Well ………………………. I am not sure what to say to that!! I can’t even say I was unlucky with Invitation Only
And I am not sure what Townend was doing on ABF ??Crazy race!!
I think Al Boum Photo is a bit insane himself. He was kept at the back throughout the 1st circuit and then taken very wide. He might not like other horses around him. Had he kept him straight, he would have been 1st or 2nd.
April 24, 2018 at 18:59 #1351802I’ve no idea what Paul Townend is doing this evening. Questionable ride on Douvan and then that on Al Boum Photo.
Just jump the fence. Why are you sitting up and looking round to your right just a few strides from the fence ?
April 24, 2018 at 19:02 #1351803Relieved that all the horses in the race seem to be ok; was listening to it on the radio and it sounded like carnage.
April 24, 2018 at 19:04 #1351804They’ve shown a replay from behind the last and Townend definitely looks round and then makes a decision to switch his mount. He pushes him towards Finians Oscar and that right side of the fence

He either thought the horse went wrong or the horse saw something he didn’t trust/like when coming towards the stands.

April 24, 2018 at 19:07 #1351807Firstly, well done Jack with your winner and then well played UDS backers.
Secondly, I disagree with the bit about Cheltenham being nothing without the Irish. That’s just a load of nonsense. Cheltenham is what it is because it’s the only time the English and Irish take each other on. But even without the Irish, it would still be top class. Definitely the best meeting.
Finally, wtf just happened in that last race? I can’t ubderstand what Townsend is actually doing? He’s taken him wide and then pulled him across as if he heard a shout or something to bypass the fence. Madness.
April 24, 2018 at 19:07 #1351808This was purely on the jockey, the way he looked round it was almost as if he got a call from behind and then steered the horse right as if he had to bypass the last. Will be interesting to see what he says to explain that.
April 24, 2018 at 19:09 #1351809What I don’t get is when he looked back he must’ve seen no one else was going round the fence so why did he go that way. Dunno.
April 24, 2018 at 19:10 #1351810I’m 1000% sure he thought he was on the wrong course and that they wouldn’t have to jump that fence!!!
That’s the only plausible explanation.
April 24, 2018 at 19:17 #1351812That deserves a 6 month ban if not longer.
April 24, 2018 at 19:20 #1351813As the rail ends, he looks like he is going to pull up, mistook winning post? I just can’t have that he heard something.

Are you being serious ? it’s Punchestown with a couple of fences in the home straight not the cross country at cheltenham
April 24, 2018 at 19:24 #1351816Townend has been given a 21 day ban for dangerous riding
April 24, 2018 at 19:26 #1351817Rode the exact same course on Douvan a hour or so beforehand so he must have had a complete brain freeze to do what he did.
April 24, 2018 at 19:32 #1351818Nabbed on the line in the last at 8/1
Typical.
April 24, 2018 at 19:32 #1351819Totally tongue in cheek:
Im sure the jockey can afford an expensive 21 day holiday having been paid to throw that race.
