My mistake Cork. Chaldean always felt like a John Gosden trained horse….

No one (except Gladders) can pronounce his name right, a few here don’t seem to know who trains him, he unseats at the start of the Greenham – Dewhurst winner Chaldean is a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

    What’s next?

A TRF gamble on this John Gosden or Ralph Beckett (but never Andrew Balding) filly (who is actually a colt) for the 1,000 Guineas?

Is this jackass the same fellow that has won 21 British Classics, 7 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and 6 Prix de l’Arc de Triumphs?

I wouldn’t call him a jackass but every jockey has a sell by date
has Dettori reached his? well he is retiring soon..

I’m not one for pre retirement announcements for sportsmen/women.. a sign of weakness in my view and a strange mind set.

Agree. It was a strange thing to announce. Now if he rides a bad race, he is going to get lots of criticism along the lines of “he should have retired right away”. It has created unnecessary pressure.

I suppose the chance to milk his “farewell tour” was just too tempting (for him and ITV Racing).

I’d say Tonge has just about called it spot on.

Not necessarily, wouldn’t have considered AP McCoy weak and thought it worked very well for him.

More a sign of sensing a commercial opportunity, I’d say.

How many “farewell tours” have Status Quo done!!!

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highways

Frankie and the media will certainly cream everything out of it
and then when its finally all over …. Frankie will rock up on ITV racing as part of the presenting team week in, week out

On McCoy I got the impression he may have continued but after all the documentary, weekly fawning and his Wife likely to kill him probably thought better of it..

Mr Dettori rode the winner of the Italian 2000 Guineas today. Can he double up on Chaldean on Saturday? Assuming he can stay on board. 😉

I bet Mr. Gosden would like to see the Italian fellow back on a few of his horses again.
It isn’t quite the season you would expect from him (or rather them), but he has yet to blame someone for that. Still, the numbers including the prize-money aren’t that bad.

Just comparing prize-money earned in 2024:

Johnny and Thady have earned £3,068,716 so far in GB
Lanfranco has earned his owners at least twice as much in 2024. He was at around the £4 million mark some three months ago.

I think Frankie got this one right….

    He’s currently at $10.6M for 2024, from 355 rides and 62 winners.

Thanks for the update, Alan. He seems completely relaxed as if there is no pressure at all on him.
Of course the higher prize-money puts him in that category, but you still have to earn that much and a 17% strike-rate is quite in the US.
