beating those that have been on the go since the start of the season.

I think that Atty Persse deserves another chance something was amiss in running at Newmarket last Thursday because he looked extremely well in the pre parade ring and in the paddock, went to post well too. Roger Charlton was called into the Stewards Room after the race to explain his poor run, never heard the outcome of that, perhaps he clipped heels with another horse in running as he faded quickly and was eased…Jac :rose:

    Stewards Report from BHA website:

THE BAHRAIN TROPHY STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 3)

The Stewards considered the running of ATTY PERSSE (IRE) ridden by James Doyle and trained by Roger Charlton, which finished unplaced. The Stewards noted the rider’s explanation that the colt stopped quickly, the trainer could offer no further explanation for the colt’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Thanks MV it mostly confirms my thoughts, on a possible clipping of heels, as to why Atty Persse may have stopped so quickly.

If you watch the video of the race again there is a point about two thirds into the race where the 2nd horse Desert Skyline comes very close to Atty Persse who was running on but could possibly have been tiring getting to the uphill finish. Desert Skyline comes close to AP and passes him with not much room to spare, it is then that AP begins to quickly drop back to the point where he is no longer in contention and is eased.

I hope it was nothing more sinister than this. Very disappointed that he didn’t win but full credit to Raheen House. Let’s hope AP is back on track for his next race..Jac

Thanks for the feedback Jac! Looking forward to seeing Baghdad run tomorrow if only because it is my twins name for their Grandad (my dad). When they were very little they couldn’t say “Grandad” and said “Bagdad” instead. If you knew my father you would know how appropriate the name was – he is a walking disaster area!! – so the name stuck. They love their Badgad!!

Look forward to seeing Baghdad out later today Joni, let’s hope he’s not a walking disaster area too ;-) and steals victory from the in form Varian contender..Jac :rose:

Baghdad wasn’t quite up to it but Harba won well showing much improved form. Hopefully she’s ahead of the handicapper…..

Jac, I’ve watched the race several times and I did notice that Atty Persse ended up close to the horse in front of him. To be honest, I don’t think any contact was made. Watching the race several more times, I think that the key thing to note is Atty Persse is already weakening and after any potential incident may have occured, Atty Persse’s jockey gives the horse two smacks of the whip. Had anything happened, surely the Jockey would not have kept laying into his mount. You can see the jockey thinking about using the stick again, but after raising the whip, he stops halfway and just put’s it down because he has realised the horse has nothing left. It is well before the final furlong pole that he begins easing the horse down.

The only reason Atty Persse ended up with Desert Skyline in front of him is because he is weakening relative to the other horse. They were going neck and neck earlier and then, as Desert Skyline starts staying on a bit and Atty Persse is weakening, he wanders across the Charlton colt. Given the respective momentum of each horse, I would say it is unlikely that contact was made.

This was Atty Persse’s toughest task so far. It was over an extra furlong and the ground was not as fast as he had run over last time. In retrospect, he was much better value last time, when running from 93 in a handicap, getting a stone from the best horse in the race with the jockey’s 3 lb claim. He was 7/1 that day, yet off level terms and no 3lb claim in the Bahrain Trophy he was 11/4 Fav with a horse rated 8 lbs higher than him in the field.

Atty Persse has finished a distance behind his field that would make you feel something must have been amiss. Perhaps there was something but the vet found nothing, as Marginal Value reported. If you watch the replay below, you can see that the jockey eased down so much that the horse was never racing for more than a full furlong. That means he was always going to be beaten by miles.

It’s a tough one to be 100% confident on but I don’t think there was any contact and I think Atty Persse’s remoteness at the finish was largely due to his jockey wisely accepting that defeat was inevitable and that coasting home was the kindest thing, and the most sensible with the future in mind:-

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I think you are right. It was just an off day and he probably wasn’t ready for the step up in grade. We have seen a few horses come out of Royal Ascot and then disappoint. Atty Persse was probably paying for his exertions there.

Yes, he was definitely looked after in the closing stages and with Roger Charlton being unable to offer a reasonable explanation for his bad performance I suppose we have to assume that the Ascot race had taken its toll although he never changed his legs the petrol just ran out out so quickly.
I suppose we must therefore forgive him that run and give him another chance to redeem himself..Jac :rose:

Myself and Simon Cowell have been recording Joni’s singing as he has a brilliant singing voice. He really should start up a thread in the lounge with all his hits anyway enough about that. Whilst filming one of the camera guys forgot to turn off the record button when he went for his all paid for by Joni cup of tea and biscuit and we found the following footage of Joni in talks with one of Prince Abdullah’s men.

LOL Nathan but the captions never came out when I viewed it.
I thought it was more like Steve and Joni having the final set too over the racing ‘Championship’ Thread. ;-)

Back to Frankel (very much not a dud thank you Nathan  )
Simon Crisford has a Frankel colt Red Mist running tomorrow in the 7.10 at Sandown with Silvestre De Sousa on board. Being out of a Red Ransom mare Red Dune he may need this first run, but he is favourite at present over the very useful Bold Reason trained by John Gosden (Dettori) who is my idea of the winner.

I don’t think I will be having a bet in this one and would of course love Red Mist to win, might be worth a reverse forecast:-

Nathan Hughes you are a genius – there is no doubt about it!!! I hate you obviously but what would we do without you?!!!

Also looking forward to seeing Red Mist and just as intriguing that tomorrow finally sees the debut of Nelson, the half-brother to US Army Ranger who has been the subject of good reports. Ryan is riding the other one so he may not be up to winning it but Aiden’s rarely are fully tuned first time up.

Despite doing everything wrong Red Mist wins on debut. Looks a nice type that will appreciate further than 7f.

Yes nice maiden win for Red Mist, think I would have been on the edge of my seat if I’d had a bet but he’s going to be a nice sort, despite running green just got the job done from the more experienced horse.
