I’ve got used to the presenters now only because I tend to switch channels until the build up of each race happens then i switch back. I preferred the channel 4 lot. But I mute the TV when Richard Hoiles talks away from the commentary. His commentary is bad enough as it is (bring back Holt), but when he interviews or offers opinion on form lines i’m not just not interested in what he has to say – he is too boring. His job is and should be to commentate. Leave the rest to the other presenters imo.
September 14, 2020 at 14:17 #1501500I recorded racing from last Saturday and watched the races only this morning.
What caught my ear was the superior commentary on the Irish Champion Stakes, it made the race even more thrilling.
It was a proper commentary.Richard Hoiles take note. You need quality rather than a quantity of words for good commentary.
September 14, 2020 at 15:21 #1501509Agreed GSP the Irish commentary on the Flying Five yesterday was perfect almost as if the commentator had backed the winner himself (perhaps he did )
Richard Hoiles is very good but lacks emotion he”s a ‘slippers by the fire man’ as far as commentating goes and very monotone in his delivery, whereas the Irish commentator whips up the excitement level to a fury as the horses battle for the line.
Brilliant.

Tell me you’ve seen last year’s Paddy Power at Leopardstown.
October 10, 2020 at 14:51 #1505613Only one thing annoys me more about ITV racing, than Chapman,is when one of them goes onto the track and shoves a microphone under the jockey’s nose demanding a interview. While like other broadcasters they expect to talk to connections after a race I would like to see these on track interviews terminated as the first people the jockey should report to are the owner(s) & trainer.
The other week Chapman was almost wiped out when a horse quickly shifted around. While I wouldn’t consider him any great loss to racing the PR implications to ITV,the course & racing in general wouldn’t be good.Having a ITV member + cameraman milling around among horses is a recipe for something tragic to happen I do hope the powers that be put a stop to it.
good luck to allOctober 10, 2020 at 22:28 #1505679These post finish interviews are part of the demise of TV racing programmes. Just seems to be an excuse to employ Rishi or someone else. Let’s get as many people as we can on a programme! How many people do we see on ITV racing now, 10, 12.
Used to be two or three, that’s all you need.October 12, 2020 at 17:21 #1505829Agreed GSP and BlackcountryKid
Also do we really need Luke Harvey at the starting stalls talking to the jockeys when they just want a few quiet moments reflecting on their instructions and the race ahead.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 12, 2020 at 19:00 #1505840What’s the difference between racing and football where the man of the match is interviewed seconds after coming off the pitch, boxing where the Victor is grilled in the ring and tennis where the Wimbledon champion is spoken to seconds after winning?
October 12, 2020 at 20:18 #1505849Yes but watching interview after interview for many hours, who want’s more interviews. Leaves you bloomin exhausted.
Like Richard Hoiles commentaries, too many words, too little quality or no connection with the race. Just boring monotone without taking a breath. Now if they interviewed the horse, that’ll be different!
October 17, 2020 at 15:13 #1506463Hoiles. More interested in Palace Pier than the winner The Revenant.
Commentary all over the place with boring monotone.October 17, 2020 at 16:26 #1506510Watched a bit now & again during the day and I’m just amazed how much this lot can waffle and say nothing of any relevance.
Asking a jump jockey about stalls?
What’s the point of Fitzgerald at the start?
Weaver’s treated like all he says is gospel.
The entire show needs a make over with a completely different set of presenters.
good luck to allOctober 17, 2020 at 16:29 #1506514ITV missed a trick there, I was full sure they would have arranged a horseback snog for the cameras.
October 17, 2020 at 21:34 #1506556Please put Brough Scott back in his coffin. Every time I hear him speak I want to wipe the spittle from my glasses.
October 17, 2020 at 22:45 #1506566I had the racing on today while I was on my laptop. Usually I record and just watch the races.
The talking throughout was incessant, so many people, their payroll must cost hundreds if thousands.I was watching the video added by apracing the other day on Dextra Dove. The only voices I heard was Peter O’Sullivan and Dick Pitman, and that’s all you needed.
Just hearing the silky tones of Peter’s voice, some pauses during the race in the early stages (Hoiles, look and learn).October 18, 2020 at 00:00 #1506580O’Sullevan was like the emperor’s new clothes, he was incredibly overrated.
October 18, 2020 at 09:01 #1506593Sorry but the name legend comes in when O’Sullivan’s name is mentioned. He was such a fit with racing.
October 18, 2020 at 09:03 #1506595I would not go as far as to say he was incredibly overrated but he did outstay his welcome. He should have retired about a decade before he did.
Some of his commentaries towards the end were not up to standard and one or two were downright poor. I remember him commentating on a two mile race at Goodwood where he called the leader by the wrong name for about a mile and a half. Eventually someone must have plucked up the courage to tell him he was wrong!
