I think that 25-1 is a great ew price for Bravemansgame here. Admittedly he looks on the downgrade, but I’m happy to have him in this
December 18, 2024 at 08:22 #1715631I’m agreeing with you here as well Jeff, + Bravemansgame is my call at 25-1 ew
December 19, 2024 at 10:46 #1715685Il Est Francais shortening in the market. Maybe my antpost bet isn’t completely lost yet.
December 20, 2024 at 13:39 #1715746What price would Fact To File be if he would’ve run here? 2/1? 6/4?
…And yet the horse he beat by only half a length in the John Durkan (with Gallopin Des and Fastorslow in behind) is currently available @ 5/1.Spillane’s Tower did not go to Cheltenham last year and it’s possible he’s better right-handed. A sharp track at 3m may also play to his strengths because he has Grade 1, 2 1/2 mile speed. The one thing connections do want is at least some give – which many here are in the same boat. His supplementary imo makes it more likely he’ll turn up. Racing manager says he still needs “soft” somewhere in the going title. There are a few dry days forecast before Boxing Day, but I suspect if necessary they’ll water to produce (at least officially) “Good, Good-Soft in places”.
Value Is EverythingDecember 20, 2024 at 13:51 #1715748Spillane’s Tower
Ill Est FrancaisVF x
December 20, 2024 at 16:54 #1715800A bumper entry and here’s hoping we get the first double digit field since 2018. Indeed it could beat the record of 13 for this century from 2004 and 2009 . Three French entries make it really interesting and reminds of the halcyon period from 1987-1994 when les Francais won it 4 times in 8 years.
No stand out superstars but three young horses with potential to be , in Il est Francais, Grey Dawning and Spillane’s Tower. Very hard to pick a winner too. Il Est Francais seems to be like Auguste Rodin , a talented thinker who some days just doesn’t fancy it. Venetia is in flying form and I’ve always been a big fan of this horse, so I’ll chance an each way on L’Homme Presse. It may not have Galopin or Fact to File but it looks like a real Christmas cracker.December 20, 2024 at 17:16 #1715805It wasn’t that Il Est Francais “didn’t fancy it”, BHL. He had a pulmonary haemorrhage (broke a blood vessel in the lungs) last time out… And ran as though doing the same in April – going well for much of the way before being quickly beaten. So a valid excuse those two starts. However, 2 of his last 3 starts have ended in disappointment. So whether the same is going to happen to him again… And / or the chance of not recovering in time for Boxing Day… And / or whether he’ll ever be as good as his best again… And can he improve on that best?… And does he need to dominate from the front (with other front runners in the field)? Are all imo possible negatives for his chance. He could be going very well at home only for things to go wrong under intense physical exercise.
I loved the way he won the novice chase here last year. Rightly made favourite after that. But with what’s happened since imo Il Est Francais is an awful price.
Value Is EverythingDecember 20, 2024 at 17:20 #1715806I’ve had to have more on Ahoy Senor, even though he’s entered at Wetherby. I’ve taken 125’s ew
December 20, 2024 at 20:54 #1715821Was he worth a bet at 14’s or 10’s though Ginger?
Particularly when it became apparent a lot of the potential Irish chippendales were heading over!?
He was terrific each way value then in my opinion.
December 20, 2024 at 22:12 #1715839Eezer, I’ll have to join you with an ew on Ahoy Senor at 125-1. He may be off the boil, but he’s still the highest rated.
I was almost for Spillanes Tower as the sensible bet, but with enough encouragement for me from Newbury I’ve just decided to go with Juntos Ganamos on the day too
I’ll hopefully get a run for my dough on Thursday, after my Protektorat bet
December 21, 2024 at 17:57 #1716016Royal Pagaille won’t go but Venetia confirmed LhP to run.
Amazingly, given my haste to cash out my 25/1 for Grey Dawning, I’m actually in a really healthy position now ante post. I backed both l’homme and IEF each way at double figure odds weeks ago.
Could have been much better though still
December 21, 2024 at 19:32 #1716024My earlier anteposts where on Grey Dawning, and aldo L’Homme Presse earlier in week to TC

December 21, 2024 at 23:49 #1716048Am I the only one underwhelmed by this , I’ll have to tickle Bravemansgame but I’m honestly amazed Mullins isn’t going to even send the b squad over for this
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 22, 2024 at 13:12 #1716063I said this last week:
“L’Homme Presse’s excellent first time out record certainly needs to be taken into consideration, but so does his record of jumping out to the left. Don’t get me wrong, he has put up some good performances right-handed. Just that imo he’s more consistent the other way around”.However, “Value Is Everything”:
He was around 10/1 last week and @ 14/1 now, I believe it’s worth risking right-handed will be ok for L’Homme Presse.
Value Is EverythingDecember 22, 2024 at 14:06 #1716065I agree with LHP as the most appealing of the home contingent, and I’ve taken 14/1
I’m wanting to bet Hewick too, and I will, but I couldn’t consider him until he is declared
December 22, 2024 at 21:46 #1716090Very tempted by Hewick (again); i backed him in last year’s KG.
The ground should be right up his street, but his last win was…..in this race 12 months ago.A top priced 20s with 365, as i write this.
December 23, 2024 at 05:40 #1716095All of the last 12 winners had run that season which would be a negative for LHP, as well as his tendency to jump left.
