That result is puzzling.
Breton Rock is a thoroughly exposed horse, yet seems to have improved. Came from way back and you might think the leaders have gone too fast, but Home Of The Brave front run and he finished second. Suedois tracked pace – third and Limato tracked pace – fourth. My main bets, Home Of The Brave, Suedois and Limato (and Jungle Cat) all beaten by a 50/1 shot.
Anyone got a gun?
Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2017 at 15:18 #1312236I didn’t see that coming, but great ride by Andrea Atzeni. Librisa Breeze
looked to be travelling well, but had nowhere to go. It’s a pity, he’s
talented but he’s going to be hard to win with with his style of running. Can’t understand why hold up horses don’t come wide, it’s no disadvantage in being towards the centre. Part of Librissa Breeze’s problem is his jockey insists on riding for luck. Looks good when it pays off, doesn’t often pay off at Goodwood.
Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2017 at 15:19 #1312237Looking back at the race again, Limato was clearly at least 1/4 length in front with about 120 yards to go and looked to tire, eventually finishing 4th. Perhaps he needs 6 furlongs more these days?
August 1, 2017 at 15:22 #1312238Huge thank you to Ken Pitterson [sp] on W Hill racing radio who said just before the race how well the winner looked so I put my usual 2pence ew on it!
Glad someone did Mo, well done.
I’ve met Ken and he’s a top paddock judge.Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2017 at 15:24 #1312239Anyone got a gun?

Yes but I’ve got first use of it. Backed Breton Rock all season

For a horse who’s effective from 5f to 7f – should have more speed than any of these – I was surprised Bently went for home so soon. Why make it even more of a stamina test?
Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2017 at 15:29 #1312242I have a few systems [now I’m retired I can do this!]. Have oddschecker up so I can look out for last minute steamers, with WHill racing radio on [because they’re such fun to listen to if nothing else]. However, I’ve only just realised that the computer is about a minute or so behind the actual race which is a bit frustrating if I try to put a last minute bet on. There have been some big priced steamers at Galway thus far. I do envy people that can look at horses and know if they look well or not. Mind you, he did say he’d never seen Limato look better…thankfully my 2penny bets rule out short priced runners!

Lol, he may have a point LS, but he’s going to pop up in a big one for sure. I just
hope I haven’t given up on him before he does.August 1, 2017 at 15:30 #1312244Well done anyone who found that (I don’t think anyone did) but if you did, ask for a formbook for Christmas.
The ground may have stopped Limato from winning in the end or maybe he’s just regressive. Plenty of hard luck stories – Acclaim, So Beloved & Librisa Breeze all hard done by.
That’s a good point actually Charles. May be they did go too fast early, may be most of the hold up horses would’ve finished in front of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th had they been able to get through. That would explain Breton Rock (out wide) winning, last to first.

Yes I feel your pain Homer, he’s one of those horses you have to follow blindly in every race and David Simcock is a Master of the big price turnup.
Well done Mo for taking up the paddock tip for Breton Rock

No excuses for Limato he had every chance.
Just seen Stradivarius coming out for the Goodwood Cup he looks amazing
Today anything can happen..Jac

I think between us we’ve managed to dissect that race and come up with the ’cause of death’ so to speak.
Head of the nail = hit.

That’s a fair point Ginger, Winston lost him a few lengths at the start by making sure he got
round the back and into the rail. I don’t want to be an armchair jockey, but I thought he
could have tucked in without putting him into the hardest place to get out of. As you said, it
looks impressive when he gets a clear passage and storms through them, but keeping a few wide
off the rail and in behind them might have given him a few options and possibly a better chance.August 1, 2017 at 16:30 #1312259Anyone got a gun?

Well done Jac. I’m guessing Thechildren’strust also looked well in the paddock
August 1, 2017 at 17:04 #1312264Breton Rock ran well enough in the Lockinge to suggest he is capable, told Joni that on the day
not that I backed him or even gave him a moments notice, today, mind youGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
August 1, 2017 at 18:14 #1312278Sigh. This race was a massive hole. Breton came like Usain Bolt in the last furlong. whatever.

More like Mo Farah, Viktors. Staying on as others wilted.
Value Is EverythingAugust 1, 2017 at 18:38 #1312283Thought it was a shocking ride on librisa breeze, hadnt a penny on, but the dash for the rail cost him atleast a free passage which was all that breton rock needed, wether librisa breeze would have won or not im not sure, but the horse wasnt given the chance atall,
Dont get that ride atall, horse finished the race after only a half effort due to constant traffic causes by switching to the rail
