I think I can remember you met Jilly Cooper at the races Ian, you might have written that once before. I had no memory of the hug though and getting a hug from a relative stranger is something a bit special. I suppose she would describe herself as an earthy racey sort of gal…
I once had a dance with Zandra Rhodes and George Hamilton was watching us – not a close dance I might add and the champagne was more in control of my legs than my mind and I ended up on my backside. I got up but my pride was dented so It stopped talking about her teapots.

Just remembering my Grandmother’s television knob – it had 12 numbers and quite hard to turn the dial. She thought it wore the telly out if you turned it to number 6 (ITV) I believed that too – so no-one in the house turned it. We all watched the dark suits of BBC and were quite happy with our limited choice.

As ex media, I’m met all manner of famous people, gamble, and tbh I’ve never been impressed, or even much interested, in “celebrities.”

    But Jilly Cooper was different.

I’d always liked her, her book “Class” had had quite the effect on my father, and to actually meet her and tell her about it ten years after his death was quite something to me.

    One of life’s special moments.

Rarely watch it right through because im either at races or something better to do but cheltenham different of course

Whole programme today was top class. Good balance for all viewers and genuinely a good buzz amongst the team

there will always be quibbles but it could be far far worse.

“Still don’t know why Francesca is doing NH ?”

Still don’t know why Francesca is doing anything.

Here’s to nepotism: the cause of, but not necessarily solution to, all of life’s problems.

Easy on the eye? Tastes differ.

Definitely not easy on the ears.

She’s ok. I think her voice sounds fine… it doesn’t grate on me, I suppose tastes differ. I’d rather listen to her than Ed trying to shoehorn in flagwaving analogies to Eng-er-land kickball “iconic” sporting moments that I’ve never heard of. Apart from this and the usual “What a story it would be…” he was ok today mind you.

I hope Megan Nichols replaces Francesca on the team tomorrow so we can get the latest news on Bravesmansgame and the rest of the Nichols horses. No airs and graces with her and she gave a cracker of a tip on Saturday from the yard at 11/1. :good:

Is that the real Tony McCoy standing there or a cardboard cutout? I’m struggling to make up my mind, so I am.
I think they just dust him down and wheel him out for big race meetings.
Apart from that a good show :good:

Watched Against The Odds Desert Orchid on ITV 4 last night .. Interviews with the dream team along with Colin Brown, Simon Sherwood, Richard Dunwoody a very emotional Janice Coyle and David Ellsworth who wasn’t afraid to race Dessie over any distance throughout the season not shut him away for Cheltenham.
They show the race where Dessie carries topweight over 2 miles against Panto Prince and just gets up at the line and some great shots of ‘himself’ winning the King George, the Gold Cup and showing off at his open days..great times 💫💖 Jac

Agred HDLG..A day that will live on in racing history. Dessie was the Nation’s horse a pure ‘freak’ as they said but in the nicest way. :rose: Jac

It boggles the mind even more now, at what he did, and especially that 1988/89 season. 2m, 3m, Handicaps, Conditions races, etc Took everything on over all trips, and beat them all.
Someone will remember, but didn’t he usually start his season at Wincanton? The South West pattern chase? Late October? I recall a segment on either Sportsnight, or Grandstand.

That Against The Odds Program was great Triptych, really enjoyed it, had forgotten what a versatile superstar Dessie was, and some of his leaps were flamboyant to say the least! I was lucky enough to meet Dessie in October 2005, after going to Champions Day at Newmarket. A very special day, as had also backed David Junior after seeing him in the paddock and he won at 25-1 !

    Happy memories :rose:

Really enjoying Ruby’s analysis of tactics and jumping technique. They could just put him on all day with one other person interviewing connections, and it would be the perfect show.
