Think it’s quite clear the O’Learys have very little interest in owning top hurdlers which rules out champion effort. There end game with every purchase is a staying chaser. This means it will probably be JLT it RSA, history (don cossack) suggests maybe JLT but have a feeling they will want to see him over the extended trips as early as possible so RSA would be my guess
March 13, 2018 at 20:15 #1346294Samcro 10’s for next years Champion Hurdle (bet365, skybet)
if you fancy him for that race might be worth getting a head start as will be shorter after cruising around to victory tomorrow.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 13, 2018 at 21:17 #1346304I reckon I’ll try to get a price on him not just to win ANY race at next year’s festival but EVERY race!

I’m not at all convince he’ll go that route but worth a fiver at this stage imoGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 14, 2018 at 22:30 #1346582Let’s hope he stays healthy. Unbelievable talent. JLT 2019 winner.
March 17, 2018 at 05:30 #134725310/1 Arkle
8/1 CH
4/1 JLT
8/1 RSA8/1 RSA looks the best atm.
March 17, 2018 at 07:08 #13472588/1 RSA looks the best atm.
Thanks Dex, just helped myself to some of that.
March 17, 2018 at 14:57 #1347351The issue is it looks like Elliot has a few horses that have the potential to win the RSA (Cracking Smart, Blow by Blow) and Samcro is certainly versatile and would probably win the JLT so may opt so send the horse to the shorter of the 2 races with enough ammo to win the RSA with others.
March 17, 2018 at 18:03 #1347371Samcro’s Champion Hurdle price is too good to be true. ie Telling you the decision has already been made. If Champion Hurdle was the current target he’d be a third of that 10/1. Priced up as one who’ll only go the Champion Hurdle route if something goes wrong over fences (either on the racecourse or at home).
Suspect most likely is the JLT, but that’s already in the price. Has both speed and stamina so can do anything – Arkle and RSA very possible. Therefore imo which novice he’ll go for depends largely on what else Gigginstown have for other races… And he’s also 33/1 to win the Gold Cup!
Very definitely not one to bet ante-post yet, at least not until more from O’Leary and/or NRNB.
Value Is EverythingMarch 17, 2018 at 18:21 #1347375If he smashes them up in novice chases and is in rude health approaching the festival, there’ll be a reasonable chance he’ll go Gold Cup. Vautour decision and Sizing John late injury plus plenty other examples will make O’Leary think. Strike while the iron is hot – a highly appropriate proverb in racing.
March 18, 2018 at 12:18 #1347449As seen with Apple’s jade prior the festival, Gigginstown will run Samcro in the race he has the best chance of winning so it has to be one of the Novice Chases, the JLT or the RSA. I don’t think they will rush him out of Novice company.
Incidentally, Don Cossack and Don Poli both ran in the RSA. However, Samcro seems to have bags of pace so the JLT a distinct possibility particularly as has been mentioned they have other horses for the RSA.
March 18, 2018 at 13:00 #1347455Hills have priced him at 5-2 in the win any race market. Not sure whether to take that or take a punt in the RSA market where he’s 8-1. The 8-1 is quite tempting.
Blow by Blow could easily go for the four miler and Cracking Smart could easily stay over hurdles for the Stayers Hurdle. Damn, there are so many permeatations!
March 18, 2018 at 15:16 #1347475What’s the combined RSA and JLT price? In these scenarios I’ll usually gamble and chance that I guess correctly which race the horse is going for and just try to win my money back with smaller stakes on the alternative – with the intention of putting more on said alternative if down the line connections confirm that said alternative is indeed the target.
March 20, 2018 at 11:10 #1347622I would imagine he’ll go for either the Arkle or JLT- RSA would be unnecessary and as others have said, i am sure giggy will be able to throw something else at that. Obviously how he jumps will be key to the race he goes to.
Out of interest, has anyone access to what Faugheen was rated by timeform after his Neptune/Ballymore win?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 20, 2018 at 15:52 #1347656The most important person in this equation is Michael O’Leary. Hurdling is out as he wants staying chasers. Don Cossack and No More Heroes are good recent examples of O’Leary targeting the RSA with his best Novice Chaser, which Samcro is by some distance. He has done nothing to suggest 3m would be of any concern and 10/1 on the RSA is absolutely fine by me for a what the trainer and owner see as a Gold Cup horse.
