CS….I hope you and I might have the start of a good cheltenham satchel with Magnanimity. As I posted before, I chanced the ante post market with him at 16-1 with Victor Chandler. For some reason Hills then pushed him out to 25-1 and I took some of that too.
As long as he gets to the starting line without mishap, I think he has a great chance of a place…and who knows, might just be his day.
I’ve also noticed that there has been money all day for him on the exchanges for the Gold Cup. Maybe a temporary blip, but interesting none the less.
Good luck to us both.(and Mrs CS)
February 8, 2012 at 22:26 #390410I think the last Gold Cup trial to be as meaningless as this was in 2006, when the Argento was moved to Wincanton due to Cheltenham being off. It had 5 runners and the 11yo outsider of the quintuplet See You Sometime won, the only one of the 5 not to have a Gold Cup entry.
February 8, 2012 at 23:56 #390423Very unlucky Fran, that’s a shocker, hope that’s the end of your bad luck.
Hadn’t really looked at this race seriously, but would probably have went for Quito had he ran. More inclined to think Synchronised may go now, and you would think it should be between him and Quel Esprit, but I’ll have a couple of quid e/w on Follow The Plan, who can show some ability now and then. 25’s probably isn’t a great price on the face of it, but I’ll include him in a few multi’s, as well as a modest shot at him on his own.
I’m another who’s got a soft spot for Magnanimity, but I’ve got him 90’s to 230’s for The Gold Cup, so I won’t be jinxing that bet. I hope he runs well enough to book his ticket for Cheltenham.
February 9, 2012 at 11:14 #390466Synchronised out now! They’re dropping like flies at the minute – the race is simply a no bet for me now.
February 9, 2012 at 12:58 #390488It’s losing it’s appeal as a Cheltenham Gold Cup trial but my ew 1-2-3 Magnanimity (10/1, dithered and missed the 20/1)is looking good right now.
(My first Ante Post bet since I backed Garde Champetre for The National a few years ago)
February 9, 2012 at 20:12 #390541With the various drop outs, now not looking like the most exciting race on the card. Can’t get away from thinking that Follow The Plan currently looks over priced. Oliver McKeirnan is currently having a few winners, including today, after a long spell on the cold list.

The Deloitte always looked a better race anyway.
February 11, 2012 at 21:00 #390870I think Gigginstown missed a trick here; it seems to be the weakest Hennessey ever and Bog Warrior, Last Instalment would have been very strong contenders. Maybe Quel Esprit will prove me wrong.
February 12, 2012 at 02:38 #390898I think Quel Espirit is hugely overrated, and it would have taken a spectacular performance to change my opinion anyway.
Seeing the field now, there’s nothing he can do to make me bat an eyelid.
He could have Boston’s Angel by 10 lengths and I’d still expect the form to be reversed in the Gold Cup(if they’re both there!)
February 12, 2012 at 13:22 #390940I think China Rock should wins this. The way last seasons novices finished in a bunch in the RSA probably tells us this probably isn’t a vintage crop of second season chasers imo. Possibly with the exception of Quel Esprit who could turn out to be anything.
February 12, 2012 at 15:55 #390968A brave front running performance from QUEL ESPRIT, jumped and stayed very well. Could be a decent ew for the Gold Cup. MAGNANIMITY travelled well but made a bad mistake 4 out which put paid to his chances. Not Gold Cup material in my eyes. The rest aren’t good enough I don’t think, ROBERTO GOLDBACK the only one to put up a fight.
February 12, 2012 at 16:12 #390970Decent win for Quel Esprit, but my reservations about the quality were confrimed; way below Gold Cup standard. GC increasingly looks like a 2-horse race.
February 12, 2012 at 16:16 #390972What dreadful, dreadful horses.
February 12, 2012 at 16:44 #390978Just increasing my long run interest.
Walk over.

I wouldn’t mind owning the ‘dreadful’ Quel Esprit!
February 12, 2012 at 17:46 #390986Quel Esprit winning is fantastic news for Long Run backers. Midnight Chase and the Irish chaser both front-runners and will be taking on Kauto Star for the lead.
February 12, 2012 at 18:24 #390989I was glad to see another clear round from Quel Esprit. I think he is like Kauto Star in that he can jump brilliantly yet make a shocking mistake out of nowhere, lack of concentration perhaps.
I don’t imagine Quel Esprit necessarily inconveniencing Kauto Star in the Gold Cup. Both horses probably need space to help their jumping and concentration. Quel Esprit could race wide rather than prominent.
