This race rarely fails to produce a decent horse and could definitely see the winner jumping to the head of the Supreme Novices market.
Interesting to see both Cousin Vinny and Hurricane Fly entered. Hopefully we’ll be seeing one if not two of them out soon enough so.
Noel looks to have some nice young hurdlers as usual. Fisher Bridge and Donnas Palm have both caught the eye, and Corskeagh Royale would have most likely won at Galway the other day if he hadn’t fallen at the last.
American Trilogy is another interesting entry. Nicholls certainly seems intent on giving the trainers championship a good rattle.
November 7, 2008 at 01:31 #188456Zaarito is interesting and is a horse that i have got on my list to ‘watch carefully’ this season in regards to future races and chances.
Dont think he finds a lot off the bridle though so definately in the ‘watch’ catergory for the next couple of races.
November 7, 2008 at 02:12 #188462Zaarito had a real rough passage in the Cheltenham Bumper last year and I would have thought he’d have been a lot closer if he hadn’t been checked at the top of the hill.
He is definitely on the small side though Gaz and I’d be a bit concerned whether he’ll make the most natural hurdler. (Lack of size doesn’t seem to hinder the likes of Katchit though.)
On the plus side, Colm Murphy can certainly train a good one as he’s shown with Brave Inca, Big Zeb and Feathard Lady.

I agree with you there, he didnt have the best of runs in the race at Cheltenham in the Bumper, but i was more concerned with the way he seemed to drop off in the latter furlongs of the race as he seemed to travel quite well around Cheltenham.
November 12, 2008 at 18:09 #189388Willie reported this morning that the plan is to send Hurricane Fly here. Cousin Vinny, on the other hand, will run in a maiden hurdle somewhere but he is unlikely to be ready for the Royal Bond.
November 12, 2008 at 18:50 #189396Excellent news – been waiting on word about when Hurricane Fly would be seen back on the track.
November 12, 2008 at 18:52 #189397Thought we’d have seen him last weekend Grassy but it wasn’t to be
November 12, 2008 at 19:19 #189405Could be a right good horse this Hurricane Fly. Very classy on the flat in France. Beat Literato 2L in a listed race and only beaten 2 3/4L by Lawman in a Group 3. Bolted up in his maiden hurdle at Punchestown last May and ran well in both his visits to Auteil during the summer. Willie has said that he could well see him ending up in the Ballymore at Cheltenham.
Will be interesting if he meets Pandorama at some stage along the way. He has been ultra impressive on his three racecourse appearances and the P2P crowd were raving about his performance at Dungarvan. 7/1 with Paddy Power about him for Cheltenham at this stage does seem a bit skinny though, especially after Aran Concerto and Sweet Wake’s reversals at short odds in recent years.
November 12, 2008 at 19:36 #189414Meade has already hinted that Pandorama might go over fences sooner rather than later, so a clash with HF isn’t certain by any means. Mind you, that may have changed following Aran Concerto’s return.
It will be interesting to see how Mullins campaigns Hurricane Fly. He appears to be very versatile in terms of trip, and unless he bolts-up in the Royal Bond, I would expect that he will be upped in distance to keep him away from Cousin Vinny.
November 12, 2008 at 19:39 #189415Had great word for Hurricane Fly to win his maiden hurdle. Was on him at 11/4 amd also on him @ 50’s for both Novice hurdles at Cheltenham. A Machine. They consider him a Champion Hurdle horse of the future, But this Pandorama looks the business too. Interesting times ahead.

Fair effort, Gigginstown.
I thought I was on nice and early for the Ballymore, but couldn’t get any bigger than 16/1. Who was laying the 50’s, because there hasn’t been a sheckel laid at longer than 20/1 on BetFair?
November 18, 2008 at 16:58 #190439I got it in O’Mearas Bookmakers in Portumna . This was in early May. Just before he won his maiden.
November 18, 2008 at 18:59 #190459Could be an inspired bit of foresight that giggsy.. Looks a supreme novice horse to me. Montjeu, strong pace, stamina test, hurdles well.. 50’s is a top price.
November 18, 2008 at 19:32 #190462If any one here knows O’Mearas in Portumna. He is as mad as a box of frogs. A i only have handy money on him.
November 18, 2008 at 20:32 #190469I got matched at a high of 85 for the Supreme (though only for buttons).
HF’s price has contracted for the Supreme on Betfair (now 38 to Back), but he isn’t quoted by any other bookmaker for the race, and is a general 12’s chance for the Ballymore. The market suggests we’ll see him in the longer event.
It will be interesting to see how Willie Mullins handles the respective campaigns of Hurricane Fly and Cousin Vinny, should the former win the Royal Bond. Is it beyond the realms to suggest that CV might be aimed at the Ballymore, rather than the Supreme? A lot of Champion Bumper horses have proven best over further than 2m.
Grivette has let the form down in France, of late, but I’m not overly concerned at this stage.
November 18, 2008 at 20:36 #190470He mightn’t have to worry about Cousin Vinny!!!
