Being a bit lazy yesterday tuned in to see what’s happening with the prog.
It started off with Fitzgerald trashing Cyrname which continued every chance he had until the horse in question made a laughing stock of him.As quick a u-turn as you are ever likely to see he starts talking about it being a game of opinions.Without the slightest embarrassment as to his earlier ‘incisive expert opinion’ he continued as thought he never had any doubt as to the result.
What did he say at the opening?……”NO CHANCE”
While I know horses can make us look foolish in our comments Fitzgerald left no room for anything to happen and was quite emphatic that Cyrname couldn’t win which was also expressed by the village idiot because of a drift in price.
Please, please can we have someone with two brain cells to rub together on the show?
good luck to allNovember 1, 2020 at 15:11 #1508237Just too many presenters ‘with an opinion’. Just talk and talk and talk.
No prejudice here or anything, when they used to go over places like the Curragh etc, we used to be met with the voice of Michael O’Hare and another Irish racing presenter. It was great. Gave Irish racing that uniqueness. Now we have so many irish chaps on the microphone here, we have lost our identity a bit. I am sure when listening to Fitgerald, all I can hear is the words blarney, blarney, blarney. I am sure he says those words, that’s what it sounds like anyway!
All we need are a few presenters, not a cast of thousands, who sort of disagree with each other from time to time but have a bit of character about them as well.
November 1, 2020 at 15:26 #1508240I thought it was commentator Mark Johnson who gave Cyrname no chance yesterday he was adamant that he would not win..it even prompted an infuriated response from Megan Nichols on Twitter posting an Emoji of Johnson as an inflated bag of wind blowing steam.
The irony was that in the post race interview Paul Nichols wrongly blamed Matt Chapman for talking down his horses’ chance and nobody put him right. Chappers had actually sang the praises of Cyrname it was very unfair.
Mark Johnson you got away with that very lightly and hope you will be volunteering at the Nichols yard to muck out Cyrname’s stable to make amends for all the muck you spread about his chances.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 1, 2020 at 16:21 #1508249And, after he’s finished mucking out, he can learn to pronounce “Mai” correctly.
November 1, 2020 at 18:04 #1508262He just said he thought a horse would not win. What’s the big deal? He did not says Nicholls was a bad trainer.
No need for Paul and Megan Nicholls to be so touchy and petulant about it.
I said I did not fancy Cyrname on the Charlie Hall thread. I was wrong and am very happy to admit it.
Really, anyone would think nothing important was happening. Racing has far more important issues to worry about.
November 1, 2020 at 18:55 #1508269I think it was all instigated by Megan Nichols Cork and her band of followers on Twitter.
It really was no big deal just like yourself not fancying him on the Thread everyone has and is entitled to an opinion, it was just that Chappers got blamed for what Johnson said that needs putting right.
So that’s why Johnson is on mucking out duties until further notice.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 27, 2020 at 13:53 #1512276Not really keen on pundits pretending they are jockeys and talking through the commentary
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 28, 2020 at 07:59 #1512369I don’t care for it either. Are they going to do it whenever there is a small field?
Also irked by presenters referring to horses as “it”. Plunkett was even doing it when describing the runners in a mares race last week so it’s not as if she couldn’t have worked out the gender
November 28, 2020 at 08:25 #1512370The ex-jockeys talking through the three runner race was an interesting idea but would become VERY irritating if repeated.
I think it was an attempt to inject some interest into the race – which kind of supports the view that all these small runner fields are just (relatively) not very interesting, there can usually be a point of interest or two in them but racing needs to sort it out (and Kevin Blake’s most recent ATR article talks about the root of the issue) as it is unappealing viewing (in comparison with more competitive events) and hardly sells the sport.
Nothing must be more boring for a newcomer than watching three go round in more or less the same position for three miles.
Cormack15November 28, 2020 at 09:23 #1512381It’s simply not working, I don’t like it at all.
November 28, 2020 at 10:22 #1512387Well I supposed it spared us the monotone voice of Richard Hoiles in this instance!
Okay, it was an experiment, a first, but hopefully a last. Perhaps these three were told to earn their money! Really nice people but all I hear from Fitzgerald are the words blarney, blarney, blarney. I am sure he says them every now and again.Look, there are just too many presenters on ITV racing. Go on, there are over a dozen of them you can’t go anywhere on the track and fart without one of them hearing you.
December 6, 2020 at 15:39 #1513362Apart from cluttering up the screen, what is the point of the running clock that accompanies every race? The only time it’s of any possible use is at the end of the race but it is immediately removed when the winner has barely passed the winning post.
December 12, 2020 at 18:52 #1514049All is well Francesca is back.
Can ITV not afford her for a whole year?
December 19, 2020 at 09:50 #1514640Their poll this morning is asking for your favourite from a list of five King George winners, so I voted for Wayward Lad. Had the poll asked who would have won out of the quintet, I’d have voted for Arkle.
I just wonder if they will try to present the result (Dessie currently leading from Kauto) as some sort of reflection of the horses’ merit rather than of their popularity.
December 19, 2020 at 11:37 #1514661I’m guessing ITV4 must be picking up good ratings given that they showed Ascot yesterday are are covering Catterick, Leicester and Leopardstown on the 28th.
December 19, 2020 at 13:06 #1514681It’s also the opp to get live sport on TV
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 27, 2020 at 12:48 #15153711.4 million viewers yesterday, almost twice as many as last year. I know things are skewed with the lockdown but still excellent news.
