Is Grey Dawning being aimed here?

    25’s looks huge to me.

He’s going Betfair Chase TC. Then it’s a wait and see.

    Thanks Mike.

Seems the right race for him to me.

Particularly given the Irish don’t always target it for whatever reason. Although Mullins has an embarrassment of riches so he could send one of his lesser lights and still have a strong hand in it.

Dan Skelton said at Aintree today he’d like to run Grey Dawning in the Charlie hall next week if the grounds suitable (i.e needs rain between now and then)

Is this with an eye on the king George do we think? Just the 4 weeks between the betfair (often massively attritional) and the king George. Would make more sense in terms of race schedule to my mind!

I don’t think so. The Charlie Hall followed by the Betfair Chase has been the plan for the horse up to now.

Whilst I don’t necessarily doubt what what you say here Mike (seeing as there’s no prices involved) you never stated that in your post a week or so ago.

And it seems a stretch to me. Nicholls said as much when he ran BMG in all 3 last season.

Charlie Hall followed by KG would be much easier on the horse and just makes more sense time scale wise. I guess we’ll wait and see. He also gave Grey Dawning the option of the Colin Parker the following day.

Do you think Willie will send Gaelic Warrior over?

    Who knows.

He’ll send something over. It won’t be GDC

My guess is Gaelic Warrior or Capodanno. Possibly il etat temps. Although I’ve got a suspicion he may send him down the stayers hurdle route.

I don’t think Grey Dawning will go for the King George after the Betfair Chase myself. Skelton don’t mind running one in the Cheltenham race end of January so he might let the horse wait for that.

Willie has said that the King George is an option.

Not sure that would be the case personally Mike.

Charlie hall followed by a 140k winners pot or betfair chase on a ploughed field followed by what I’m presuming your saying to run in the Cotswold chase at the end of jan for half that  :negative:

If Grey Dawning doesn’t run in the Charlie Hall that would bring the King George more into the equation as I don’t know if a) they would find another prep race in time or b) they would go to the Betfair Chase without a run.

Grey Dawning’s last 5 starts have all come left-handed.
Although has won right-handed over hurdles, his only Chase start going that way around was when only 3rd on Exeter debut.

25/1 might seem value, but the odds are probably all about likelihood of running.

There are ‘will he or won’t he run’ question marks over a lot of those at the top of the market. One who is sure to run, injury permitting, is Bravemansgame. This will be his 3rd King George having won on his first attempt and was second last year after a terrible prep. Running him in the Charlie Hall, Betfair Chase and King George in such close proximity ruined the rest of his season which is why he’s being overlooked. That won’t happen again this year. Assuming he’s not been scarred for life, 20/1 is a very fair price in my book. I’d be almost sure he’ll be in the 3.

The prep runs BMG had were not of Nicolls doing, it was the owner insisting on running him.

Yes I know Landafar. Won’t happen again though, surely?

That may have damaged BMG for the future, so I doubt it would happen again.
