You tell the unconvinced mob.[self edit]

Daylight and Mac the new believer have never accepted that the lounge is the sense of all reason and the brain centre where from emanates and rocks the whole of the babble in here. It is the true source and Davvid is one of its main
waterfalls often referred to as the everlasting tap.

    “It’s ITV1 on Saturday Ian.

And for those people who love to see Mullins odds on shots winning by twenty lengths ITV will be covering Leopardstown and Musselburgh on Sunday.”

Thank you, patriot1 – I hadn’t looked any further ahead than Saturday.

“I’m never quite sure when he is serious or not”

I’m often not entirely sure myself, Purwell!

Most of what I write is tongue in cheek and little of it is to be taken literally.

Thank you to you, too for your kind and positive words.

I will admit to being a little taken aback on Sunday morning, but every cloud has a silver lining and it’s nice to read so many positive comments from those I regularly interact with who have clearly long since figured out what I’m all about.

    Ian
I’ve expressed my opinion in here that i like ITV racing coverage – it suits me.
    BUT
Even though your views may be different to mine i read your posts with joy and understand the difference of opinion, and it’s pretty obvious to me that some of your musings are tongue ‘n cheek, at times.
Keep posting in your own unique way, Sir. :good:

That’s a particularly kind and generous posting, Wilts, and one I greatly appreciate and indeed reciprocate.

I like to think that you and I are living examples of how people can agree to disagree on many things – even politics! – and yet never fall out and indeed enjoy each other’s contributions.

    Long may it continue.

I’m interested in this ‘racing radio’ that moehat mentions on page 93. Can someone enlighten me please? What am I missing?

On Sunday morning, home alone, I downloaded ITV’s coverage from Cheltenham from the previous day (I usually consume racing via the Sporting Life video replays) and thought it was quite good actually.

Also, what Wilts said three posts above. That.

I’ve rarely ventured into this dangerous sounding place they call “The Lounge”. I am not sure I would dare.

Very pleased to find that I am not alone in struggling to get up in time to catch the Morning Line (even though I have usually found it informative and entertaining on the odd times I HAVE managed to drag my carcass downstairs in time).

It’s on William Hill racing. I’m not sure if you can get it if you don’t have an account with them but I think you can. Either way I only top up my account every year or so and get racing radio and watch racing live. You have to have £1 bet to watch Irish racing. A lot of the people on it used to come to our racing club meetings so I love listening to them. Also chatted to a few of them last time we were at Kelso. During various lockdowns having racing radio start up again was a brilliant because I look on them as old friends. Ken Pitterson does his paddock picks. The pundits are very good. When there isn’t a lot of racing they’ll chat about other thing. Biscuits, vegan mayonnaise. Tom Morley ( who doesn’t seem to be on any more) used to talk about what he looked for in the horses he bought, what to look for in untraced horses: he got a lot of stick when he bought Arecibo the other year but he’s done him proud. There’s a lady called Maureen who phones in her tips, which are the stuff of legend. Unfortunately I have to point out to people that I’m not ‘that’ Maureen. It shows American racing at night. The late, great, John Budden used to be on it. I do miss him. My only problem is there’s a time lag and sometimes I try to put a last minute bet on but I can’t because the race has actually started.

When in-running betting was first introduced at Betfair Exchange in 2001, there were horror stories about punters betting on it based on William Hill internet commentaries, which had streaming delays of up to 45 seconds.’

It’s yet another subject I could “drone” on about but, unless you own a Drone (and I don’t mean a northern historian) or have access to live footage from one, it’s a medium best avoided as there will always be someone seeing what’s going on before you do.

Life in general is a bit like that for me. Everyone seems to know what is happening apart from me!

I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highways

When I was at Wolverhampton last year, I paid attention to when the stalls opened and then looked to the big screen. There is a very significant delay of a few seconds.

Tread very warily in the in running markets. Better still, avoid altogether.

Fair play to Megan Nicholls on RTV for being lukewarm about Hitman before the Denman Chase. She could easily just be a cheerleader for her father’s horses but remained objective.

I hadn’t realised how long it’s been since I last read this thread and sorry for being so late with my take on Crusty’s posting which covered a varied number of insights about ITV racing and it’s presenters.Although the one that caught my eye was that some some writing here considered the presenters as talking inferior drivel :yahoo:
In my opinion to call it ‘inferior drivel’ would elevate it to a higher state that it could possibly deserve and crediting those appearing with what in my day used to be called common sense.
    MUTE …MUTE …MUTE :good:

As Monty Python used to say,now for something completely different!
    (for Sir Chezza)

I wish to declare my indulgence in the noble game of chess.Inspired by one Robert Fischer, probably the games greatest ever exponent,I joined a local club.Perhaps I first should say I was taught at the age of 7 many years previously and like so many others played for my school but despite the urgings of the master that ran the school team didn’t follow it up to play at his club.Anyway once part of the the chess circuit in my heyday I played for two separate clubs in two different leagues,at the sharp end in both, also for my county and a postal team besides participating in tournaments. Not to put too fine a point on it played at more than a decent level.
    good luck to all

Chezza’s become a bit nervous about posting on this thread!

And having read all that Chezza would be even more nervous about playing Blackcountry Kid at chess!

Would Fischer in his prime have beaten Kasparov in his prime?

Guess we’ll never know for sure.

Chezza’s bet is both of them would have muted the ITV Racing coverage, though!

“Would Fischer in his prime have beaten Kasparov in his prime?”

Yes, I think he would. He once swept Mark Taimonov 6-0. Taimonov was considered a top player and observers were astonished he was beaten so heavily.

Taimonov was so unnerved by the experience that he never played chess competitively again.
