Another winnable race not won by NDB.
March 14, 2025 at 13:27 #1723789I thought there might be a huge priced shock winner in this with so many horses that hadn’t even ran in public but didn’t back the one that won!
March 14, 2025 at 13:28 #1723790I take it back. They jumped ok, no massive pile up, and one of them only won.
March 14, 2025 at 13:28 #1723791Willie can just feck off with that.
Ruined my day.
March 14, 2025 at 13:29 #1723792Its a fair point Willie makes, if the horse was even remotely fancied Tony Bloom would have made sure it was nowhere near 100/1
March 14, 2025 at 13:31 #1723793Cracking piece of trivia to file away, though… there can’t have been many beaten favourites in the Cambridgeshire who won at 100/1 next time out.
March 14, 2025 at 13:44 #1723795I kept looking on oddschecker to see if there was any money going on the outsiders but there wasn’t. So many unknown quantities in the race. I’m only relieved that, with so many horses never having jumped a fence in public, that there were no fallers.
March 14, 2025 at 13:45 #1723796So much salt in Nico’s interview on ITV just then. I don’t know what it is about him but I find him very unlikable when he’s been beat
March 14, 2025 at 13:49 #1723799I think he’s got a point about one trainer running 11 horses in one race, though…
March 14, 2025 at 13:57 #172380311 runners is a bit crazy but it is not too long ago that the Henderson yard had the first three home in the Triumph. I don’t suppose they were worried about a stable having multiple entries then.
March 14, 2025 at 14:22 #1723811ITV racing prog just showed a winning betting slip from the venue.
£100 e/w at 150/1 on Poniros; winnings of £18kMarch 14, 2025 at 14:24 #1723812I’m starting to see what others do in Nicos finishing drive.
He looked like a jockey from the 70s coming up the hill.

Come on CAS.
There is a big difference between having 3 horses and 11 horses in the same race.Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2025 at 13:13 #1724122There would have been only 9 runners in the race if Mullins ha been restricted to 3. Without the Fred Winter it’s unlikely any of the unraced Mullins horses would have got a run. If you don’t want certain horses to run in certain races (Ryanair, Fred Winter, Mares etc) don’t give them the option and if they do, don’t start moaning when they take the option up.
Don’t see any good reason why any trainer should be restricted in numbers in a race if the number of runners are under the safety limit. Mullins’s will have been better schooled than some trainers with only one runner and he did have the winner.
March 15, 2025 at 14:59 #1724135“Mullins’s will have been better schooled than some…”
By his own admission, Willie barely schools his horses.
March 15, 2025 at 19:25 #1724169As long as the Mullins horses ALL run on their merits, I don’t think it makes much difference how many he runs in a Championship race. The stable favourite doesn’t always win and I can’t envisage one of his leading owners purposely ‘losing’ so another can win.
Although a little surprised, I wasn’t bothered about three unraced over hurdles horses running in the race from that stable.
It wasn’t as though this was their racing debut and I’d be pretty confident that they could jump, even if they hadn’t been extensively schooled.
What I do question is the betting angle……….how do you factor in a horse that hasn’t jumped a hurdle in public?

Gina Bryce said to Willie in an interview after the race that the horse had no jumping experience. Willie replied “No but we’ve done a good bit of jumping with him at home.” as you would expect.
