New Approach looks like running after being included in the 6 day entry stage. Should be a very good race if he is fit against Duke Of Marmalade. Red Rock Canyon is included aswell in his usual pace maker role.
Who is everyone on then?
August 13, 2008 at 15:06 #176892Will New Approach run? I wonder. I would guess JB (and the Sheikh of course) would only run him if he were fit, so I wouldn’t worry too much on that score.
If New Approach does not run, is there anything in this field to seriously challenge the Duke??????
Shame about Red Rock Canyon having to be the bridesmaid again – I guess (after the dodgy pacemaking in the Sussex) he wants to rely on a classy and proven pacemaker.Very disappointed not to see Famous Name entered.
I reckoned him to have a lively chance and had thought that he had been laid out for this race since the Prix du Jockey Club. Does anyone know why he’s not entered? Weld’s stable in good form – hope Famous Name isn’t injured.August 13, 2008 at 15:09 #176894If New Approach dosnt run, The Duke will win this in a canter and go off a very very short price as i cant see anything else that will challenge him. Just hope NA runs to give the race a bit of spice.
August 13, 2008 at 16:31 #176904For what it’s worth, I’ve never really bought this "Duke is a vastly improved horse this year " story – more that he’s been beating up on relatively weak opposition – and suspect that the King George was more a case of Papal Bull pulling himself up when he hit the front rather than Duke fighting back .
As for the International , if New Approach shows , this represents by far the stiffest challenge DOM will have faced this year, imho, and the only way I’d back him (DOM) is if the going is fast ( the memory of NA struggling on quick ground at the Curragh is still fresh in my mind). I believe York is currently on the soft side .
August 13, 2008 at 16:50 #176907Offering some alternative to New Approach as a challenger, if Lush Lashes turns up she’ll receive 11 lb from the Duke, and surely that will be enough to make him at least break out of a canter?
August 13, 2008 at 16:54 #176908endorsement of the Duke you would back him if the ground was not too soft even against New Approach? A bit of a mixed message there, it seems to me.
August 13, 2008 at 17:13 #176913Not sure how anyone can say the duke has not improved this yr.In all 4 of his runs he has soon improvement and will probaly continue to do so.If you watch the KG he is just playing about once he hits the front, his jockey didnt even go for him till papal bull pulled up beside him.
August 13, 2008 at 18:16 #176918What odds is new approach to win by more than 2 lengths? If lines up and is back in form he’ll be taking a 130 horse to school IMO.
August 13, 2008 at 18:33 #176920Fascinating to see New Approach as a contender for this. Fingers crossed he turns up.

Given that this amounts to weight-for-age plus the sex allowance I suppose it depends on what their relative merits are as racehorses.
August 13, 2008 at 22:07 #176930Lush Lashes merits are hardly questionable. She has enough clas than do more than shake up the Duke.
IMHO if New Approach turns up he will win if Lush Lashes runs but the former does not then she must be worth a spoting bet to turn over this would be champion. Like Clint I can’t buy DOM has improved into a wonder horse.
He met with a moderate horse by classic standards last time out and all but got beat.
In actually like DOM but New Approach gave me hte immpression in the Derby he could be very speial
Anywy life goes ion
August 13, 2008 at 22:13 #176932With Moonstone out, surely Lush Lashes is nailed on to run in (and win) the Yorkshire Oaks with New Approach a possible for the Juddmonte. If the horse is straight then Bolger would be mad to miss this as there’s only one other horse who can possibly win in what can only be viewed as a mediocre list of entries.
August 13, 2008 at 22:18 #176934I’m hoping Lush Lashes turns up in the Yorkshire Oaks. With her Goodwood run still fresh in the mind, but over a trip which may stretch her on ground that may be too soft, she should help make the market for an Oaks winner with no question marks at all against her.
August 13, 2008 at 22:39 #176938The Irish trainers love to win the Irish Champion Stakes and as he missed out on the Curragh I have a feeling NA will wait for Leopardstown and then the Arc.
August 13, 2008 at 22:51 #176940New Approach is 6-1 with ladbrokes, surely he can’t be running, that would be the steal of the century. I generally find that horses who can get 1m4f quite well have a good record in the international, and new approach wasnt acting at all in the irish guineas on good-firm, which the irish champion can throw up often enough. If new approach was to go for the arc then the international would give him that bit longer to prep for a crack aswell.
Who knows what jim bolger is thinking though, he likes the surprise approach.

My feelings exactly. With a bit of give and a decent pace Look Here will be very hard to beat… The opposition and her trainer should help to create decent odds against her.
Bet of the week for me.
August 14, 2008 at 08:03 #176956Look Here is 5/2 for the Yorkshire Oaks with Blue Square.
