Sounds about right Nath  Perhaps I should just be known as the rambling ol’ get in the corner who occasionally gets one right, that’s how it’s looked thus far at any rate

Have I missed something while I’ve been away? I’m feeling a bit like the douche who storms into a wake asking ‘Who’s died?’ :?

Tom, I tried to PM you back but it was sitting in my Outbox for what seemed like forever.

Anyone know what the story is with the PM system on this site?

The quietness of this section and the forum in general is a big part of why I wound my thread up.

I am not following the jumps this year but I’ll probably pop in to to see what the National Hunt freaks are putting their money on this winter.

Good luck to all who are tipping and/or backing over the sticks this season.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Just a little cheeky one for today. My spidey senses were tingling at the start of the year when I saw that

    Es Que Love

had been relocated to more appropriate surroundings with Clive Cox. His progress hasn’t surprised me one iota and everything looks to have fallen right for him today. Despite being far and away the best horse in the race I’m still not convinced by

    Sole Power

    at 6f and ‘

    Gordon

‘ may find things happening a bit quick for him, such has been the weather of late.

Grabbed 19s with Betvictor the other day only to be gazumped with the bigger prices knocking about now. Hey ho!

Very sorry Nath, had been checking in without leaving replies to see who’s been upto what but your message completely passed me by for whatever reason.

I didn’t get my 20/1 honoured but they did pay me out at 9/2 (I think it was, sorry was a while back) which was the price I’d told them I wanted to beat, and was given a £50 free bet which you can’t really complain at I suppose. Sorry for the late reply mate!

Onto the season ahead, we all know I’m a sticks man and I’ve already spotted target number one on the calendar, the Paddy Power Gold Cup. Lots of good horses make up the bulk of the betting, half of which surely won’t show up dragging anchors. This race generally looks for an improving second season chaser with room to manoeuvre in the handicap. Couple these stats with an old mate of mine and we may have found the winner in

    Pendra

    .

Rated a measly 139 with masses of improvement in him, the festival third makes plenty of appeal to me at 16/1. Bigger prices may come along as other firms jump on the National Hunt bandwagon but i was far too eager to get involved. It all starts here

Very taking debut from another ‘Burton’ owned by Trevor Hemmings,

    Burton’s Well

. In fact this lad’s a half brother to the much maligned Nicky/Jonjo juggernaut and Venetia might have a nice one on her hands here. One to watch with interest going forward.

Willie’s bumper team should be running like ‘

    clockwork

‘ once again this year. Him and Rich Ricci have gone and picked up the extremely handy looking

    Au Quart De Tour

, who’s bred like a proper Mullins horse usually is. Eyes peeled!

Another Robin Des Champs Boz, already have him in my tracker

Can’t believe Pendra hasn’t even been given an entry in the Paddy Power. Surely there’s more to that. Yet another hole in Boz’s already threadbare pockets  Strange one that though.

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of National Hunt racing as the lines between the codes get less blurred meaning a) the top jumpers are on their way out and b) Robin Thicke metaphors can come to an end. No seriously just go, forever!

First things first the mrs will tell you I’m not one for being premature (oh no he didn’t!) but in finding myself a ‘Supreme horse’ by November i’ve most certainly left myself open to such jibes. Watching

    Miles To Memphis

glide round Fontwell the other week however did have a touch of the

    My Tent Or Yours’

about it however. His jumping was awkward and will certainly need some improvement (much like a younger MTOY) but in a similar vain his massive engine and electric cruising speed got him through. If he learns to jump there’ll be no stopping this lad and the general 33s on offer won’t last long.

    Miles To Memphis

Supreme Novice Hurdle, £10e/w@33/1 with SkyBet

Onto the present day I’ve had a ‘little bit of interest’ trixie for the weekend.

    Sgt Reckless

was always meant to be a chaser and showed his potential over timber last term, placing in the best novice races in the spring. He should run this lot ragged on his debut if he stays upright.

On the Emerald Isle last year’s Triumph winner

    Tiger Roll

looks a decent commodity with a lot thought of him. Having the fitness edge could be key in a race the stable quite rightly says he needs to win to prove a genuine Champion Hurdle contender. He’ll surely come up short for the latter but 9/4 looks a booting good price today.

    In tomorrow’s Charlie Hall

    Silviniaco Conti

looks the standout horse under the race conditions. Jonjo’s horse could be the fly in the ointment having had the benefit of a run but against last year’s King George and Aintree Bowl winner he might find things against him on his first go at 3 miles. The Nicholls horse cruised home round here 2 years ago and, although I don’t expect him to find things quite as easy tomorrow, I do think he’ll prove hard to beat.

    I’ll be disappointed if

    Silvianaco Conti

can’t land the Charlie Hall. I am not betting on the jumpers this year but he’s in my ten to follow for the site comp.

7/4 looked OK to me when the book opened because I’d pencilled him is as an even money shot in this company.

If I was punting I’d have stuck him in a double with

    Monkey Kingdom

, who ran well enough behind an odds-on Nicholls runner last time, finishing miles clear of the rest. Dropped a grade from 2 to 3 and top weight in a novice handicap at Ascot tomorrow, he can make the most of this ease in class and score for Rebecca Curtis, who is in excellent form recently.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

    Just putting it out there…….

    Champagne Fever

    , although an unlikely runner

    should

line up in the Paddy Power instead of stopping at Clonmel. He’d probably end up going off top weight but would jump round for fun. Forgotten horse and reminds me a bit of

    Al Ferof

in the same circumstance. Come on Ruby, get in Rich and Willies’ ears!

One of those strangely bleak and bittersweet days of sport today where a couple of top class cards are overshadowed by the sad loss of one of racing’s truly great men. RIP Dessie, thoughts go out to the family of one of few men who can undoubtedly carry the title of ‘legend’.

Why good morning pagans. I do hope everyone’s well at this festive time. It’s time for ‘Boz’s corner’, a wee jackanory in an attempt to provide a winter warmer to yee all……..

A little while ago yours truly was on his annual visit to ‘Headache Park’ for glitz and the glammer that is Betfair Chase day. A fun day was had by all and, although the winners didn’t roll in as I’d have wished, a potentially lucrative piece of information was passed my way.

I shan’t name names as, well that would take the fun out of my game  I was however on my travels when I happened to bump into a highly respected trainer watching one of his string take their place in a race down at Ascot. Not wishing to be rude I waited until his race was over before engaging in conversation. I was delighted to find he was friendly, forthcoming and more than happy to talk about certain members of his team that I quizzed him on; a stand up bloke really!

Now here’s where it gets interesting. As I said this ‘mystery trainer’ was very open and honest in what he told me, no straight bats were played. So when I asked him about a relative newcomer to the yard I’d waited most of last season for, a horse who’s point form had seen him beat a subsequent Cheltenham festival winner, his response definitely made me take note. "He’ll win next time out, definitely," was the confident, steely eyed reply I was given. Time to save some pennies for an almighty Christmas coup……

The horse in question’s half length second in a maiden hurdle has gone from looking decent to top notch form as the third has gone on to win a class 2. The icing on the cake is the winner who went from winning upped in class to finishing a nostril second in a graded race. Maiden form well and truly franked.

Now then boys, betting boots at the ready! To quote a famous Australian paedophile, ‘Can you tell what it is yet………?’ :P
