I don’t see why an advert encouraging people to go racing as a good summer social day out is at all wrong, CAS. That’s all the advert is.
Not everybody that goes racing needs to be a died in the XXXX “racing enthusiast”.
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2022 at 18:04 #1603860But as has been pointed out Ginger, it is at odd with reality.
You will almost certainly not see a non white female jockey.
You will not get food that looks like it does in the advert, unless you pay to go into the premier enclosure at one of the large tracks.
Your children will almost certainly not be allowed to play football by the parade ring.
The fellow in the suit will almost certainly be with a group of his mates, shouting noisily and getting hammered. And no official on the track will do anything about them because they are putting plenty of money behind the bar.
The advert makes only the briefest mention of betting. The main reason the public is interested in racing.
It is just the latest well intentioned advert to appeal to people who are not interested in racing.
June 24, 2022 at 18:23 #1603869“encouraging people to go racing as a good summer social day out”
GT writes as if this is a groundbreaking concept.
Racecourse marketeers started turning a day at the races into a themed alfresco booze up and after racing music rave YEARS ago.
As repeatedly stated, racecourses – especially on Saturday afternoons – are already packed with young adults.
Where racing is losing out is that the percentage of racegoers who not only bet on their phone but don’t bet at all is IMO rising.
That’s a problem because the sport is Levy dependant.
Marketing a day at the races without extolling the interactive virtues of having a flutter on what you’re watching is a very dangerous path IMO.

I don’t see any such thing in this advert.
I’ll have another look…
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2022 at 18:38 #1603876Nope, but why stick to the facts eh Ian?
Just marketing a normal day at the races as a good summer social day out.
How dare they!Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2022 at 18:58 #1603882Marketing a day at the races without extolling the interactive virtues of having a flutter on what you’re watching is a very dangerous path IMO.

How is it a “dangerous path?
Did you miss…“Win
Or lose
beats the winter blues”For a good summer social day out betting is not and should not be everything.
Mention it yes, but don’t want to put people off having a good summer social day out by going OTT about betting.Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2022 at 19:04 #1603884I do think they could’ve made more of the horse but apart from that seems fine to me.
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2022 at 19:44 #1603890“I do think they could’ve made more of the horse.”
To be fair, we did see the backsides of a few of them galloping off into the distance.
June 24, 2022 at 19:48 #1603892And while I will admit to not being a dedicated follower of fashion, what was the difference between the dressed up and dressed down look?

I think women are more interested in getting dressed up for a day at the races than men. But apart from Jenas making his way past a few dressed up women to get to his seat, they hardly featured at all.
June 24, 2022 at 19:56 #1603896‘To get to his seat’
How often does Joe public get a seat at the races?
June 24, 2022 at 23:47 #1603928What an embarrasing cringefest, who the hell comes up with this [insert expletive].
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
June 25, 2022 at 06:19 #1603947A young graduate, no doubt.
Yeah! you’re right I’m old and don’t have a degree.
June 25, 2022 at 06:47 #1603948Nothing wrong with being young, nothing wrong with being a graduate.
But over the years I’ve noticed a lot of rehashed ideas from the past passed off as innovation.
Young marketeers either oblivious to what’s been tried before or copying it.
The most remarkable thing about this advert and thread is that it’s not a campaign being embarked upon at the dawn of trying to broaden racing’s appeal.
Themed race days, music after racing, racecourses have been targeting a broader, younger, casual audience for many years now.
I see nothing remotely new in this campaign.
That’s why I think it’s bombing a crater.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 25, 2022 at 07:26 #1603954Be fair, it is up to 2 likes on YouTube now.
June 25, 2022 at 08:02 #1603958There should be an alternative advert.
It would say something like “Want to have a day at the races? It only costs £27 plus a £3 fulfilment fee. And you get to see a maiden, a novice and four ordinary handicaps.
There’s always great food. Only £10 for fish and chips. And if you want a pint, it is only £7. Bargain!!
And you can get to spend the day in the company of aggressive lads who are either cokeheads or pissheads, and a group of overdressed girls who screech hysterically after a glass of prosecco. Because they are the people racing really wants.
Oh, and at least 90% of the jockeys you see will be white men.
You can even look at these things called horses if you have the time.
You can have a bet if you really insist but try not to tell anyone about it.”
June 25, 2022 at 08:31 #1603965Why would anyone go Racing, eh?
Value Is EverythingJune 25, 2022 at 08:33 #1603966Animal Aid, who needs Animal Aid.
CAS and Chezza will do the job for them.
