I don’t mind it as a one off day although I can take or leave the team aspect.

The one thing I used to like about the day was seeing some unfamiliar jockeys from abroad. It gave the meeting a different feeling.

It looks like that is missing this year, presumably because of Covid travel restrictions. Which means it does look a bit like a normal meeting today.

Can I have a tenner on the women at 33’s with Trueodds?

Get that biro working Robbo! There are hours left to get the job done before the first, are you a man or a mouse?

    Women:

NICOLA CURRIE – 3/51 at Ascot
HAYLEY TURNER – 17/246 at Ascot
MLLE MICHAEle MICHEL – 0/0 at Ascot

20 wins from combined experience of 297 course rides.

What a ragtag team representing the women today. Hayley Turner used to be ok about 10 years ago, I thought Nicola Currie was the special at my local Indian and who the hell that M thing is I have no idea. Even before the horses have been assessed the women team looks severely handicapped on the jockey front. No wonder the top women jockeys like Hollie Doyle have shunned being a part of this shambolic team.

    Compare this to team GB.

    FALLON – 3/42
    DOYLE – 51/422
    KIRBY – 39/411

Fallon is the best jockey on the card and he is backed up by group winning jockeys with tons of course experience.

GB 93 wins from 875 rides.
WOMEN 20 wins from 297 rides.

The class and experience alone on the jockey side of things gives GB a huge advantage today. The bad news is the team GB not only have the stars in the saddle but they also have the firepower to sit on.

GB should be winning this event comfortably today.

When it comes to The Shergar Cup I leave nothing to chance and have studied in depth. GB good things.

Interesting stats about the jockeys – what about the calibre, recent form, and ability to run to form on the ground of the actual horses they are riding today?

There are stats and stats – and some of the “stats” I’ve heard the last 24 hours don’t mean “Jack.”

Overall historical team record, for example.

    Different year!

    Different team personnel!!

    Different horses!!!

Ian the Shergar Cup is one day only, one race card of 6 races. To make a mistake on the best day of racing all year is a tragedy. Get today wrong and you must wait 365 days to right your wrongs. The team leave absolutely nothing to chance in The Shergar Cup.

All horses of all teams have been assessed in full.

The jockey stat is the key to this team GB bet being so fantastic because the course experience and the class of my jockeys will not only ensure the horses who should win do win but they will also pick up extra points purely on course experience and know how turning a horse who should be unplaced into a place and racking up points on the board as opposed to somebody like Micheal Michel Mikel who’s lack of course experience will turn a winnner into an unplaced horse.

To not be on board Team GB today is a disgrace.

Although this fantastic day is about The Teams there is also one outstanding individual bet on the card:

    13:25 Ascot – EW – CLEONTE 14/1 (4 places skybet).

No trainer takes the Shergar Cup as seriously as Andrew Balding and all of his runners should go well today.

Balding has won the first race 3 times, the second race twice, the third race twice, the fourth race once, the 5th race once and the sixth race twice.

11 stunning Shergar Cup victories coming for Balding, the Shergar master has won every single race on the card. No trainer even gets close to this man on the Super Shergar Cup day. Boy he targets this meeting like a king.

CLEONTE hasn’t looked at his best in his last 3 runs in high quality races but he has been trained with this race in mind. He has now dropped back down to 87 which was his last winning handicap mark.
He has won twice at Ascot including this race in 2018 from a mark of 92. Loves this time of year and won in August 2016 and 2018. Ground looks perfect for him and has been layed out for this race. Outstanding chance for King Balding to enhance his already great record of The Greatest Shergar Cup trainer in history.

14/1 looks a gift. Captain Kirby will lead his team by example and bring him home in first place and set up a day to remember forever the hero’s of Team GB🇬🇧

Balding is so masterful at this meeting that we must even respect his runners for the enemy teams today. All have very strong chances. Done a Balding lucky 15 with his 4 runners as a fun side bet.

    CLEONTE 14/1 (GB)
    GROUP ONE POWER 9/2 (IRELAND)
    STONE IF DESTINY 6/1 (ROW)
    STAR CALIPER 9/2 (GB)

All 4 of the Balding runners will score Shergar Cup Points and they may even all win. Team GB have 2 of the Balding runners which tips the scales in TEAM GBs favour even more.

    TEAM GB 2021 edition

The strongest Shergar Cup team in history. This could be barbaric on the scoreboard today. Forget about close team GB are away and gone.

Fair play, Captain, you have piqued my interest in all this a bit.

Not as much as Uber cute Clare Grogan did in Gregory’s Girl back in the day, but thanks to you I will be watching the event with added interest thanks to your manic fervour!

    Cheers!

    30th July 1966-7th August 2021

A period of 55 years and 8 days separates Great Britain’s two finest sporting achievements. England winning the World Cup and Team GB winning the 2021 Shergar Cup in splendid style.

Today the nation comes together once again and is united in sporting glory as the all star team of Fallon-Doyle and Captain Kirby mastermind a stunning victory at Ascot.

We will fight them over 5f
We will fight them over 2 miles
We will fight them over 1 mile 4f
We will fight them over 1 mile
We will fight them over 1 mile 4f
We will fight them over 6f
For we are Team GB and our victory shall not be denied no matter what they throw at us along the way

    Winner: 15 points
    Second: 10 points
    Third: 7 points
    Fourth: 5 points
    Fifth: 3 points.

Tensions are rising as the first race on this historic day approaches.

Team GB have 3 solid chances here and anything less than being on top of the scoreboard after the race will go down as hugely disappointing.
The team are looking to score with all 3 horses here. Stone of Destiny for Balding is dangerous but if Team GB can get 1st place then The Shergar Cup is as good as wrapped up after race 1. The team are looking to score an absolute minimum of 18 points in the opener but if things fall right then we could be looking at a game set and match total of 32 points.

It’s all about the points and that’s why we are standing with Team GB.

Unbelievably, for the first time EVER, and all thanks to the good Captain, I’m keeping an eye on the scores!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, one race in, I make it….

    Rest Of The World 18
    Great Britain 17
    Ireland 4
    Ladies 0!

    (Winner: 15 points
    Second: 10 points
    Third: 7 points
    Fourth: 5 points
    Fifth: 3 points.)

You were wrong giving Ireland 4 and not 5 however it has been noted you corrected this error.

Great start for team GB. 17 point lead over the favourites Team Woman, 12 point lead over Ireland. Fantastic position, we are not concerned over ROW having a 1 point lead. Team GB are coming in hard on race 2. The team are confident of the winner here and we are fully expecting to be in 1st place overall after race 2 and saying Catch us if you can to the rest.

Fallon needs to up his game but Doyle and Captain Kirby rode with honour for the island of Great Britain.
