2:30 Queen Anne Stakes
I cannot see how FINSCEAL BEO can be overlooked, she has form with Duke Of Marmalade, over 1m 2f and it is clear from her 2 Guineas wins last year she is best at a mile. I think this could be hers for the taking. My only real bet today, as we all know Henry will canter home against the field today, but at a bad price!

will back henrythenavigator to winJune 17, 2008 at 10:17 #168692Im happy to be on Sageburg. I think that most of the others are just not quite there at this level (Cesare and the Stoute horse) or have to get back to top class form after a slightly dissappointing period (Darjina and FB),. And there is of course the bigged up hype horse
I am a little suprised Sageberg isnt a shade shorter.
Tariq is my main danger

June 17, 2008 at 10:54 #168699Spent last 6 weeks or so in hospital after a bad biking accident so only seen racing off terrestrial TV and not fully up to speed with form, but really glad I got out before Ascot and that I can enjoy what looks like a great week’s racing.
Horse I really fancy today are Benbaun in the King Stand. Also can’t wait to see Henrythenavigator after missing the Irish Guineas where I’m told he was awesome and the form hasn’t been harmed too much by New Approach winning the Derby. Maybe Stubbs Art is a good bet to sneak a place given the fact he’s beaten most of these in our guineas and was close up again at The Curragh.June 17, 2008 at 10:59 #168704for me i will go for the following
2.30. darjina
3.45.falco.win&place
4.20.himalya

?
not sure which one you are refering to…but at the very basic level, there has been just one win between them in their last ten runnings
lots of excuses and so on…
June 17, 2008 at 11:25 #168709I’’d choose Finsceal Beo in the first. I like to stick to Group 1-winners in Group 1s – unless there is very strong Group 2-winning form.
The only Group 1-winners are: Darjina, Finsceal Beo, Haradasun, Sageburg, Mount Nelson.
Hard to see Darjina going from flopping in a poor Group 1 in France last time to winning this; and she had no excuses that day (should have been fit enough after running in Dubai). Finsceal Beo will love this firm ground and seems to be back to her best judging by her last run over 1m2f (she was cruising until the final furlong). I’m prejudiced against Australian form (Haradasun) from anything other than 5/6f races – and the horse doesn’t even seem to have that good form there (lost his last seven races and was tried in cheekpieces). Sageburg looked good last time but I’m not sure the ground will suit him: he’s the main threat. Mount Nelson is seemingly gone at the game.
As for Tariq: his greatest success was in a Group 2 at Goodwood but is beating Asset 1-1/4L (with Dunelight in third) that great? I think he may have been flattered in his last run too (a slowly run 1m race, so suiting a horse with plenty of 7f form)
I think there are easier 9/4s shots than Fleeting Spirit. In fact, My Gacho is one at Thirsk today. I have no desire to back Henrythenavigator at that price, going for his third win in a row. The other races look impossible to me.
June 17, 2008 at 11:27 #168711really looking forward to Royal Ascot later on, and Attheraces are showing all the races live for Free once you are reg with them so my work this week will be taking a little longer…..
in the 1st today going for Finsceal Beo she ran well enough against Duke Of Marmalade at the curragh and at 7/1 nice e/w prospects…
going with Fleeting Spirit in the 2nd, Henry in the next was going to be my banker this week but his price is crap so my banker is in the next race ORIZABA when won his last race in May i made a note in phone to remind me forgot all about him untill alarm went on phone this morning so looking for a big run….the last 2 races are fairly trappy i think to pick a winner, so going for Baddam who is a CD winner and value at 12/1 and mullionmileanhour in the last his connections have kept him for this race (i’m sure like a lot of others) and at 11/1 hoping he can get placed……June 17, 2008 at 11:48 #168720Paddy Power are going the dreaded "money-back if second to Fleeting Spirit" They have a good knack of getting these horses beaten.
June 17, 2008 at 12:23 #1687272.30 – Finsceal Beo
3.05 – Dandy Man
3.45 – Raven’s Pass
4.20 – Himalya
4.55 – Duty Free
5.30 – Missile DodgerThe ground has come right for Finsceal Beo and I think she’s retained her ability this season which for me would be good enough to win this. Godolphin have been in shocking form but they tend to come good at Royal Ascot and Dandy Man finished second in this last season so I thought I’d take a chance with him at a decent price. Raven’s Pass will enjoy the ground and I think there is a big race in him this season although obviously Henrythenavigator will be extremely difficult to beat. I was impressed with Himalya on his debut so I’ve gone for him in a wide open race. I think Duty Free will appreciate the step up in trip. Missile Dodger won well on his debut over 5f and then finished fifth on his next start over 6f on soft ground. I think coming back to 5f on this quicker ground will suit him and he could run well at a big price.
June 17, 2008 at 12:30 #1687292.30 Tariq
3.05 Fleeting Spirit
3.45 Henrythenavigator (Raven’s Pass e/w)
4.20 Instalment (nb)
4.55 Bukit Tinggi
5.30 Brae Hill (Nap)Think Brae Hill could be a very nice sort and the way he won last time out at Leicester couldn’t have been much more impressive. It could be argued he didn’t beat a lot and perhaps this is true, but he destroyed his rivals that day and surely more to come. Instalment in the Coventry, for me, is massively overpriced at 20/1. Yes, he won the first division of the maiden Orizaba won in a slower time and is probably about 10-12 lengths behind him on that evidence but, he was very green that day and once he picked up, he flew and I am sure there is tons of improvement left in him. Tariq in the opener is my other confident selection today. Yes he has to prove he stays a mile, but he was running on in the Lockinge when given quite a lot to do and also holds Cesare, Arabian Gleam and Haradasun on that run and the way he ran on in the Jersey last season was very impressive. Darjina, if back to her Moulin for, would be a massive danger, but hasn’t be the same filly for a while now, albeit on ground slower than ideal.
A great days racing in prospect whatever happens!
June 17, 2008 at 13:10 #168741Once again from a going point of view it is a tale of two courses. The straight course is proper quick ground but the round course is good ground. Anything running on the straight course needs to be a fast ground specialist.
June 17, 2008 at 13:33 #168747Interest for me surrounds:
Lord Shanakil – for reasons discussed in the ‘Coventry Stakes’ thread,
Takeover Target – on the back of his Singapore victory,
Tears Of A Clown – some speedy relatives but with a stamina-laden pedigree that I hope will see him step up on efforts over shorter trips.
June 17, 2008 at 13:36 #168748Having looked at the first, I reckon many won’t be suited by underfoot conditions. My two against the field would be Finsceal Beo and Arabian Gleam. The latter is a crazy price at 30/1 on Betfair.
June 17, 2008 at 13:42 #1687492.30 Sageburg
3.05 Fleeting Spirit
3.45 Henrythenavigator
4.20 Peter Tchaikovsky
