I have given myself part of the day off today – it looks
grey, damp, and miserable outside and interludes have been filled with spatterings of rain and a blank canvas of people treading the pavements. I have enjoyed a relaxing time doing more or less nothing but also messing about in the lounge past and found and managed to defreeze my old acorn.

Razeen who had deleted the worst of his offending post after 63 minutes was quickly removed ( Jim wrote..’ Wow Raz is really fraz ‘ ) His reinstatement was supported by JimJTS, Grasshopper, Insomniac, Drone and Sky and myself – so some heavyweights. When I brought this up later ( a respectful time after Daylight’s death, Matron was still opposed and laid any change of mind at David Cormack’s feet. Nothing happened and the lounge had its lights out and has remained in relative darkness for a decade and a half. Social media upped its game and people were converted. These large data giants soon realized that controversial personages like Razeen were their bread and butter to increase clicks substantially. TRF learned this very late in the day that’s why Pilsen and Lake were allowed to run rampant on this board for so long. The data giants soon created algorithms to create fictitious clones to argue and cause the much needed controversy. ( Parler (taken down last Sunday by its competitors) did not, to its credit, follow suit with these contrivances for the 2:years it was in operation.

On the other important matter of the list I believe I can fill in the missing years but can anyone listed please confirm if I am wrong.

    2006…Graysons Column

2005 – cancelled by Daylight for some reason ( possibly he forgot and he felt there was not enough time to set up)

Razeen admirably decided to organise his own Poster of the Year comp to keep it going -which was extremely well received. Diane Avis won convincingly.
    ( Ian Davies )

    2004 David Cormack

2003 Ian Davies ( runner up Grasshopper )

2002 Ian Davies ( runner up Grasshopper)

I believe the comp started in 2002. If it was started in 2001 I believe David Cormack won it that year ( possibly Insomniac was runner up) that is my doubt – have sided with it starting in 2002. I was nominated the first or second year (2003/4) and I came 4th and Daylight was 5th.

    The list… :mail: possibly completed

That’s very good of you Nathan maybe wait a little time for any feedback or corrections, but I sort of think I am right.

I fully realise these things I write about and even bang on about don’t concern the vast majority in here who are wedded to the present and more recent decade but they do seem important to me.

:mail: some might say he’s a bit daft.

“Matron was still opposed and laid any change of mind at David Cormack’s feet.”

    Absolutely correct.

Thank you Nathan for updating the “old” poster of the year records laid out in the Competition section. I see your humour is still intact 🧐

P.S. Please challenge their accuracy as Einstein never got everything right !

Happy to confirm that I won two poster awards, but not the 2006 renewal.

If I remember rightly I barely posted on TRF during 2006, as the fair folk at the cheerily doomed Sportsman had first refusal on both my time and most of the words in my brain for the first ten months of it. Thereafter, thoughts turned to getting a corpus of work on my blog sufficiently quickly to use as a potential calling card should anyone else in the sport have been mad enough to employ me (turns out they were).

I can’t recall who might have been the actual 2006 winner. I’d like to think perhaps one of Rory, Zoz, Zome or Happy Jack, but that’s mere guesswork nearly a decade and a half on.

Thanks Grays fir your kindness in correcting the record, and not many around here can do it twice – I have more than a strong inkling who it was in 2006, and the man that matched your fine total, and it’s obvious really when you think of the year – it was the one and only David Cormack.

The powers that be have caught up with me and I find myself a mere participant so will not be able to adjust the roll of honour at the moment but will do after Cheltenham when updating other competition results
Nice to see you back on here Jeremy.. :good:

Aye, agree that Corm having won it that year would make perfect sense.

Oh and ta for the kind words, Nathan and Friendsheep! No idea how long this stay will last, as life has been getting in the way of such Web 2.0-related pursuits something rotten of late; but as the great philosopher Lord Tommo of the Crown Inn, Bawtry once said, let’s see what happens…

Are you still in Steel city GC?

In comparison with other large cities, Covid has been quite kind I think. All those hills keep the lungs healthy :-)

Indeed yes, Drone, for nine of the last eleven years including the last seven and a half. Unless circumstances necessitate or accommodate (delete as applicable) a move to Scotland or Darmstadt in the future, we’re Sheffo for good now and will be very happy to remain so.

Covid hasn’t sunk its claws into this neck of the woods as much as many, it’s true, such that we were in a lower tier than anywhere else in Yorkshire immediately prior to the present lockdown. We’re quite good at doing as we’re told around here, all in all.

I honestly can’t remember when I won it or whether I won it twice. Unlikely I won in 2001 I don’t think however as I would have been very new then if on here at all and not sure we even had any voting on here then for that accolade.

I have allowed you to linger and fester too long Corm, with your outlandish post, a true five years out of date. There was no comp in the 9/11 changed world year to my memory. The first firestarter games was in 2002 and I was pleased to scramble past Daylight limping home in a miserable, out of the money, fifth place.

The fact that not one soul has corrected you may mean they see you as some form of higher God whose spoken word cannot be challenged for fear of the ultimate sacrifice – OH all powerful one – our lives sit in the power of your godly and discerning hands.

The other more likely possibility is that no-one gives a flying fig about ‘istory or what happened to the illegitimate son of their father’s father or if he won a dart match with a cup in the pre webbie days of Dickie bow tie Davis

Now cast your mind forward from the smoking trade centre and the 3000 unfortunates to the year of 2006 and that unfortunate Derby time where we lost one of our own. Reflect on that loss and then leaf forward six months and ask yourself – “An I a punk or did I just MAKE MY DAY ?’

The sheep’s friend mentioned HAPPY JACK and that name has lingered long in the little greys and settled in the realms of definite possibility, as if wanting to confirm itself in the history book of Horse and the annals of Jimmy Pokery – space time retro travel.

WHAT DE YER KNOW ? 🧐
