In any case the guy is a professional, he knows a lot more about it than I do, as he’s hired by the racing post to work as a pundit.
What do I know if the horse is going to the supreme or the neptune? If it was mine I’d aim it at the Neptune, but what do i know? I’m just a poor forumite.

February 15, 2017 at 17:26 #1287533Big fan of Charli Parcs Kempton performance but 3 things do concern me re the Supreme.
1. Firstly he is a 4yo after all and there is specific provision for this age group at the festival. Despite DdS as Triumph favourite it still takes a rare step to send a juvenile here (Supreme).
2. The Kempton win visually very much reminded me of Irving’s win in the Dovecot a couple of years ago, he subsequently proved to be very much a flat track horse. That is not to say CP is but the runs style was similar.
3. Thirdly and linked to Pt. 2, the first thing that came out of Henderson’s mouth after Kempton at Christmas was how he (CP) needed to run at Cheltenham (on trial’s day) to see how he ‘handled’ the track. He subsequently defected at Cheltenham, at short notice, but the comments show it was in the trainers mind. His planned run in the Adonis won’t tell us much we don’t already know on CP stamina or track requirements. Two types of horses win the Supreme…strong stayers at the trip (Noland, Brave Inca, Al Ferof, Champagne Fever etc.) and absolute superstars (Vatour, Douvan, Altior).
Charlie Parcs will have to be the latter to win, I think.February 15, 2017 at 17:47 #1287535Two types of horses win the Supreme…strong stayers at the trip (Noland, Brave Inca, Al Ferof, Champagne Fever etc.) and absolute superstars (Vatour, Douvan, Altior).
Charlie Parcs will have to be the latter to win, I think.Nicky Henderson already rates CP higher than Buvair Dair and he’s not sure if he he is good as Altior. He is 8/1 on the Betfair sportsbook

Charlie Parcs will have to be the latter to win, I think. And Vatour ran very well in a king george
I do think that this is the reason why Altoir aside Henderson doesn’t have a great record in the supreme
his horses tend to be best suited by flat tracks
You need a horse that’s going to stay and going to battle. funnily enough Melon strikes me as a horse who while not be a value price now, he has everything for the race, he’s well made, he has a cruising speed and I just get the feeling he’ll outstay them up the hill
February 16, 2017 at 18:07 #1287618I also really do like Charli Parcs Kempton performance. Although it wasn’t high-class race, he beat very easily by 8 length quite decent horse Master Blueyes giving him 5lb. Master Blueyes subsequently came 2nd to another interesting Henderson’s horse Divin Bere, who is entered in Triumph Hurdle. I am only racing enthusiast, not an expert, but I think from the way Charli Parcs was travelling at Kepmton (jumped well, had the race in his control 3 out, showed plenty of speed, had a gears, finished very strongly) that he might handle Cheltenham hill, it’s just my guess. Time of that race was good, Charli Parcs (11-3) won at 3m 47.95; day earlier Yanworth (11-7) won the race clicking 3m 44.9; on both days ground was pretty similar – good, good to soft in places. Taking into account that Charli Parcs had a bit of petrol in his tank, I can say that his performance was excellent for a 4-y-o horse on his only second start over hurdles. Definitely he much improved from his first start at France, Poker Play who was 1 length behind Charli Parc was disappointing at Kempton – well beaten by Fidux, which subsequently run average race in Scottish Triumph Hurdle Trial at Musselburgh. It hard to judge 4yo horse having seen his only 1 start at flat track, there is lot of things we don’t know: how consistent he is? (some horses have promising starts and then disappoint for some reasons), how much he finds for pressure, stamina?will he handle other that flat tracks?will he progress? We will know just a bit more after Adonis hurdle. Not much time between Adonis and Cheltenham festival though, I won’t be surprised if Charli will get parked at Aintree bypassing Cheltenham…
February 17, 2017 at 08:38 #1287690Backed Bunk Off Early and Ballyandy both 25s and 33s NRNB for Supreme last weekend. Makes the anticipation that much sweeter!

Not sure if Bunk Off Early turns up. Maybe kept back for aintree and punchestown. Great price tho if he makes it. Ballyandy wins nothing
February 17, 2017 at 17:18 #1287715Glaring’s not been declared for tomorrow. I’m guessing once again due to the ground as he holds another entry at Huntingdon on Tuesday.
Some potentially great news about Consul De Thaix!
From Nicky’s blog;
Could CONSUL DE THAIX go for the Coral Cup?
He’ll be entered in it, but also the two Novice races and the County. It was frustrating he was forced to miss Newbury last week but he’s fine now and will work tomorrow. He won’t run before Cheltenham.February 18, 2017 at 22:47 #1287986Impressed enough with Beyond Conceit to have a little each-way dabble. Took the bigger price rather than NRNB because I think this race will give him a much better opportunity to settle.
It would be unusual for an eight-year-old to hit the target but it has been a pretty unusual year. Who knows he might be fighting it out with Moon Racer. That would be a bit of a kick in the teeth for the younger generation.

Nothing standing out in this race whatsoever, you could be right stilvi with the likes of beyond conceit

There is a stand out horse, he’s been nailed on for this race for 12 months. He’s a pure 2 miler, who has come up the hill to win at the festival already. His prep is not ideal but he is simply a superior, more developed, proven class animal than the pretenders coming and going on this thread. Step up Moon Racer.

I’m pretty sure Moon Racer will run in the Champion Hurdle
February 19, 2017 at 15:12 #1288073Furthermore; if Sutton Place is rated in the mid to high 150’s (Let’s just say 155 to be conservative) then Broken Soul mustn’t be far away from that mark. If that’s the case then Melon has to be at the very least half a stone better than Neon Wolf and Finians Oscar, who are both around the 155 mark based on their form.
I also realise that 155 is a great mark for the Supreme; think Vautour ran off 155 in his Supreme so I’m not knocking Neon Wolf or Finians Oscar; both are good enough to win a Supreme. I just get the feeling that Melon might be special.
This belter of a post deserves another read from all.
Miss Mardan 165 + King’s War 160, yeah?

Social media is a wonderful way of keeping racing enthusiasts connected but it can sometimes lead to Chinese Whispers that are wholly inaccurate. Consequently I would like to report that Moon Racer (pictured right) is still very much on course for the Cheltenham Festival. We may get a little run into him somewhere although at this stage he is likely to go straight to Cheltenham next month. The main objective remains the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. David Pipe.
Let’s hope what he says is true. My ante post book doesn’t want him in the CH!
I should of cashed out.
February 19, 2017 at 15:34 #1288085I still can’t see the Pipe’s diverting Moon Racer to run later in the day, it doesn’t make sense – although I said Thistlecrack wouldn’t run in the King George. This lad with take a lot of beating in the Supreme given the way he powerfully finishes his races. You always fear Mullins but Melon lacks the experience Champaign Fever, Vautour & Douvan brought into their Supreme’s and like Charli Parcs could easily pay for that and there’s no reason for Ballyandy to reverse form either.
