The Real Whacker for me.
Grounds perfect for him and he was way overpriced all week.
16/1 w/o 2 favs and 25/1 win.
I might add Grey Dawning or Banbridge as a backup.
December 26, 2024 at 14:31 #1716388Backed The Real Whacker at 22s EW and BMG at 16s also EW.
Juantos Ganamos represents top G1 form in France.December 26, 2024 at 14:37 #1716391Get in!

Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2024 at 14:39 #1716393Well done winners. It was quite a race with Il Est Francais going ten clear at the third last and Townend still not panicking on Banbridge.
December 26, 2024 at 14:40 #1716394Great ride from Townend to go get him as nothing else was able to get near the runner up
December 26, 2024 at 14:41 #1716395I was swearing about the stupid jockeys who allowed the leader to go clear without having to do overly strong fractions.
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2024 at 14:42 #1716396WD winners. O’Brien had said this was the target since May so fair play.
I feel for any who backed the french horse though as he was superb.
December 26, 2024 at 14:44 #1716397Brilliant VtC, well done and also anyone else on. Great ride from Townend and what a good horse.
Il Est Francais really put on a show, it was worth them coming over. I hope more French horses have a go in the coming years.December 26, 2024 at 14:47 #1716398Phenominal VTC, very well done with the 40/1!
December 26, 2024 at 14:51 #1716399Ta all. wd winners.
Grey Dawning wasn’t over the Betfair Chase. It was going to be hard.
LHP didnt win on seasonal debut in a King George. It was going to be hard.
December 26, 2024 at 14:52 #1716400Marvellous VTC, that’s a proper long range punt, just very well done
December 26, 2024 at 14:55 #1716402I am not entirely sure many of the other horses (especialy those leading the pack) were able to go any quicker to close that distance down, maybe they needed soft ground to slow the pace down somewhat.
IEF was breezing along on the bridle doing those mid 14s fractions and I would still be interested in seeing him dropped back in trip for something like the Ryanair or maybe even the QMCC.
Banbridge has the speed of a 2m4f chaser and even though he was far back he wasn’t struggling to go the pace at any stage – question now is do they go down the Gold Cup route, I am split as we all know many there are many great chasers that stayed 3m round Kempton but found 3m2f at Cheltenham beyond them.
They will probably have to give it a go to see if he does stay but I think he will face stronger stayers in the Gold Cup and I can’t see him winning it and don’t forget he is very much ground dependant to.
December 26, 2024 at 15:01 #1716403“Banbridge a real favourite of mine, and along with Janidil, they’re the pair I’m looking at at the moment.
Janidil not quoted, but I’ll happily have Banbridge just now at 40’s
Banbridge 40’s”
Brilliant tipping Vtc
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2024 at 15:02 #1716404Ryanair looks the right race for IEF if they go to Cheltenham.
Banbridge is so ground dependent he’s always a risk for antepost punters. He never impressed me up to now over shorter trips at the top table either by not being good enough or not running. I chanced him in this over 3 miles in case he needed it all along having got his ground. And he needed all of it to beat IEF today.
December 26, 2024 at 15:19 #1716405You’re right about those who chased IEF, LD.
The Real Whacker probably didn’t have the pace / not good enough / best left handed.
Bravemansgame just isn’t the same horse as he was when winning it a couple of years ago.
But Ruby was right in his mid-race comment – Charlie D should have pressed on LHP. He’s one that goes well racing prominently anyway… He was going well in mid-div. So going after IEF should not have been a problem for him.
Grey Dawning made a mistake at the first – racing further back than his usual style might have even caused that mistake. He too could have gone after the leader, but not in a position to do so. Whether he wanted to let himself down on that ground and / or wants a left handed course?
Paul Townend the obvious exception. Despite being on a mid-div / hold up horse managing to close the gap without any help.
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2024 at 15:24 #1716407Banbridge may have “needed” the whole trip to win. But imo it was still his speed that won the day to bridge that gap.
