One of the Great 5f sprints of the year, the Group 1 Kings stand has become a bit of a stamping ground for foreign challengers of late and
hopefully we shall get a multi-national turnout this year! Last years winner
Equiano will have been laid out by his new trainer for a repeat victory and
is currently available at 10/1.The Hungarian flying machine Overdose is
the 3/1fav and a worthy favourite too! Some of his times are incredible!
I have backed FLEETING SPIRIT at 10/1, i think she too will be laid out
for this race, having been 15/8fav for last years as a 3yo. What impresses
me with this filly is her incredible speed, not only can she travel sweetly,
she can quicken off a good gallop! Tax Free is a horse i have followed
religiously,he is a good bench mark, but i can remember at Haydock last
year Fleeting spirit running past him as if he was stood still, she was
awesome and if she has physically developed over the winter i believe
she could give Overdose a reason to have one!!April 28, 2009 at 23:20 #224179It’s been a Group 1 for the past few years (one of the criteria for it being in the Global Sprint Challenge)

Cheers IRISH, edited accordingly!
April 28, 2009 at 23:42 #224187I’m all over Overdose here and make this my bet of the year (so will be betting on it £5 a week accordingly).
Shouldve done that with Mastercraftsman like I planned to when he was 12/1!
It’s all Overdose for me. The speed figures dont lie
April 29, 2009 at 18:15 #224326What speed figures?
I am aware of the times he has won races in, but I haven’t come across any speed ratings. Has anyone worked any out?

This overdose isn’t a horse it’s the Flash reincarnated. I have a lot of videos of this horse and the first thing I noticed was the length of his body. He’s looks about a foot longer than the normal horse to me.
Without any effort at all he just pulls away from his oposition and they’ve only gone a furlong. In one race he was going so well everything else was flat to the boards from 2 furlongs out and couldn’t get near him and his jockey was barely moving.
I will take a brave man to oppose him and I can’t see the 3’s lasting long.
I’m with HWTH and think this could be one of the best bets of the season.
I have been having trouble getting 3’s and had to settle for half at 5/2 and I think that was grudged so I don’t expect that 3/1 to be around for long.
Just hope the beggar runs now
April 29, 2009 at 21:23 #224366Expect those 3’s to shorten to around 11/8 after the Haydock meeting, Fist

I’m getting stuck in on this beast tomorrow.
I’m not letting this one get away like Patkai!

I found the speed figures Gerald they’re down below:-
ZZZZZZooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!!!!!
April 29, 2009 at 22:08 #224375The stalls are smaller in Britain than elsewhere – so he might bang his head and get a nosebleed.
I haven’t got anything against the horse – I just find it hard to believe that he will win more impressively than the Aussie winners we’ve had lately, and they were all impressive.
April 29, 2009 at 22:48 #224384To be fair some of the Aussie horses according to a good friend of mine were not even the top sprinters when they came over here to plunder these big prizes.
Cant wait to see Overdose in the flesh in the same way that i could not wait to see Denman in the flesh last month.
If he is as good as all the hype is then this is a good year for the flat to leap up and get some attention.
May 1, 2009 at 18:17 #224831Have always had a liking for spin cycle, who is due to run today on conditions that suit. Have taken a bit of the 100-1 e/w about him for this race, just in case he goes well today.
May 1, 2009 at 18:45 #224835LOL @ Fists’ speed ratings
I’ve done a mugs double with Corals – Overdose for the Kings Stand with Yeats for the Gold Cup – 19/1

Was worried there as he was drifting like a barge for today’s race. Interesting to see if he is cut for Ascot. Has beaten the older rivals (including a prix du l’abbaye winner) @ level weights.
Edit: Just watched the replay on RUK, he done that pretty nicely in all fairness, considering he was reportedly getting worked up beforehand, and looked pretty green in the race. Quickened very impressively at the death there, suspected he may be group class before today, now am quite confident he is.

BUL, Spin cycle will need an L.G washing machine with 2000 rpm strapped to its back, to stand any chance in this!

I disagree TATK, I think he’d have less chance with a washing machine strapped to his back. The sheer weight of it, together with it’s awkward, non aerodynamic shape would almost certainly slow him down, and in 5f sprints thats the last thing you need. Plus where would the jockey sit?
A 3yo who loves 5f on gd-fm and comes out and wins like that on 2-3 seasonal reappearance could be just about anything. I liked the way he quickened in the Norfolk last year, and he quickened very impressively there today beating some decent yardsticks with a performance that is easily listed class, and looks to have plenty of improvement so should work out better. But I’m very happy with that and even think the 50-1 that Coral’s are holding on to looks a very decent price.
At 100-1 or (50-1 now
) I’d give him more of a chance than fleeting spirit at 10-1, who was grossly over-rated last year for her temple stakes win, and has subequently been tried and failed at the top level, because at least he’s likely to improve, where FS looks fairly exposed in the top grade.May 1, 2009 at 23:49 #224912Fair comment Bul, I"m pleased to see a bit of Ante-post movement, good luck!
May 2, 2009 at 22:23 #225172Amour Propre promoted to 2nd fav after todays race.
I’m having another go on Spin Cycle, 1py e/w 1pt win @ 66-1 with Willy Hills. Watched yesterdays race again and thats a steal IMO, incidentally the same race last year threw up a july cup winner but think Spin Cycle looks through and through a 5f type.
Amour Propre proving today, and Spin Cycle yesterday that the 3yos can hold their own amongst the older opposition. Although Spin Cycle did it at level weights, so why the difference in price Im not quite sure.
