There are lots of things to criticise on RTV, but the Saturday afternoon programme is always worth a watch.
It’s normally Tom Stanley and Dave Nevison in the studio, and they work really well together; there’s the added bonus that they don’t usually have Angus McNae and his Race iQ nonsense.
Always my go-to if I am not out at the races on a Saturday.

It’s reported that Angus McNae was carried out of the Racing TV studio yesterday on a stretcher, after the demise of Kopek De Bordes. The IQ Data for its race at Cheltenham broke every record under the sun, stride pattern, stride length, speed of jumping, fastest speed between hurdles, miles per hour. And this encompasses every horse that ran at the Cheltenham Festival. Angus thought he could be the best we’ve ever seen based on his IQ Data.
All week, they have been plugging their coverage of tonight’s Kentucky Derby.
What I want to know is, why do all RTV’s presenters insist on pronouncing “Derby” the American way? Just because the Yanks can’t pronounce the word properly, doesn’t mean that we have to start mispronouncing it too.
On their website, Todays schedule states Kentucky Derby 7.30 pm – Bob Baffert goes for his 4th Run for the Roses with American Pharoah.
It must be spreading… Jane Mangan has now taken to pronouncing not only “Derby” the American way, but also “Vase”.
Dear RTV – please use my £30 a month to give Jane pronunciation lessons. Thanks.
Even worse, Barry Orr the Betfair mouthpiece has called “The Derby” the American way for years. Why don’t the interviewers on RTV tell the heathen to get his act together?
I see RTV now has a 2yo by Cotai Glory in training with Roger Varian. Let’s hope he does better than “This is LIR SPECIALE!!”
Tom Marquand was the main guest on Persad on Sunday. What an impressive young man Tom is. Talks more sense than any of the buffoons at BHA ever come out with, as well as being a fine jockey.
