Given how closely matched fleeting and star Catcher are I’d think they’d have a good idea how magical would fare against her
September 14, 2019 at 19:46 #1454943She has had a long season, this will be her 7th group race since April. She needs a break and looking at the list of horses from Aiden who ran in this race and got beat then it could well be a permananent break to follow.
Potato, perhaps the request for a post race review from Mike was because of some of the comments above.
Telling a top trainer how to train + pretty much retiring a horse……..PS, i took her on too…

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!September 14, 2019 at 21:59 #1454957Well done all Magical backers, what a tough, consistent and genuine filly she is.

Elarqam never got out of first gear today and ran flat for some reason…£70,000 to supplement.. where does that actually go does anyone know?
Well done with having her as your star hprse.in Ginger’s 10 to follow competition Jack.. what a diamond
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 14, 2019 at 22:25 #1454959Well done Greenasgrass with the best call on the thread for Magical to win and the best bet on this entire thread an ew on Magic Wand at 28/1 which was actually a better paying bet ew compared to the win on the fav.
September 14, 2019 at 22:44 #1454962Sorry Green didn’t see your Magic Wand EW ..well done great tipping
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 15, 2019 at 17:19 #1455053Thanks potato and Trip. Hope Magic Wand sneaks a G1 win somewhere at some point
September 16, 2019 at 09:27 #1455143Well done Green, good tipping. Where do you think she’ll go next? 20/1 for next months Fillies and Mares, could be the Ballydoyle number 1, assuming Magical does the Arc/Breeders Cup route and skips this. She did all 3 last year, but had run only 3 times before that season, so I don’t think she’ll do all 3 this year.
As to the race, well it worked out for me pretty much as expected. Magical was in a different league to the others, which doesn’t say a lot for those in behind as they should’ve been a bit better than that really. AVD bounced in someway back to form to come in EW for me and now off to the Breeders Cup and probably staying in training next season which is great.
Madhmoon had a terrible run, either the Derby run looks very questionable/flukey now and he is just an average horse, or dare I say it, but maybe he’d be better with a trainer that isn’t 85 years old?! AVD proved in someway the Derby form isn’t terrible, if not great, so it is a question to answer why he can’t get back to that form.
Elarqam ran worse than I expected, but not a surprise he didn’t feature. That’s 2 bad runs in Ireland now and also he is not a Group 1 winner which is a big negative on the trends for this race. Both the last 2 races for him were slow and muddling paces and as I thought, he struggled in this one which (without seeing the fractions) looked quick, slow, quick.
Headman ran for me exactly as expected. It was a good run from him, he looked like he was going to threaten at one point, before his run petered out. But he simply had too much to do on form and the trends were very much against him. Definitely one to watch for next year though.
Deidre who I nearly fancied for an EW, flew home late and is definitely a bit better than she is given credit for. Not sure where she will go next though as she appears to want decent ground which she’s unlikely to get on Champions Day at Ascot.
Magical is very solid Group 1 performer for sure. 2/1 in the end, looked like a steel in that field, but she’s not top top class though and won’t give Enable much trouble in the Arc I don’t think.
September 24, 2019 at 01:45 #1462460Thanks Frenchy- I think Magic Wand will go wherever in the world has good ground. A wee rest (she’ll not know herself- with zis week off you are spoiling me Mr O’Brien) then breeders cup?
September 25, 2019 at 10:41 #1462595Magic wand is pounds better on quick ground. I’d imagine Aiden will want to try and keep the first three apart but can see them all going to the breeders cup and with Japan possibly going for the Cox plate then Hong Kong may be on both the second and thirds agenda.
