It was a long, long time ago, lost in the mists of time…. you’ll remember it Bill, you were about 14 years old then, that was in 1870…. December I think…. ;-)
It was a long time ago that I gave up using the mainstream press because they’re all “much of a muchness” and I wanted something different, so I edged towards a rating system called “Neurals”. I found a reasonable amount of success with these neurals because they were untouched by human hand… they were computer generated ratings.
Such was my success using these, I decided that ALL my work would be done using computer generated figures and my subsequent results and excitement bought me enjoyment of orgasmic proportions. That was the start of my crossover to the computer controlled tipping and advice, no more of this “people” putting their ideas forward, I needed something more calculated to this day and age. If we can’t win with all the technology at our fingertips, we shouldn’t bother trying at all.
Problems arise with errors in programming, but as the months/years drag on, the errors are things of the past…. I have almost reached the position that I’m happy with…. almost…. anomalies still occur that shake you down to your plums, but those little injuries are soon forgotten once the spreadsheets are in the profit situation, this is where I find myself at this juncture.
What you have done my mate, is to dredge something up from 14 years ago when the technology that we have now was not around, I find it pleasing that these old methods appear to stand the test of time with the new “knowledge”…. I’m hoping that this will be good when moving forward…. thanks Billy… may your skirts grow ever longer….

I am around but, just a lot business matters to attend to over the next 12 months that take priority.

I don’t get a lot of spare time to play.

    NEURALS . . . . !

Way back in the late 80,s or possibly the early 90’s was the time I started to get seriously interested in horse racing and at that time contributed to a magazine named SMART SIG and am sure nuerals cropped up at that time and if memory serves it was all about numbers and possibly reoccurrence and or sequence which I did not understand then and sure as God made little green apples I would not now that I have an ever shrinking brain.

Anyway MrE I do believe sometimes the old ones can still be good ones and perhaps Kersley‘s may be one of them and if you can put a modern spin on it there coould be a place for it in todays world.

I think your take on the modern media being very similar is also interesting’ having taken both the Mail and the Express today where 4 of the Mail’s 5 selections are doubled up in the Express who found 8 possible selections.

By the time I applied my acceptable odds filter I am only left with one: –

Plumpton 3.40 MINELLA GATHERING available at 5/2

    Good luck with yours.

Morning Bill, I hope that you’ve sobered up this morning and the hangover is not too severe.
It appears that the quality of racing today is a bit poor because I’m really struggling, I like the look of Minella Gathering also and is on my shortlist, it was a toss up between MG and The Drinkymeister in the 5.00 and I’ve The Drinkymeister slightly ahead of Minella. I could bet them both because the prices are reasonable, but because none of them are cut and dried, I’m not doing any… so it’s a NO BET day for me today….

Yeah MrE I hate that when two are so close and I think once again you are correct in doing nothing.

    I have a price movement regarding: –

5.10 Plumpton THUNDERING HOME which was below my minimum but now available at 11/4

    :bye: :bye: :bye:

THUNDERING HOME starts my new spread sheet in the Black whist Minella gathering lost.

Well done Willie, nice pick with Thundering Home, but that poses a bit of a problem my old goat…. if you are putting these selections up for use of the members, then Thundering Home is dead in the water. I am of the feeling that members wont keep checking to see if you have second thoughts, once your committed to selection A, anything subsequent becomes irrelevant because the members would have already signed off, you have already committed yourself to Minella Whatsherface…. I think that, if your selections process is open to change at anytime throughout the day, then you really should be posting at the latest possible time… I do not think it’s correct to add one as an afterthought.
OK mate, I agree that this is for playing only, but there has to be a line drawn just for the sake of true records…. for instance… today you added a horse at a later time that was a winner, but by that time, your other horse could have moved out of your price criteria and had become a non selection. This is just a bit hit and miss Bill, it’s OK for your own personal betting, but if any members are stupid enough to follow, they would have been on a loser and missed the winner that you claim… that’ll lead to future headaches. If we continue with this… and I have to admit that, at this stage it looks good, then there cannot be any doubt as to the selections because other member might be putting down real money on our say so… yes, I’ll agree that they would be nuts to do so, but there are those members who are listening to what we say and think we are talking sense, it wont take ’em long to wise up, but we shouldn’t take lightly their blind faith in us….

    You sure about that?

  yeah, your correct Purwell, who, in there right minds, are gonna take any notice of us old blunderers…. but, you never know, stranger things have come to pass…
It was something that made me wonder, is there any possibility that the old git may have stumbled onto something, but as you have already stated…. nobody cares… but at least it keeps the forum active and gives Matron a bit of company.

    Knuckles wrapped

I have never thought there could be any here who would risk their hard earned cash on any of my postings, no more than I would on theirs.

The joy of trying to find the Holy Grail of KISS style systems for me is the personal endeavour and I unreservedly apologise to those that may have misconstrued otherwise.

My intention has always been to post with a full description of how any method selection has been arrived at and once armed with the full knowledge of the components to hand then any member/reader can make adjustments to suit their own style.

I understand there are those and in my early years was in fact one, who feel uncomfortable making contributions or suggesting changes and perhaps prefer to go about trying what they may consider to be improvements in their own quiet way but I hope with the best of intentions an open attitude proves better for all concerned.

    Cheltenham
    3.30 Yanworth @ 11/4

    Southwell
    1.10 Storm King @ 11/8
    3.05 Escalating @ 3/1

    Sedgefield
    3.55 Raise a Spark @ 11/10

The remainder not yet available at my indicated minimum required price: –

    Sedgefield 1.20 Ask Paddy 7/4 – 2.35 Molly Carew 1/1

All are welcome to browse through Bill’s Emporium of Profit… the only cost to you all is a smile… :rose:

Hi Bill, it is a strange one today, we are both using the same criteria, the only difference is the actual racing papers that we use…. and once again we end up with differing selections, this is going to be an interesting exercise. My selections for inclusion into Bill’s Emporium are as follows….

    5.45 Wolv… Call Out Loud…. WIN @ 5.00… (2.42)…
    8.45 Wolv… Flood Warning…. WIN @ 5.39… (2.80)…

I dunno about you old Bill, but this idea of Kersley’s is turning me on… OK, I grant you that I’m using a different racing journal, but it’s one that’s available on the internet and , like the Racing Post, it’s free. I realise that it’s too early to form any conclusions, but from something that you brought up less than a week ago, I have had 6 wins from 9 selections which is showing a profit of + 17pts… that’s really some achievement…. even more impressive is that the PLACE part of it is still at 100%.
I think that this might have the legs to continue, probably not as well as it’s doing now, but over any length of time I would expect this to be profitable… well done old ‘un for unearthing this gem…. yes, I realise that your 4 years older than God, but your still moving the booty well….

Morning Bill…. I have three on my shortlist today, but they don’t pass ALL my criteria although they are close. I don’t want to relax the parameters just for the sake of finding a bet, so today is going to be another NO BET day.
But, just for interest and to find out how close we are in our selections, my shortlist is…. Meribel Millie… Outer Space… Cantlow….
All the best with yours Billy….

As yet at 11.00 a.m. I have not managed any of the indicated prices via my chosen bookies but there is still time.

FINAGHY AYR has cropped up via my original morning paper (Mail) and so we shall both be shouting it home I hope, but not with my changed “finder” which allows me to post overnight thus freeing me up during the mornings.
