I really like INTENSE RAFFLES 33/1. Very reliant on softer conditions but I’m hopeful he’ll get those. If he gets out in the lead, I can see him dominating.
January 18, 2026 at 14:44 #1750953Usually a big Antepost Race for me, and certainly one of my top ten betting races of the year, but more cautious this term
Three standouts for me, but already have other prizes in mind
Pied Piper – National Hunt Chase
Quai De Bourbon – Grand National
Shanbally Kid – Irish NationalShanbally the one I’m likely to bet, but might as well wait now, and missed the 33’s anyway. I’m convinced he wins a big one, and he’s one of the best handicapped horses in training
Seansible head on, and it will be either High Class Hero or Spindleberry to go with Shanbally, while Will Do looks an interesting outsider
Shortlist
High Class Hero
Shanbally Kid
Spindleberry
Will DoFinal Decs
Decided to go with Captain Cody over High Class Hero, but not an easy decision.
I’ve stuck with Will Do as planned as the outsider. Be a hard one to take if Pied Piper does it, while I’m increasingly fixed on Shanbally Kid for Fairyhouse. I may add one of them on the day, but two at the moment
Captain Cody 8’s
January 18, 2026 at 14:52 #1750957Jordans is a horse I have on my shortlist for valuable handicaps this season. May need better ground, but willing to chance him e/w at 16s.
January 20, 2026 at 09:55 #1751099Kicking myself for waiting just too long and the boards were wiped. I was to
take the 16/1 on Spindleberry but it looks when they open again it’s liable
to be down to 10s. I’ll still take it but Nonetheless kicking myself. She’s
carrying the weight, although she normally does, but I think there’s a touch
of class about her. I know the owner wanted her entered in the Gold Cup and
Mullins thought there wasn’t much of a chance and that she’d go for the mare’s
race, but seems the owner has got his way and she has an entry for the GC although
I think it’s unlikely she will appear in it.Spindleberry (at the best price I can get when the book opens again)
January 20, 2026 at 10:37 #1751100Spindleberry may not run Patrick Mullins said the other day.
January 20, 2026 at 10:57 #1751103Just noticed Mike that she is now not in the line up, as of just a few minutes ago.
Maybe just as well I didn’t get my ante post 16/1
January 20, 2026 at 11:03 #1751105Seems a bit like a Mullins V Elliot show. Mullins has 6 entered
and Elliot has 5. That’s nearly 2/3 of the field.January 20, 2026 at 13:53 #1751116Will Do looked all over the winner when he ran out of
steam over the last at Fairyhouse and was nabbed on the line
by one of JP’s, Better Times Ahead who went up 9lbs for that
Will Do is now 4 lbs better off with Better Times Ahead, who
is 6/1. Elliot has put up a reasonable apprentice who takes
off another 5lbs. I don’t see why the gap in price, and Will
Do may have ran out of puff after the last, but that was over
3m 6f. The 3m 1F should suit just right.Will Do 25/1 Paddy Power
January 20, 2026 at 14:48 #1751127Captain Cody 7-1 ew 6 places
Townend presumably had the choice so he’s my pick.
January 20, 2026 at 18:41 #1751152Now Is The Hour 11/1 win only
Beaufort Scale 50/1 each way, 6 places
January 21, 2026 at 11:32 #1751182Spanish Harlem for me, 31s ew. Only 4lb higher (allowing for claim) than for winning Kerry National easily.
January 21, 2026 at 13:38 #1751186Under threat – current going is Heavy. They’ve had more rain than forecast.
Inspection at 16.30 today.
January 21, 2026 at 13:44 #1751187Still belting down now not stopped since about 5 last evening
🤣Sorry wrong threadJanuary 21, 2026 at 23:54 #1751218Intense Raffles now 8/1 oldwater1984 so well done with your 33/1, he will certainly love conditions.
I’ve just put my £10 freebet on him EW tonight and hope he comes home as he’s in my Ten To Follow and my luck needs to bounce back as had a few hit the bar lately.
Hope he can dominate the race and win this.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 22, 2026 at 09:28 #1751226Now is the hour 11s – win
High class hero – 16s win – purely because it loves heavy and has the master at judging pace in the saddle
Pied Piper- 33s ewtoo many selections probably but prices seem right to me
January 22, 2026 at 09:37 #1751227Willie on his horses’ prospects today…
“High Class Hero (Danny) is burdened with top-weight and this ground is a slight concern as he would prefer a drier surface.
Quai De Bourbon (Brian Hayes) likes this track but needs to leave his last run at Navan behind if he is to be competitive.
Captain Cody (Paul) has a fantastic chance. He will come on from his run at Leopardstown over Christmas and hopefully he can land the biggest race run at our local track.
Spanish Harlem (Sean Cleary-Farrell) would prefer better ground but his rider’s 7lb claim is a big plus.
Shanbally Kid (Sean O’Keeffe) was disappointing at Leopardstown last time but will relish this trip.”
January 22, 2026 at 13:21 #1751234Not getting stuck in properly, but Search For Glory won’t be hindered by the going and is in good form, so I’ll chuck a dart at him.
