That Guardian journalist is going too far.
The West / NATO is not leaving Ukrainians to their deaths and there is a point to Ukrainians holding on. The West / NATO is doing all it can without declaring World War III.
If NATO were to declare a no-fly zone then NATO would be shooting down Russian planes… And to do that we’d also need to take out Russian ground to air missiles, some of which are long range – inside Russia. ie To enforce a no-fly zone not only would NATO need to attack Russian planes but would need to attack Russia – causing WWIII. However bad it looks on the TV now, obviously WWIII massively increases the devastation.
…As the journalist himself says: Prolonging the Ukraine / Russia war will result in more deaths and the odds are still stacked in Russia’s favour. However, it is not a foregone conclusion, just a chance of Ukraine winning, if Russia itself (or someone close to him) rebels against Putin… And even if the whole of Ukraine is taken, guerrilla warfare may well still be a threat to the invaders… And that could last many, many years, possibly a decade or more. Perhaps Putin will be dead by then. People addicted to steroids can die at any time.
Value Is EverythingMarch 6, 2022 at 23:50 #1586011What we must do is get sanctions at maximum.
Get these fecking oligarch’s money and belongings.
Take over Chelsea FC full stop and don’t let him sell.
Stop all oil and gas imports from Russia – even if it harms the West / Europe.
Do everything possible to stop money getting in to Russia.Value Is EverythingMarch 7, 2022 at 00:24 #1586022I think its maybe clutching at straws hoping Putin gets overthrown gloomy analysis of the chances of this in the times today
Today they invited citizens to leave through “corridors” in four cities and then shelled them
Where does this stop?
But he’s always been like this. The mugs who admired him as a clever little hard man happily ignored his use of chemical weapons, which he will almost certainly use in ukraine too
He’s not out of control. This is exactly who he is
As for a global war, just have to accept that its more and more likely now
How many here are recruiting age ?
Mind you there will be plenty of available skirt for the rest of us

An extremely unpleasant remark.

Lots of posts but not a hint of it I’ve noticed
March 7, 2022 at 02:45 #1586037Vile remark comment clivexx. Especially when pretty terrible things are going to happen to many Ukrainian women when the Russian soldiers take over their cities. I’m not going to report it because I would like to think that you’ll ask to have it removed.
March 7, 2022 at 07:22 #1586041No
It’s a JOKE
Obviously.
Couldn’t care less about others humour bypasses
The key to humour is laughing at oneself. That’s what it is If the left don’t get that (do they ever ) them it’s surprising given that most people laugh at them
A bit wasted here so a few days break I think
Ask the previous poster about Russian soldiers. Not me. I think that’s rather more to the point perhaps?
March 7, 2022 at 08:51 #1586044The key to engaging with others in life is knowing where the socially-acceptable line is.
That said, no one can offend people who are ignoring them.
Engage with someone who makes remarks like that and don’t be surprised if they carry on.
To respond to them is to implicitly condone what they write.

The key to enjoying life is avoiding those pompous self regarding types with zero sense of humour. It really does say something about the person that they thought I was serious. Jesus
But do continue to engage with those who have pointedly not have not even given a hint of condemnation or opposition to putins slaughter over numerous posts…
Waste of time.
March 7, 2022 at 09:25 #1586046Apart from humanity aide we can’t get involved, we can’t impose a no fly zone over Ukraine. I feel sorry for them and know Russia will prevail against Ukrainians because they’ll simply chuck numbers against them, like they did with the Nazis in the second world war. We can’t give Putin an excuse to use nuclear weapons because being ex KGB he will use them. Bombing a nuclear power plant shows he has no scruples.

I’ve just crossed the border on foot between Ukraine and Slovakia. Bro, I swear to you … I’ve never seen anything like it in terms of beautiful girls. The refugee queue … it’s like 200metres-long or more of just total goddesses … it’s some incredible **** … the queue outside Brazil’s best nightclub … doesn’t come close to the refugee queue here…Let me tell you, they’re easy because they’re poor…Just unbelievable, dude. As soon as this war’s over, I’m coming back
On the Comedians thread you neglected to mention that Bernard Manning is actually your favourite stand-up
March 7, 2022 at 10:15 #1586052Latest ruse from Putin is to allow refugees from Kyiv and Kharkiv ‘safe’ passage into Belarus and Russia respectively. What awaits them, concentration camps?
March 7, 2022 at 10:38 #1586054Good god drone. I had to pop back to acknowledge that one. Bloody hell
But no manning wasn’t a fav. Too predictable

“Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak is being investigated after wearing a national war symbol on his leotard as he stood next to a Ukrainian rival on the podium in Qatar on Saturday.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) said it had opened disciplinary proceedings against Kuliak for his “shocking behaviour” at the Apparatus World Cup in Doha.
Kuliak earned bronze in the parallel bars final and displayed a letter ‘Z’ taped to his chest as he stood next to gold medal winner Illia Kovtun of Ukraine.”
Sick!

I didn’t,
Might be showing my age here but remember a program on TV called THE COMEDIANS. Some great comedians on there.
To paraphrase Stan Boardman “It’s the Russians.”
Bernard Manning owned a club the “Embassy Club” down the road from me.
