As someone who’s been on Samcro for many months on the any race market (see page 1), it’s interesting that Next Destination is running here.
I personally think both ND and On the Blind side would be better suited to the Albert Bartlett. Samcros cruising speed looks incredible.
The comparisons I’m reading in the media between him and Death duty are bizarre. They’re two completely different horses and, other than both being owned by Gigginstown and are Irish, bear no resemblance to me.
Death Duty was winning races in Ireland but was grinding them out. Samcro is having them beat with two furlongs to run every single time.
@middleofmarch
The comparison comes from the hype of both horses. Death Duty last year was considered his best since Don Cossack+No More Heroes….now the batton is with Samcro for that honour. On their bumper runs, you can see Samcro and DD have grinded out a bumper as well…Samcro beating WPM average enough mare…Death Duty, Our Duke….Of course bumpers will not have suited DD or OD too much….
Moving on to their hurdle runs, Samcro has so far beat them easily….a Maiden Hurdle and an average enough G3? Form wise i wouldn’t be singing and shouting about it. But yes, hes murdered them. Beating average enough horses so easily is nice, but the step up in grade is what will prove the acid test- DD did all the same things last year as Samcro…He had won a G1 also, albeit he might have been tested had AK stayed up.
Basically my point is he has looked fantastic, but haven’t many a horse before the festival and before actually racing against any great opponents?
I was down at Elliots late October, and watched him work….obviously works just work, but he looked to do everything so easily….then his rider reports to Simon (Gordon was at sales) that Samcro wasnt working well, and that theyd have to get him checked out…He’s won easily since then, but hasn’t ran at his main target, i wonder is he slightly fragile coming? Maybe they are just minding him as Elliot has probably learnt over the years with his novices to slow things down….he went overboard with Don Cossack also..
More hype horses lose than win, i will play the race e/w probably and if i see a fantastic Samcro i will applaud him, and hopefully have an e/w placed

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 4, 2018 at 14:08 #1340797Well, that was a demolition by Samcro. He is the novice banker of the week, no question.
February 4, 2018 at 14:09 #1340799Anyone want to go against me now?
As I said in October on this thread, he’s the most exciting newbie in many years to horse racing.
Absolute monster.
Samcro will win the Neptune but I think he would win the Supreme if he went there (not that he will be).
February 4, 2018 at 14:18 #1340801DOnt think anyone was really against you MoM its better to tread carefully personally with novices 90% of the time they dont live upto there hype and generally youll be wrong more than your right on it
But on this one your definitely correct, he looks the best novice, but hes beat 2m horses on that occasion and thats a concern for me that he would come here
My only worry, slight worry would be, the ballymore is quite deep, whereas the supreme looks there to literally mop up, could that sway them away?
On the blind side, next destination, getabird etc
Whereas in the supreme who really is left, if the cap fits is the only shorter priced to remain, there falling by the wayside race after race, claimantakinforgan for example has just lost, sharjah well beaten, real steel beaten …
Hes a worthy fav for this, but it is a deep race and id probably still take him on, on the day just because of his price but hes an absolute certainty in the supreme
Justt a thought, what a prospect though
February 4, 2018 at 14:48 #1340808Appreciate your views Ham. Whilst I want him in the Ballymore for my bets, my early season bets were for him any race.
I genuinely can’t rememebr a newcomer to horse racing being this exciting.
I genuinely believe he could win my novice race Elliott chooses at this point.
February 4, 2018 at 15:03 #1340810Yeah being on any race your in a good position, i have no doubt how talented he is, my concerns above where what race he would appear in,not if he could win, the supreme looks by far the easier of the two, but like you have said, any race markets means you dont have to sweat it out
I hope the keep him hurdling next year, the 2m division could be doing with it
February 4, 2018 at 15:11 #1340812I couldn’t agree more MOM and I think he’ll be even better over fences. I too am on him a good odds in the ‘win any race’ market hence I am largely indifferent as to in which race he runs. But I do agree with Ham, the Supreme looks there for the taking versus a deep looking Ballymore. I don’t think it will make a difference but why not try and win the easier race?
February 4, 2018 at 15:37 #1340826I have a very good trixie with him in the Ballymore so I’d prefer him running in that tbh.
Samcro 2/1
Altior 7/4
Apples Shakira 7/2But the any race bet is surely a winner.
For my antepost Any race bet on If The Cap Fits, is prefer Samcro to stay away from him as they could both win in my opinion if they stay apart.
February 4, 2018 at 15:39 #1340828I expect him to be in the RSA next season tbh Ham
He’s seen more as a gold cup horse long term than a champion hurdler I believe.
February 4, 2018 at 16:10 #1340846Yeah hes definitely going to go chasing at some point, i hope they keep him over hurdles for another season though
would be good for the divisonFebruary 5, 2018 at 00:30 #1340909Good boost to the On The Blind Side form at Musselburgh today
February 5, 2018 at 00:37 #1340910And yet his chances of winning have significantly decreased. If Samcro runs here as expected, it’s game over for the rest surely.
February 5, 2018 at 00:49 #1340912Either is a winner for me but moreso OTBS
Denman was beaten in this.
February 5, 2018 at 01:48 #1340914Fair point
February 5, 2018 at 23:05 #1341005Anyone want to go against me now?
what a ******. it’s not a competition.
February 6, 2018 at 01:49 #1341010More abuse from you on here Judge.
Don’t you think it might be time to take a step back if you get that worked up abaout it? If you look through the thread, me calling him a banker even in october got people’s backs up on this thread. Now a few have jumped on the bandwagon (fair enough) and I thought my light hearted comment was justified.
After your abuse to Raymo last week, not sure you are in any position to call me a ******.
February 6, 2018 at 06:07 #1341014Give it a rest, MOM.
You didn’t discover Samcro- in fact, we were discussing his options well in advance of the 2017 Festival, when I tipped him up for the Albert Bartlett (after Gigginstown purchased him following his point win) and others (rightly, as it turns out) argued that he’d have the speed for shorter trips.
You’re only a year too late.
