Lets not get too excited about Amour Propre. Good performance and did well last time out at Ascot BUT AP was receiving 6lbs all round today

Not getting excited about AP HWTH but like I say, its worth watching the performances of each of the two 3yos on RUK site and asking why AP IS 7-1 for the Kings Stand after his performance (getting 6lbs) and Spin Cycle is 66-1 for his win at level weights?
IMO on what is likely to turn up on the day for the Kings Stand Spin Cycle should be shorter than 20s, and IMO all the Overdose hype means that horses like Spin Cycle are grossly overpriced.
Watch how he quickens yesterday against the opposition he’s quickening past, remembering that the race is over 5f and the ground is fast and tell me 66-1 isnt a ridiculous price on him. The horse has bags of raw ability there.
Win lose or draw a season doesnt usually throw up many 66-1 shots as good as him IMO.
May 3, 2009 at 00:06 #225195Apologies Bulwark, wasnt directly aimed at you just a statement

I’m a big fan of Cheveton so for Spin Cycle to beat him so easily in the final furlong did catch my eye. Where SC will be good enough come King Stands Day I dont know. I’m still firmly an Overdose man
May 3, 2009 at 00:55 #225210I too am a big fan of overdose the horse, but just not all the hype surrounding him. So much can go wrong in a 5f sprint on fast ground, and so many of these horses that are overhyped get beaten at ascot that I couldnt seriously consider backing something at 3-1 with a month and a half to go before the race, especially on what is effectively his first try in this grade.
The method Ive always found works best is to try and find an e/w shot to take them on with. If you hit 3rd place or better your laughing.
For me, Ascot Banker horses in competetive races like Overdose (and names like Bankable, Fleeting Spirit etc) represent a huge potential loss for the bookies and something always seems to go wrong for them on the day. I cant escape the feeling that Overdose will be turned over with half of europe on.

Yes, but the Weight For Age allowance for 3yos from older horses is 9lbs at this time of year at this distance. This will go down and disappear over the next few months, but the 3yos will supposedly improve in ability in that time to counteract it. Amour Propre was one of only three horses in the field carrying a penalty, and he won’t have that penalty in G1s.
May 6, 2009 at 05:42 #225916I’m really pleased that it has been announced last evening that Fleeting Spirit will head straight to the King’s Stand. That ought to make her favourite in my book.

LOL @ Fists’ speed ratings
I’ve done a mugs double with Corals – Overdose for the Kings Stand with Yeats for the Gold Cup – 19/1
Good news is you’re not the only mug David as I backed the same double. To make it worse I backed it up with 2 singles so I am hoping being stupid pays off

Anyone heard anything regarding Overdose and a recent setback?
May 6, 2009 at 18:10 #225988Any rumour has probably emanated from this –
Overdose will be coming straight over for the Temple Stakes, rather than spending a couple of weeks in Pulborough first. The reason given was that if Overdose was away from home, he would be expecting to race within a couple of days, and if he didn’t, he would be disappointed.
May 6, 2009 at 18:28 #225991Sorry, Fist, only just read it, as I bought the Racing Post on the way home from work, instead of to work.
Overdose has an inflammation of the left forefoot.
Same thing happened before his last race.
A suggestion that his shoes were on too tight.

I better go see a doctor. I bought a new pair of jeans and they are very tight

No big deal by the sound of it. The way my friend was talking one of his legs had fallen off
May 7, 2009 at 21:51 #226186Overdose should be well enough to run in The Golden Jubilee, where J J The Jet Plane should test him.

That’s rediculous. They can’t find a horse to beat him so now he has to race a jet plane
May 7, 2009 at 23:18 #226205J J The Jet Plane….trained by Mike De Kock…….won The Al Quoz Sprint at Nad Al Sheba…………has to be an E/W shot at least.
May 7, 2009 at 23:33 #226208Going back to OD, surely any inflammation is worrying, and it must be of concern that he was standing on only 3 legs, I’m surprised his price didn’t take a walk in the market for the Temple Stakes.

I’d suspect it’s probably a normal problem for him Gerald. Theres been talk bouncing around that he’s had this problem before and then came out and won by 6 or 7 lengths 2 weeks later.
May 7, 2009 at 23:58 #226218Kingsgate Native will have a great chance for the kings stand if stoute has him ready in time for the race
May 8, 2009 at 00:15 #226223I knew he had been firing blanks, but I hadn’t realised he had come back with a different trainer. Is Stoute up to the job?
I remember Ajdal for the July Cup, but I’m finding it hard to recall any other sprinters off the top of my head (apart from 2yos).Just for a laugh, I’ll have to look at the gallops reports, to see who he has been working with.
