I’m very glad to read the servant is doing everything the master wants him to do.
But between Cheveley Park Stud and John Gosden I’d like to know who is more the servant. Jockey bookings will tell us exactly.

Maybe it’s my natural aversion to Gosden’s patrician manner, but offhand I couldn’t think of anything more condescending and patronising that all that “over the moon” guff.

Why would Dettori give a flying F what Gosden thinks about anything any more?

Gosden has treated Dettori like a servant – maybe, just maybe, Cheveley Park have reminded Gosden he’s THEIR servant.

And they want Inspiral to keep her regular jockey.

My thoughts exactly. What a supercilious arse. I hope Cheveley Park yank his chain good and hard. No doubt they will be comparing Gosden’s public words about Frankie with one of their other trainers’ (Haggas) gracious and sensitive handling of a talented young jockey after a losing ride on the big stage. The Elliott-> Mullins move showed that they are not afraid to remove horses from a good trainer.

Gosden’s remarks all through this also reflect badly on his son whose name is on the licence too and as such is/was Frankie’s employer also. If Thady is the future, he needs to get a grip on the reins, tell daddy to button it and talk to the press himself from now on. Will he be up to sailing the ship or will he turn out to be a chinless wonder, product of an overbearing father? Time will tell.

    Note this quote in particular:

“You know what it is all about. I need a jockey that focuses. It can’t be a part-time job.”

Gosh, maybe those of us who pointed out Dettori has not been riding enough were not talking rubbish (or words to that effect) after all. Fancy that!

Gosden has made a point of saying it’s his decision that Dettori rides Emily Upjohn, which makes me even more doubtful that it is.

I don’t expect to see Dettori on Stradivarius again, but this doesn’t surprise me and last-minute news he rides Inspiral on Friday before dashing off to Heathrow wouldn’t surprise me either.

Dettori hasn’t put a foot wrong on Inspiral and I don’t think he was at fault on Emily Upjohn in the Oaks either.

It doesn’t, of course, matter what I think.

But I’m not sure it matters THAT much what Gosden thinks either.

The owners pay the bills – if they want Dettori, they’ll get him.

Just call me Mystic Meg – actually don’t, just don’t.

“Clairvoyant Chezza” has a better ring to it.

Dettori booked to ride Mighty Ulysses at Newmarket tomorrow.

That sabbatical did not last very long. ;-)

I’ve probably bored everyone to death (again!) with my view on this but I honestly think Gosden has annoyed a few of his owners over this.

Dettori has definitely never done anything wrong on Inspiral, it’s arguable he’s done little wrong on Emily Upjohn and Mighty Ulysses either.

It probably wasn’t a smart move to blame his Gold Cup ride on the horse, but the public criticism of him by owner and trainer was out of order.

I honestly suspect Cheveley Park and the other owners here have told Gosden they were poised to suffer from a spat they weren’t involved in so Gosden, to save face, claimed to the media he was giving Dettori a second chance.

He’s said “it was my decision” about three times this week and tbh the more he said it the more I doubted it was.

Must admit that if I could afford a horse good enough to enter in the big races I would like to see Dettori riding it and if he was associated with a trainer that didn’t want him to ride it, I would not hesitate to take the horse away.
Not sure where I would send it though!

Purwell, agree with you. I’m pretty much old fashioned and Sir Michael might be my very first choice. Doubt he’d even look at me…..

Yes that was my first thought but I think possibly William Haggas?

To return to the story with Stradivarius, I wonder if he has his own ideas about the game now, remember he is an entire.

You certainly sound old fashioned – referring to Stoute by his outdated pointless title, thinking a bloke you’d be offering to pay 15 grand a year to to train your horse wouldn’t even look at you, could all that be any more deferential?

Ian, I doubt that anyone who trains for the Queen would want to have me aboard, no matter how much I would spend on a horse.
Probably I’d have to choose between Amy Murphy and Tony Carroll….

Dettori is no Angel but, for me, he’s still the one showing the quality here: https://www.racingpost.com/news/race-reports/frankies-back-dettori-and-mighty-ulysses-land-at-newmarket-for-the-gosdens/566777
