Yes, I received it. Another chance taken to tell them to stop going on about RaceIQ data. And to give low scores to the likes of Bull and Dunkley.
October 13, 2024 at 18:58 #1709799I forgot to ask why they keep asking that Channing character to be on “Luck On Sunday”.
October 13, 2024 at 19:10 #1709801Agreed. He don’t half waffle on.
October 13, 2024 at 19:27 #1709803Does he even know much about racing? I heard he is more of poker player and sports punter.
October 13, 2024 at 19:32 #1709804He usually makes some good points, but he isn’t one to use a hundred words when a thousand will do.
The time limit on Talking Points is utterly pointless when Channing’s on the panel.
October 17, 2024 at 20:25 #1710050I would seriously consider cancelling my subscription if the Irish racing went.
October 18, 2024 at 00:06 #1710066If you are in the UK nothing will change, it’s only in Ireland the channel will probably cease broadcasting at some stage.
October 18, 2024 at 10:00 #1710091If RTV does stop broadcasting in Ireland in 2026, I assume that means Irish racing will not be available to watch on any mainstream channel in Ireland apart from any races shown by RTE? The only way anyone in Ireland could watch their own races would be via streaming services, bookmaker websites etc.
If so, it would not be a very satisfactory state of affairs for a sport which is far more important culturally and economically in Ireland than it is in the UK.
The whole situation is ridiculous. It will not do anything to save a single person from gambling induced harm.
The modern Irish political class demonstrating its utter stupidity once again, even by the standards of global politicians. It would be good to see a lot of Independents stand at the upcoming General Election and to see plenty of the FF/FG/SF crowd voted out but I doubt it will happen.
October 18, 2024 at 16:29 #1710130With an Irish racing shoved in 5 minutes before The Champion Stakes tomorrow there may be a few at RTV who will be glad to see the back of it
October 18, 2024 at 16:39 #1710132Although the legislation is ridiculous, I do have to wonder about RTV’s response. Is it really so difficult to provide a separate service to Ireland?
It cites cost but it manages to employ dozens of presenters and pundits, none of whom are doing it for nothing. Perhaps if they lost the likes of McNae, Stafford, Dunkley, Dwyer and the Dixon brothers, then they might have a bit of spare cash to invest in a separate feed to Ireland.
There are plenty of others who could go as well. Why does RTV need at least two reporters at every meeting?
October 18, 2024 at 17:05 #1710134I’ve been watching this afternoon’s coverage and listening to Stafford is excruciating. She can barely string a sentence together in English, so as soon as any foreign names (horses or jockeys) come up, she’s screwed.
October 23, 2024 at 13:57 #1710620Great. We’ve got McNae going par times crazy today, both before and after each race.
I can picture CAS hurling his TV out of the window by mid-afternoon.
October 23, 2024 at 14:40 #1710622As Mr Davies used to always remind us, the mute button is our friend.
October 23, 2024 at 14:52 #1710626Angus “PAR” McNae – WALOFS
What evidence is there that this is of any use and that viewers want it?
Did you see those “PAR” charts of his for Champions Day? Need a 200 inch screen to make anything out, even if you wanted to.
October 23, 2024 at 15:23 #1710627McNae pretty much wet himself when the sectionals became readily available because he seemingly only takes horse’s seriously if they run a good time or sectional and he would always wax lyrical about it in relation to US Racing – with all this new ‘data’ he must be in his happy place 24/7…..unfortunately that means we have to see it……….although as others have said, the mute button is a great invention…..it is permanently on for me when McNae is hosting and I think most will find like me, he makes infintely more sense when on mute.
To me we are now not far off the stage of unneeded data overload and while I do like the looking at times/sectional data it alone doesn’t drive me but is just one part of information I use along with course/ground/jockey/trainer data available. You simply take on board what you want and ignore the stuff that seems too overly nerdy and shoved down your throat as being sooooo important.
With regards to the RTV being shown in Ireland, I would imagine that some kind of deal/workaround will be reached to where it will continue to be broadcast…..but what that will actually be….
October 23, 2024 at 15:33 #1710629“To me we are now not far off the stage of unneeded data overload”.
I agree. If other people want this sort of stuff, good for them. But does it really help punters back more winners? I have my doubts.
No doubt the “Road To Cheltenham” will be starting soon, with Hislop and Walsh excitedly telling us that the Race IQ data shows a horse which took a fence with it lost ground on its rivals..
October 24, 2024 at 11:51 #1710664As I have previously posted, they should limit all the Race IQ nonsense to The Verdict, so that those of us who aren’t interested can avoid it.
