Thanks Jac and others. I saw Heavy Metal at 9/2 on Oddschecker but when I went into the list the best odds were actually 4/1. Still, happy enough with that price given how well backed he was.
Heavy Metal put the race to bed very quickly and if Thunder Snow has run something like his best, then Heavy Metal should be raised a few pounds for what looked like a career best.
Later on Walton Street was dismal given how well backed he was. I thought he was poor value at 3/1, never mind the 6/4 he ended up at. Too many question marks for him to be that price.
Best Solution ran well under his big weight and his performance suggests his poor efforts last year were for other reasons.
Well done D’Bai fans. I actually backed him for the Derby as a dark horse fun bet (£1 on at 50/1) but he quickly showed that to be a pipe dream. They seemed to think a bit of him at 2yo but so many of these Godolphin horses don’t seem to go on and they often do better as older horses.
I was well surprised by how Heavy Metal won today and it’s a fairy tale to come on like he has at eight years of age.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 12, 2018 at 07:54 #1336974good stuff steve didn’t notice the heavy metal winner as I don’t do the dirt stuff
agree with jonibake Benbatl did it well , although I don’t think he would beat benbatl, wouldn’t give up on Light The Lights from a better draw
roll on next week
January 12, 2018 at 08:54 #1336980This was a cracking meeting with different winning owners and trainers across the card which is great to see.
Unfortunately xmas excursions held me back from having a proper play here.
I managed to get above evens for Ertijaal so that was the only bet I had.
Hes an absolute machine (JC referred to him last year as an aeroplane) over the minimum but as I said earlier on in the thread…i dont feel he is as effective over 6.
I went to back Dbai at 15/2 but the odds were gone quickly and thought id leave that one…..oops!
Heavy Metal, Benbatl and Dbai were seriously impressive. Im also relatively happy with Thunder Snows first run back. Hopefully hell improve for that effort.
Cracking racing and I would STRONGLY recommend if you havent been to Meydan before to go – its incredible.
January 14, 2018 at 15:08 #1337465Thank you.
I don’t have the cards yet but Thursday’s meeting has the UAE 1000 Guineas trial and the Dubawi Stakes on the card.
The Dubawi Stakes has been upgraded to Group 3 status this year, so hopefully we might get some nice entries. It would also be good to see some classy 2YO’s from last season line up in the Guineas trial.
These will be the races I am focusing on and I will keep my eye out for some odds and report them here when available.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 15, 2018 at 12:02 #1337535decs out for thursday
January 15, 2018 at 16:34 #1337562Not sure about the strength of the UAE 1000 Guineas field but I do know that Doug Watson’s Rayya is the one I am interested in.
Rayya is a daughter of Tiz Wonderful and although she has only won a maiden so far it was a very taking performance. Always travelling well on the dirt, she hosed in by more than nine lengths. Any improvement will make her the one they all have to beat.
The Racing Post rated her 80 but Doug Watson said she was his best 2YO last year and that the target would be the UAE Guineas and indicated that he would leave it about 6 weeks before running again after her 7th December win.
All depends on the odds offered of course but I hope to be weighing in with her on Thursday.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 15, 2018 at 21:51 #1337605I tracked down a video for Rayya. It’s not easy finding maiden races from Meydan but here you go.
Rayya is number 7 and sports black silks with orange/black striped sleeves and cap.
It soon becomes apparent which one she is:-
Enjoy.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 15, 2018 at 22:19 #1337607what will she be thursday steve? 2s on?
Expressiy ran ok in the oh so sharp nothing more
As you said not a great trialJanuary 16, 2018 at 13:11 #1337660decs up on RP website now

As you said not a great trialWhen a horse wins by as far as Rayya did it gets into the realms of it being almost impossible for those in behind to be much cop. That’s why I don’t fret much about the form of those in behind not working out great simply because I don’t expect that it will.
Looking at the bare figures, The Racing Post have Expressiy 15 lbs clear of the field, who are tightly packed behind her. If the bookies go 1/2 Rayya, then surely the Appleby horse becomes the bet based on RPR.
Winter Lightning ran a promising race when no match for the useful looking Frankel filly Veracious, trained by Michael Stoute. She looks a nice filly who was green and a bit outpaced before coming through to take second.
Caring Touch also could be anything. Rated the same as Rayya on RPR at the moment, it wasn’t a great maiden she won on debut at Newcastle but neither was the favourite’s race. The daughter of Elusive Quality beat the warm Gosden favourite by six lengths that day and Oisin Murphy is jocked up.
The trouble is that I feel the Racing Post figures for Rayya are way low. Official ratings have her just 4 lbs behind Expessiy on 92 with Caring Touch on 90 and Winter Lightning on 89.
Even on official ratings I couldn’t make Rayya a 1/2 shot and I won’t be involved. I would be looking at one of the once raced Godolphin runners at suitable odds for a bit of potential value instead.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 16, 2018 at 14:01 #1337663I think it wont be as short as I put up steve needs to improve, but I was wondering whether the books will have a panic up and remember Polar River of Doug Watson’s.
January 16, 2018 at 14:11 #1337664Doug Watson isn’t in the best form either at the moment. Just 1/31 the past fortnight. It’s a tricky race to price up, probably why there are no odds at the moment. We may need to wait until about two hours before the race to get any prices.
I wouldn’t like to stick my neck out very far myself.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 17, 2018 at 06:42 #1337738I think I’ll get involved this week lads. No big stakes but a few multiples for a bit of fun. Having read this thread after he racing finished last week, it looked like good fun and also showed how many good judges we have on here.
Well done to you all.
January 17, 2018 at 06:51 #1337739I was at Newmarket for Winter Lightning’s debut behind Veracious (the winner looked very useful) and I noted that the Godolphin horse was quite big beforehand. He looked green that day too so should come on. They paid a fair whack for him so you’d expect that he will be decent in the long run. Not sure about him here though.
January 17, 2018 at 07:04 #1337740welcome aboard MOM
January 17, 2018 at 12:32 #13377601000 gns trial, i don’t bet on aw/dirt but it will be interesting to see what the books do with Rayya. Of the Godolphin three I would prefer Winter Lightning (as pointed out by MOM) ran a nice race on debut at HQ.
Expressiy, after watching the Oh So Sharp again a few times, i wonder whether she will be able to lie up with some of these.
Finally Caring Touch was green when winning on debut on the aw at Newcastle, she seemed better the further she went and this is over a furlong shorter(her dam although a maiden was even tried over 14f)So I will sit this out and look forward to the dirt/aw experts on this thread (no pressure then guys/girls)
January 17, 2018 at 12:42 #1337761just a note I see they have reached for the hood with Expressiy
