What dreadful, dreadful horses.
That’s a bit harsh Zarkava, and not accurate. Granted some of them didn’t run a good race, but they are not dreadful. They ran with the best at Cheltenham and didn’t disgrace themselves there.
February 12, 2012 at 23:21 #391018TT&T, how many races have the first 5 from the RSA won? What are their current official ratings? Roberto Goldback finished 4th in the awful Lexus. He finished 2nd today. Ruby said Quel Esprit is a stone below the level that Kauto and Long Run are at? What am I supposed to say, ‘he has a live each-way chance’?
He’s finished 4F6F at Cheltenham, being beaten 13L and 38L.
He’s 20/1. If you back him each-way, realistically the best you’re hoping for is 3rd. That means 5/1 for a place and 2/1 overall for your money.
If you want to be a happy optimistic person and back him at 2/1 to place, be my guest. And do you really want to spend the entire race sweating on whether your each-way fancy finishes 3rd? Last year I had a £25 double on Sizing Europe at 9/1 and Mourad to win the World Hurdle without Grands Crus and Big Buck’s. Spent the entire race watching Mourad and didn’t glance at Big Buck’s or Grands Crus once. Yes I won a grand. Would I have rather enjoyed the race and not have such a stupid bet instead? Hell yes.
I’d rather keep my feet grounded, be pessimistic and save my money.
My viewpoint (in my experience and opinion) will save you money and win you more bets.
February 16, 2012 at 21:09 #391733Zarkava, in the grand scheme of things they are not dreadful horses. But I don’t bet so we are not looking at things from the same base. I wouldn’t say that I wore rose tinted glasses anyway.
