Laleston was fine, Colin, although the ground was among the worst maintained I’d seen all season – the woodchip section mentioned in my other post had been replaced by sand, and not very much of it, whilst spiking of the turf had been performed in a very random manner.
Still got 40-odd runners, though, more than plenty of other meetings at the weekend, although the arrival of the dope wagon just before racing was enough to keep a few more potential participants in their boxes. Really really!
Saw some good rides, some bad ones, and at least one potentially lethal horse – about par for a point meeting, then! First ever winning rides were registered by Lucy Price (a chartered accountant) and Tom Houlbrooke, whilst dual Aintree National Pony Championship winner Rhys Flint (son of trainer John) took a last fence fall on his first ever run between the flags, having looked reasonably polished up to that point.
Next stop Dingley later today, followed – hopefully – by Ashorne on Monday!

May 8, 2007 at 13:41 #103277My first visit to Chester tomorrow.
Anyone else going?
Colin
May 8, 2007 at 16:58 #103278Colin,
Hope you enjoy yourself at Chester – my home town.
I’m sure you know all this but, if you’re driving there, get there early – 12 o’clock would not be too soon. Those romans had no idea how to build roads for cars.
It’s been pouring down for the last hour in town; hope it’s better tomorrow.
Looking for a decent pint? Head for the Mill Hotel just outside the City Walls – great selection of top class bitters and at reasonable prices too!
Good Luck.
May 8, 2007 at 18:05 #103279Cheers, Insomniac, that’s just the sort of information I appreciate!!!!;)

May 8, 2007 at 20:14 #103280Um, well so far this week it’s Goodwood, Chester, Ascot & possibly Plumpton!
May 10, 2007 at 08:21 #103281Dingley and Ashorne point-to-points for me so far this week, with Folkestone’s all hunter chase card next Thursday the next port of call.

May 13, 2007 at 23:23 #103282A few of us were going to Newton Abbot on Tuesday but i’ve been informed that it’s 95% certain to be off :(
May 14, 2007 at 13:02 #103283Newton Abbot’s off but I shall be doing my best Daniel Craig impersonation (aaarrrgghhh!!!) at Huntingdon tomorrow evening.
May 17, 2007 at 10:48 #103284Confirmed for Folkestone this evening – I’ll be (as always) the black-clad speccy tool, this time doubtless seething at the £17 admission fee for the Tatts on what’s just a hunter chase card, when all is said and done.

Rory, baby, don’t know how to break this to you……it was crap. Your impersonation that is…..
May 19, 2007 at 20:16 #103286Towcester on Tuesday with around 100 other people from work for a race that is being run in memory of a much-loved colleague who was sadly killed in a road accident last year at the age of 22. It will be a emotional night but also, hopefully, a fitting tribute.
Then, on to Stratford on Friday night
May 22, 2007 at 15:21 #103287Have a good one, HJ – yes, almost certainly an emotionally-charged night, especially given the tragic circumstances behind it.
And enjoy Stratters as well. Any thoughts on the big one on Saturday already?
Whit Monday will see me watching the ‘osses from somwhere or other next. Unless I’m required at a point-to-point anywhere, it’ll be a trip up to God’s own Cartmel. But of course!

May 23, 2007 at 21:56 #103288Stratford on Saturday, followed by Uttoxeter on Sunday.
That pretty much brings in the nice period of Startford and Worcester meetings throughout the summer. A good stiking plaster until racing starts again, next October.
May 23, 2007 at 22:03 #103289Bangor tomorrow, just for a change!!!
Then, Wolverhampton next Friday & Hereford next Sunday.
May 25, 2007 at 08:15 #103290It’s Bonvilston point-to-point this Monday for me now – I will forego the many delights of Cartmel until a little later into the summer. But get there again I most certainly will!

May 25, 2007 at 21:10 #103291Hope Towcester was a fitting event HJ – terrible shame.
May 29, 2007 at 15:17 #103292It certainly was a fitting event, there was a big turnout – both from work and from family members. The marquee was full to bursting point and everyone had an enjoyable time.
Best part of the evening by far was when the owners of Bob Mountain (the winner of the memorial race) announced that they would donate a percantage of the prize money to the trust fund that had been set up in Sarah’s memory. A terrific gesture.
Stratford on Friday was a cracking day out – everyone in our box seemed to have backed Southwestern in the John Corbett Cup so everyone wenr home extremely happy. The downside – the poor unfortunate souls who had to witness my ugly boat race grinning inanely whilst up on the podium helping out with the presentation.
