Agree. It was a strange thing to announce. Now if he rides a bad race, he is going to get lots of criticism along the lines of “he should have retired right away”. It has created unnecessary pressure.
I suppose the chance to milk his “farewell tour” was just too tempting (for him and ITV Racing).
I’d say Tonge has just about called it spot on.

I bet Mr. Gosden would like to see the Italian fellow back on a few of his horses again.
It isn’t quite the season you would expect from him (or rather them), but he has yet to blame someone for that. Still, the numbers including the prize-money aren’t that bad.Just comparing prize-money earned in 2024:
Johnny and Thady have earned £3,068,716 so far in GB
Lanfranco has earned his owners at least twice as much in 2024. He was at around the £4 million mark some three months ago.I think Frankie got this one right….
