    I suppose that was inevitable.

As it happens, it is almost exactly a year to the day since Jim was sacked by Southport. It was on the Wednesday of Cheltenham week, after the loss to Marine the night before.

The home tickets have now all gone for the semi final. The away tickets went on sale today. I think it can safely said it will be a sell out and the largest crowd at Haig Avenue since the loss of our league status.

Eastleigh V Brackley in the National League tonight.
Brackley have proved they can score against teams at the top, Eastleigh just one place above them.

Sorry to find out that Kevin Lynch, a former Southport player, has been badly injured in an alleged attack on him. The case is ongoing but it is a matter of public record that one of his alleged assailants is Joey Barton.

It must be about 20 years since Lynch played for Southport. He went on to be manager of Marine, Prescot Cables and City of Liverpool.

I hope he will be OK but it sounds like he might lose the sight in one eye, which would be awful.

I believe the alleged assault took place outside Huyton and Prescot golf course. That place used to be quite picky over who was allowed to have membership. Standards must have slipped if they allowed Barton to join..

A sign of Southport’s improvement is we are odds on to win today! That hasn’t been the case very often this season.

It won’t be straightforward. Oxford are fighting for every point. They have had some good wins this season. But we have a team now which I believe can compete with any in the division. We were excellent in the second half on Tuesday night.

Plenty of tickets have been sold for today. The club said anyone who bought a ticket could go into the first ballot for the Trophy semi final. That prompted lots of people to buy a ticket for today, so I wonder how many will actually show up.

I hope they show up CAS, I dont think Oxford will cause to many problems. But Southport need to be focused on this and not the S/F

Yes, it is still a big game even though the league table looks much healthier now.

After the Yeovil game, we were faced with a run of four winnable games. We won the two games that were arguably the toughest on paper: Peterborough Sports away and Spennymoor at home. We can’t let standards slip against Oxford and Alfreton next Tuesday. Win both and we will be on 51 points, almost certainly safe and able to go into the semi final and give it everything.

I think Neil Danns will have them well prepared today. I also think the Trophy run has helped. A few players have raised their game in the hope of playing against Southend.

    Cobbs V Burton
    Quorn V Banbury
    Brackley V Woking

So Cobbs have Colin Calderwood in charge as the Temp manager, hes done it before, so knows whats needed.

Banbury on a good run at present, but that must end soon, Quorn are in the play offs.

Brackley need to start winning and that needs to be against Woking today.

    Cobbs 15/8
    Quorn 8/5
    Brackley 6/4
    Treble 2@ 17.68

    Correct score PAT 0.5
    Cobbs 3-1 22s
    Quorn 2-1 8s
    Brackley 3-1 18s

    Cobbs 4-1 1.5@50s

Bad result for Brackley and not much better for Southport!

We were OK in the first half but we simply didn’t show up after the interval. Low on energy and ideas and about as poor as I have seen us play all season.

Maybe it was just “one of those days” and can be written off – but they will need to do much better against Alfreton on Tuesday. A big, physical side which is not frightened to put itself about.

At least the other results were favourable, apart from Hereford beating South Shields. I am fairly sure they will stay up.

Morecambe 1 Braintree 1, with the away team equalising deep into added time. A tough one for Jim but it keeps Brackley two points clear of the drop zone.

Clean sweep of defeats for my lot today, thankfully I was out. So didnt have any radio coverage.
If Cobbs keep this up, Ill be backing them for relegation from League 2 to the National League next season.

Southports season is all about that Southend match in two weeks time. I truly hope you make it to Wembley. Maybe get a refundable train ticket just in case its Southport and Marine..Actually that maybe a nasty combination of fans travelling down the same day..

If we win, I will travel on the Saturday. I have provisionally booked a hotel in London for the weekend but with a free to cancel option.

There isn’t really that much animosity between Southport and Marine supporters, mainly because until last season we hadn’t played each other much for many years (outside of the county cup).

A few Southport fans are a bit resentful of Marine’s recent ascent after they banked all the money from the Tottenham game and mock some of their supporters for only getting on board since then. But generally the atmosphere between both sets of supporters is OK. If both teams reach the final, I would be surprised if there was any trouble.

The two teams play each other on Good Friday, six days after the semi finals.

Always good to have plans in place, as a back up..two matches for the price of one for finals day. :good:
