Ratings – how good a horse is / was are nothing to do with what race/s a horse wins, GM. Is all about who a horse beats (as long as that horse ran to form)… and by how far.

“I’ll whisper it quietly… It is possible we witnessed the beginnings of Hurdling’s Frankel / Arkle yesterday.”

I was thinking the same thing this morning Ginger. Frankel once opened Royal Ascot with a stunning performance in the Queen Anne and we witnessed a stunning performance to open the meeting yesterday as well.

I have had the moaning accusation thrown at me a few times but anyone trying to knock that performance yesterday needs to watch the race again. He was absolutely brilliant.

No one is saying he is as good as Frankel. What they are saying is that within the sphere of what he does, the performance was as superior to the opposition as Frankel’s was within his sphere.

What am saying is Frankel is pretty much universally considered the best ever Flat horse.
Arkle is thought to be the best ever chaser.

Constitution Hill may or may not yet be the best ever hurdler, but on Timeform ratings (and I agree) he’s put up the best ever performance by a novice hurdler and (rated with a “p”) likely to improve on that 177.

On Timeform ratings only needs to make 6 lbs improvement to be the best hurdler we’ve ever seen.
ie To be to hurdling what Frankel is to Flat Racing and Arkle is to Chasing only needs to make 6 lbs progress from yesterday – which is very doable.

Wonder why Nicky didn’t enter him for the Champion; presumably had been working with Epatante, so he must have had some idea of the relative merits.

Ridiculous from timeform regarding that figure, truely shocking lol

He was exceptional yesterday, but giving him that figure, LOL

    Befair,
I heard A P McCoy on ITV just before the race started say (if I remember right)… Epatante had worked with Constitution Hill and – at the time – they were disappointed with Epatante, but the Supreme result put a totally different light on the work and therefore (he thought) she had a good chance of beating all bar Honeysuckle home.

    Care to explain why, ham?

Knockers often say these things but rarely back it up with reason.

C Hill should go for the Arkle next year, to avoid Facile Vega (Willie might target the Champion Hurdle)

Constitution Hill will destroy anything Willie has to throw at him and believe me Willie knows it. Just watch the wave of horses Willie sends novice chasing next season to avoid him.
Facile Vega will likely win the Supreme next season and then go novice chasing also.

Constitution Hill, if remaining sound is going to be hurdle King for the next 3 to 4 years.

You have to exercise a degree of caution until a horse has ‘done it’ in open company.

However, Constitution Hill certainly put on a breathtaking performance yesterday and deserves his lofty rating having broken the track record. Personally can’t see how or why that would be questioned. He’s now proven on good ground as well as heavy and has barely turned a hair in the process. Hugely exciting is an understatement.

Ginge, i dont need to back it up, until he does it in open grade 1 company, its a farce, as proven, Year on year, the ground was faster yesterday than typical,

He put up an excellent performance, but to put him in thag bracket is just absolutely shocking.

What did appreciate it get last year aftwr his supreme?
