Sensible decision to bin a few on Saturday. Poor day on the whole, but Prince Zaltar put a better spin on things. Most interesting one though was Coko Beach. Given every chance, thought it a decent ride, and he looked keen not to bottom him. I’ll be very interested to see where they send him next

Really looking forward to The Crystal Cup today, with Galvin and Gesskile up against each other. Gesskile becoming a real favourite, while Galvin I’ve rabbited on about enough the last few years. Unfortunately the prices mean that I can’t back both. Throw in Didero Vallis who got me the EW Money at 66’s last time, and I’ll have to sit it out

Lord Du Mesnil and Thecompanysergeant the only bets (so far)

    Catesby – Thecompanysergeant 25’s EW4Pl
Veterans – Lord Du Mesnil 11’s

You must be gutted Bobby with Gesskile one of your favs- so sad. horrible when they go wrong and such a young horse. Clearly an absolute favourite of the stable, jockey was in pieces about it. Shows how loved and cared for these horses are.

Thanks Ken. Just gutted mate, brutal viewing again. I just hope it was over quickly for him. Bet Torn and Frayed for tomorrow, and I had a big win on him at 25’s two years back, and couldn’t enjoy it after we lost Midnight Shadow same day. Said then that I was struggling with it all……………but I’m still here. Won’t defend it anymore though.

1240 Cheltenham – Midnight Our Fred
    Quintessential – Funambule Sivola 7’s
Virgin Bet Cup – Do Your Job 33’s
Virgin Bet Cup – Torn and Frayed 25’s EW
    1715 Newcastle – Cusack

Happy with Midnight Our Fred, and a decent profit in running, and decent efforts by Cusack and Funambule. However, Do Your Job stunk again, and I have to cut these ones out.

Off to Carlisle today, and looks an ok card, for all I’ll have to get wrapped up

Bet a few already, and hoping one of them can do the business

Some interesting ones in Ireland too………

    McAlpine
    Butty O’Brien
    Neveradullmoment

…as well as last season’s notebook horse, High Treason at Southwell, but think I better stick to Carlisle

I had a look at your post yesterday. For some reason (which is probably obvious) I was convinced that you had formerly tipped Geromino. Consequently, I mistakenly backed Geromino and was happy with the result. However, I think your former tip was Geronimo?

Not sure if you follow Joe’s musings on his blog, but today he put up the following, “Geromino’s owner might be taken to court for misnaming by the Native American Society, who say they might Sioux.” Joe’s recent analysis of the big races has been tiptop on his blog.

Was too busy yesterday morning to take much notice, but I shall look at your selection today and wish you very good fortune at Carlisle.
Later – Hope you backed Butty O’Brien. :-)

Brilliant mate, a winners a winner. Definitely not bet by me, I left the meeting altogether, but perhaps you’re thinking of Geronimo, who was a Sandy Thomson horse I used to put up.

Yes, a good few pounds on Butty O’Brien mate, 33’s as well, but only cause it was on big screen. Well chuffed. He and Sandy’s Go Boy made it a good day, but some of the rest were terrible. If you ever see me put up Schalke again………give me a kick

    Well done again

It’s another flying visit from me Bob. Another great thread I see, and the usual ante-post mayhem

Thanks for getting my ten up on the ten to follow, and a very merry Christmas to you and the family

Bets today covered in Big Races.

Jagwar one of my big hopes for the spring, and though a rather obvious shout, he has to be considered for The Martin Pipe. Yard have had horrendous luck lately, so I hope he can change things today. Far too short for a bet though.

Elsewhere I like Donny Boy and Blue Baloo, but probably best to keep it simple ahead of a busy week

Tommy Whittle – Coopers Cros 30’s EW
Long Walk – Dashel Drasher 11’s
    Silver Cup – Larry 16’s EW 4Pls
    Exchange Hurdle – Faivoir 35’s EW 4Pls

Money comfortably back for Dashel Drasher, but also comfortably a losing day.

Being careful today. Considered Eagle Fang in the next at Leopardstown, while I couldn’t believe the prices of Sharjah and My Mate Mozzie. Currently chewing that race over.

Want to bet Enpire Steel at 9-2, but Sandy Thomson approach for me doesn’t appeal much when they’re those odds, while same applies to Greenal/Guerriero angle for me with Concetto in Lincolnshire National

Only other I’ve bet so far to go with my King George pair is Livings Boy an Co

Midnight River was my other big Antepost this season, and I’m hoping it’s a better outcome for Frodon. I’ve had a go, though Hewick would be a nice consolation

1422 Market Rasen – Livings Boy An Co
    King George – Frodon 66’s EW 3Pls
    King George – Hewick 33’s

Sometimes sticking with horses just because we love them pays off, doesn’t it!

Top selection, VtC. Gavin Sheehan gave Hewick a perfectly timed ride. It’s not the sort of end to the KG that you expect, but was remarkable. Brilliant long pot on your part. Drifted a bit before the off, so I bet it again at 14s. Good luck with the coming races.

Cheers mate, just a great ride, and what a buzz. The type of winner I look for, and he’s just a cracking horse. Glad you were on.

One of the biggest and best handicaps of the season today, The Paddy Power Chase, and went with En Beton and Run Wild Fred. Had high hopes for En Beton two years back, and hoping recent comeback run will have made a difference, while Fred is going to pop up somewhere this year.

Biggest problem is Ontheropes. Big notebook horse of mine a couple of years back, culminating in a cracking win in Munster National. I’m hoping he needs this, and he’s my idea of Thyestes winner. I’ll definitely cover him in running if threatening. I suppose stablemate Meetingofthewaters is giving me a problem too

Earlier on card I’ve topped up my Antepost on Saint Roi to 22’

Split stakes in The Desert Orchid. A peak Editeur Du Gite would retain this, but he’s looked rusty. Also went with Grange Walk. He’s way overpriced, and has a big chance if he can stay on his feet.

Earlier on card I’m considering Soaring Glory, while I wasn’t going to bother with Welsh National, but I give Didero Vallis a small chance.

    Paddy’s Reward Club – Saint Roi 22’s
Desert Orchid – Editeur Du Gite 7’s
Editeur Du Gite – Grange Walk 25’s
Welsh National – Didero Vallis EW7/66’s
    Paddy Power – En Beton 50’s EW6Pls
    Paddy Power – Royal Thief 66’s EW6Pls
Paddy Power – Run Wild Fred 40’s

    Added Royal Thief

I’ve not seen it confirmed with En Beton, but seems inevitable, as Racing TV have edited the coverage. Brutal. Again.

Yet as usual, I keep going. Sigh

Happy with Editeur yesterday. Best horse in the race, down the weights, the 7’s was mad. Smashing horse.

After En Beton, I’ll just stick with the bets already placed in The Savills. Topped up Churchstonewarrior to four places, but that’s back down to three now with the non runners. Topped up Conflated just now, as the 14’s will have a fair old R4 attached.

    Conflated 14’s

Absolutely delighted to see Frodon retired. He’s been a fabulous horse to follow, and I hope he has a long healthy retirement. He’s been a regular on here the last five years, and been very very good to me.

Just one bet tomorrow with Bangers and Cash in The Mandarin

Well done with Hewick and Editeur bets Bobby, I bet it was a buzz to see Hewick flying home. Sad about En Beton, a gorgeous big horse.
Really glad your lad Frodon got out in one piece, what a horse for you all this time.
Hope your head is OK, don’t go too hard on the lash on Sunday night as I will need you to count my points for when Classic Getaway hacks up at Tramore ;-)
    Happy New Year

Thanks Grass, really happy, especially with Hewick.

En Beton a smashing horse, such a shame. Frodon gave me so many good returns, unbelievable, and I’m just delighted he’s out in one piece. I was initially kicking myself for not betting target horse Meetingofthewaters, but quickly put it in perspective

I can’t guarantee I won’t have a sore head, but I promise I’ll be fit enough for your Tramore points. I agree, I think he’ll win, but I’ll be with my old pal Frenchy, as they call him in the yard apparently. EW of course. I’ll also watch Jungle Boogie closely

Happy New Year when it comes to you and the family.

Very happy yesterday with Bangers and got the EW at 22’s

Couple today. Hoping to beat 9-2 for Thhedevilscoachman, and I think Another Red Cat has an EW chance.
