Think you would have been pretty confident in running with Buachaill Alain, well done.
October 27, 2016 at 16:36 #1268868Well done
October 27, 2016 at 16:51 #1268869As above hope you talked yourself into it Bobby!! Nice winner!!
October 27, 2016 at 19:56 #1268881Thanks guys, pleased to say I did go for him, he started to go a bit blue on Oddschecker last night, so couldn’t miss out myself.
Just on my break at work and checked the result, very happy. Going by your comment stilvi, he must have travelled well, I’ll watch it when I get home
October 31, 2016 at 13:09 #1269727Bob any views on races at Galway i like She’s a Star but in handicap chase i gone for my cliff horse.KILLER CROW 6/1 i think 3m to far for him and drop in trip is perfect for him think 2m5 best trip but doubt extra furlong a problem today.
And you see Gordon Elliott stable tour in RP few weeks ago he got NED STARK from Alan King target for him is paddy power over christmas.Think a new yard see him a different horse.Though i don’t think King did anything wrong he a good trainer to.But seen a lot new horses go to Elliott gets them better to
October 31, 2016 at 19:06 #1269850I had a couple of quid on Aranhill Chief & the rev forecast with Dromnea today Darre, was a nice wee race for a Monday.
Very very interesting about Ned Stark, as you know he was a horse I was very keen on last year, just never happened for him, did it? He’d automatically be on my shortlist for that race, thanks for the info
October 31, 2016 at 19:09 #1269851stilvi, didn’t catch the race, but I see Jelan won today, and sounds as if it was quite comfortable. Much too short for me to have a bet, but sounds like a step in the right direction.

Must admit I forgot about the race. I certainly wouldn’t have backed her. Third different jockey in three races. She looked to get outpaced and then outstay them. She looks as tiny as she did before and I would be surprised if she upheld the family tradition over obstacles but she would be worth a few quid even if they retired her now.
Couple of interesting ex-Irish pointers at Chepstow tomorrow.
Dingo Dollar runs for Alan King in the second maiden hurdle. Although it doesn’t say so in the Racing Post write-up he was massively fortunate to win his point as the leader came down at the last and the second literally came to a standstill. He would have finished a distant third. The only positive would be that the two who should have beaten him are now with Gigginstown.
Sumkindofking runs in the last for Tom George who I think won this race last year with Bun Doran. I may have mentioned this somewhere before but this horse is a full brother to Minella Foru. He quickened up quite nicely to win his second point and through a horse called Rathcannon the form doesn’t look too bad. Being very old fashioned I have never had a bet on Betfair and I am hoping they don’t continue to wreck the bumper and novice markets by pricing up an hour before everyone else. They put him in at 13/2 and I think there were three price cuts before the others got started. It will be very disappointing if they are all going to be waiting for Betfair to iron out any ricks.
November 1, 2016 at 23:49 #1270067Yeah, she’s definitely not the biggest, but decent nonetheless. I’d share your concerns going over hurdles due to her size, but if she tunred up somewhere at a price, I’d keep her in mind.
That Sumkindofking sounds interesting, especially being a relative of Minella Foru, who I’m a big fan of. I haven’t dug out much for tomorrow, and still betting sparingly, but I might have him in a “fun” double with Back By Midnight.
Yeah, there’s no doubt that Betfair markets can rather give the game away sometimes, and when you miss out, it’s a right pain. There have been plenty of times I’ve got ahead of the game though, so just kind of take it on the chin on the occasions I miss out.
November 2, 2016 at 09:35 #1270093Obviously big problems with the ground at Chepstow. This race and others ruined as a betting medium. Amazing how they managed to make it safe for Thistlecrack.
November 2, 2016 at 14:36 #1270191Yeah, not great at all, and pleased to say my money is staying in my pocket.
November 2, 2016 at 16:31 #1270198He might not have been a price stilvi, and the race did cut up, but regardless, he looks very very useful. Great shout (again).
November 2, 2016 at 16:54 #1270203Thanks, I think all the deductions added up to 70p but you can’t quibble with an easy win. He is quite small (which is probably why they got him for what looks reasonable money) but he seems to have an engine. Hopefully, he will progress a little bit better than Bun Doran. I don’t think he would want the ground too soft.
Just one negative and it is a bug bear of mine at Chepstow. Why do jockeys sit out wide running round that bend? You can easily lose 10 lengths or even worse get carried out. Fortunately, in this instance another horse came through on the outside of the winner and in so doing prevented much ground loss.
November 2, 2016 at 17:20 #1270209Yeah, I’ve noticed that a few times at Chepstow. No idea why, but could it be ground issues on that particular bend.
As for Sumkindofking, I’m hoping he takes in a hotter contest next time, and is a price. Just wish I could have found a couple to go with him today.
November 3, 2016 at 15:33 #1270330Interesting bumper at Warwick tomorrow. Almost certainly too many unknowns to warrant a bet but should be well worth watching with an eye on the future.
Just a quick run through of some of the pedigrees.
I wouldn’t expect Celestial Chimes to be winning but she is a half sister to Richard’s Sundance; Corrie Loch is a home-bred half sister to Generous Ransom; Katy P disappointed for the Harrington’s but is from the family of Gunner Welburn and Celtic Giant; Mariah’s Legend is a half sister to Pendra; Melangerie is a half sister to Cultivator; Odello is closely related to Banjaxed Girl and Pique Rock is out of a half sister to I’msingingtheblues.
The point win of The Wicket Chicken looks pretty modest. It would be disappointing if she is good enough to win.
If forced to give a selection it would be Odello but it should be noted that Greatrex no longer needs to win bumpers to put himself in the shop window and you could name five or six here and still not get the winner.
November 3, 2016 at 17:27 #1270337You’d think after the success I’ve had with “The Midnight Club”, that I’d pay a bit more attention to Breeding and pedigrees, but it remains an area where I think the best word to use is “ignorant”. It’s good to hear the thoughts of those who are clued up on it though. Coincidentally, the only time I’ve really followed horses who are closely related, was Jezki, Jetson, Jett, and of course more recently, Jelan.
My quiet(ish) October is coming to an end, and with a day off tomorrow, I might just have a couple of bets.
I wasn’t going to look at that bumper, but after reading your summary, my interest has been “piqued” (sorry) by the second string from the King yard Pique Rock. I always liked I’msingingtheblues, and I’ve taken the 22’s. Warwick is one of my favourite tracks, and had a lot of joy there, so worth a go I think.
Now to find 3 or 4 more, and I might sway towards Woodford Island 8’s, and Mitebeall Forluck 13-2, who look backable at those prices, while I really like Kayfleur at 9-2 at Warwick. At those prices, I might just perm with Pique Rock.
November 3, 2016 at 17:45 #1270340November sees a few big prizes, so here’s a round up of Ante-Posts so far, starting with BetVictor Gold Cup……
BetVictor Gold Cup
Formerly “The Paddy Power”, it’s only a month away, and after the first busy weekend of the National Hunt Season, not surprising to see a few candidates emerging.
At Chepstow today, a case could be made for the first 3 home in the 1600, namely Art Mauresque, Double Shuffle, and Voix D’Eau. Of those 3, I’d maybe just favour Voix D’Eau just now.
Double Ross, who won the 1700, could easily go for it again. He was my big hope in it last year, and even allowing for the rise he’ll get for this win, he should still be competitive. I had him in mind for The Becher in December, but I’ll give him serious consideration for this, should he get an entry. With the NTD yard in blistering form, Bristol De Mai looks a worthy favourite, and if he continues his progression, no surprise to see him justify his place at the head of the market. The run from Splash of Ginge didn’t go unnoticed today, and he might just have a bit of his old spark back.
Definitely heading for it is impressive Fontwell winner, Frodon, trained by Paul Nicholls. I thought the fences at Fontwell looked huge that day, and he was very impressive over them. Great performance from a young horse.
Another horse who’s got a run under his belt today was the Rebecca Curtis trained Irish Cavalier. She’s been in decent form, and the way he cantered into contention in this last year hasn’t been forgotten. If she can get him ready, then he could be a big danger. It’s his stablemate though, Vintage Vinnie, who’s an early fancy of mine. A win over hurdles, followed by a gutsy display when winning over fences at Market Rasen, put him into my notebook for this. He then ran at Newton Abbot on Friday, with the conditions of the race totally against him, and put in a fine show against the excellent winner Virgilo. I put him up as a Novice Chaser to keep an eye on last year, but he didn’t back it up at all. Looks a different proposition this time around though, and I’d love to see him go here.
Ballyalton was an impressive winner at The Festival, and at this trip, he’s worth a second look, and a big price at 25’s, for a horse who’ll surely head here.
A dark horse of mine for this race last year was Generous Ransom, and interesting that he’s made the switch to Philip Hobbs, having previously been with Nick Gifford. Hopefully the switch can make the difference, and if not for here, then big handicap at the December meeting might be ideal. Hobbs winner of that race last year, Village Vic, could emerge as a contender for this, but he might just need a hand from the handicapper, after last seasons exploits.
Taquin De Seuil from the Jonjo yard had a pleasing comeback yesterday over hurdles, though off 156, this might just be a big ask, though in no rush to write him off either. His stablemate, Johns Spirit is always popular for these types of races, having won it in 2013. He looks a shadow of his former self, and his last run at Bangor was pretty poor, and he’s now went down 27 lbs in an year and a half. Looking at some of his runs though before that, he hasn’t been that bad, and should he get an entry, there’s no way I’m missing that 33’s, in the off chance they can get him back for one last hurrah.
There’s the obvious problem of runner from The Mullins yard to contend with, and the likes of Black Hercules, and Killultagh Vic could easily head here, and easily win it, but even at this relatively short period from the race, I won’t try to second guess him.
No bet for me at the moment, but keen on Vintage Vinnie at the 25’s, and Generous Ransom, who’s not been priced up yet. I’ve added him to the market on Betfair, so hopefully I can get a few quid on at a price. They’d be my main early fancies at the moment.
Early doors of course, and there’s 3 or 4 others mentioned above, who I think could run very well, so won’t be parting with any serious cash just now.
************************************************************************************************************
Very pleased Generous Ransom didn’t get an entry, as he didn’t look as if he’d be ready, certainly judged on his performance at Newbury today. I did though, in the end, side with Vintage Vinnie, and I’m on 20’s and 25’s each way, and though the market would suggest he isn’t going, I topped up to 100’s on Betfair.
I’ll happily side with a couple of others though, with the likes of As De Mee 20’s, Splash of Ginge 33’s, Taquin De Seuil 14’s, and both at 25’s, Triolo D’Alene & Ballynagour, all making some appeal.
