Good ground is not a “welfare issue”, FF.
That said, there are some horses that either have a markedly rounded action or those who have previously had leg injuries where trainers should not run them on truly good ground. However, my issue is just that the official going is simply wrong and misleading to trainers, jockeys and punters.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2022 at 16:56 #1587322Constitution Hill has been given a provisional Timeform rating of 177p.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2022 at 17:21 #1587335I have a very strong feeling that Constitution Hill is going to go chasing next year. He FEELS like a chaser.
2023 Arkle/King George combo?
BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do
March 15, 2022 at 17:29 #1587341Five id say he,d more likely go hurdling and Jonbon fencing , Jonbon looked great today but he didn’t have the winners gears , they way he travels though if he can jump …Arkle looks a great idea
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 15, 2022 at 17:30 #1587342Ginger, as a comparison, what were Appreciate it and Bob O’s ratings last year? Thought they were impressive but haven’t seen a performance like C Hill since Golden Cygnet
March 15, 2022 at 17:53 #1587347Not a good day for Mullins novices in either code
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 15, 2022 at 19:38 #1587371Except the one that won obvs.
March 15, 2022 at 19:49 #1587376Ginge- that’s almost unparalleled.
I’d certainly back him against Honeysuckle were they to meet at Punchestown next month.
He travels, jumps and quickens on demand. Seems like the one to dethrone the current Queen to me.
March 15, 2022 at 20:12 #1587381GG I think he,d have expected at least 1 more …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 15, 2022 at 20:25 #1587388Looks like we’ve seen a good one…
March 15, 2022 at 20:34 #1587391Constitution Hill covered the 2 mile 87 yard trip 5.78 seconds faster in the Supreme than Honeysuckle did in the Champion. Same course, same ground conditions. By my reckoning, this equates to about 35 lengths! That’s 35 lengths!! And he did it hardly breaking sweat.
This means had CH run in the Champion today, he’d have almost certainly won it. I find this very interesting and can’t wait for Punchestown.
March 15, 2022 at 21:17 #1587395What price is CH for next year’s champion ?
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 15, 2022 at 21:25 #1587397I heard on WH radio shortly after the Champion that CH is 2/1 and H’suckle is 3/1 for next year’s Champion Hurdle.
March 15, 2022 at 21:30 #1587398The Supreme winner rating may end up higher than it ought to be in some quarters. Jonbon was used as a ‘spoiler’ against DD by the look of it so that DD didn’t slow it down and get his way up front. This view was mentioned by one of the Racing TV presenters as well. That would’ve, and did, compromise Jonbon’s finishing effort. And DD ended up on the deck. It all went very smoothly for CH in the race and it was visually dominant. Honeysuckle ‘had no friends’ in her race and she got the job done. At this stage of their careers, I would side with ‘the Queen’ in receipt of the allowance if they met, though I don’t think they will race each other this season. Next year, one would expect CH to improve out of novice company and if connections decide to stay over hurdles, its a clash to look forward to.
March 15, 2022 at 21:39 #1587400On page 12 of this thread, I did ask that, if Jonbon and Constitution Hill contested in the Champion Hurdle, could they win or even get placed?
This was because I felt at the time that, since the opposition didn’t appear that strong, maybe these two could’ve made for a sterner test.
In hindsight, I think Constitution Hill would’ve succeeded.March 15, 2022 at 21:58 #1587403Yes, I agree with that thought.
March 15, 2022 at 22:34 #1587409Enough to celebrate a stunning performance; so much can go wrong, this time last year Envoi Allen was the potential superstar.
