Billy ‘Un has tempted me back to take a look at how you ladies are doing these days. I saw old Bill the other day and I have to admit that he looked quite fetching in his quaint little mini skirt…. he’s absolutely right when he says his ankles are still something to be admired and I find that the varicose veins are a bit of a turn on too.
Well my children, how is that nasty Matron treating you???… I guess that he’s getting too old to entertain many of you in his cell these days, I do hear the odd snippet leaking out of Ward 7 that says he’s had the op. It never really troubled me at the time, but now I find myself wondering whether the “op” was a lobotomy or around the nether regions…. I suppose that, in Matrons case, they boil down to the same thing.
Harping back to the more mundane of things, are you making any inroads into the bookies satchels???… I haven’t spent time reading through the posts yet, I must get around to doing that and trying to get up to date with happenings within this community…. as for myself, I am finding racing extremely profitable at present, it appears that I can’t put a foot wrong after being forced to look at different approaches…. profits abound out there girls…. well, they do in the short term, 6 months down the line though…. who knows????

March 1, 2017 at 17:28 #1289472Mini skirts and ankles indeed, me thinks you should go to Spec Savers and who knows what you might then see.
Dare I point you in the direction of Bladeblaster’s “Only CD” thread which has turned up a nice 5/1 winner today.
I have not checked your selections yet but hope there is a profit among them.
Nice to see you back on the boards MrE

March 1, 2017 at 20:04 #1289485Despite all the rumours MrE you are human after all.
Nevertheless there were a couple of nice seconds and you got your money back with a non runner.
We shall look forward to another bunch next time but it could be helpful if you tell us those we should not bet on

Have you booked an appointment yet at Spec Savers?

March 2, 2017 at 10:50 #1289537Billy my boy…. there was a reason that I put those 6 losers (and a n/runner) up yesterday, ’twas an effort to make you feel more comfortable. I can see from recent posts, that your losing streak is about as long as your ankle length skirt…. you needed to know that you and Matron are not alone when it comes to picking losers….
I am hopeful however, that I may yet turn this around although today’s pickings don’t look too exciting, nonetheless, I will try and keep this going for awhile or blow the bank….. there is a staking plan involved that I will tell you if and when required, but for awhile, just be satisfied with losing another series of 1pt bets today.
Catch you later Willie…..MrE
March 2, 2017 at 11:17 #12895422.10 Newc… Merdon Castle….
2.40 Newc… Ryan The Giant….
3.00 Taun… Flying Shadow…. Chato….
3.10 Newc… Be Perfect…. Lac Leman….
3.45 Newc… Cadeau Magnifique….
6.55 Chelm… Tripartite…. Magic City….
7.25 Chelm… Calvinist….I don’t like betting 3 in a race, but there is another one in the 3.10 Newc that has me “itching”…. so I might just have to give it a little scratch because of the price.
Just for interest only (and the price is tempting)…. win or lose, it won’t be counted as part of the above….
3.10 Newc… Major Rowan…. (stop laffing)…..MrE

March 2, 2017 at 19:00 #1289587Retirement should be the time of life in which to slow down and enjoy leisure pursuits etc. such as hobbies and my guilty pleasure is horse racing with small wagers to enhance the enjoyment.
That is the theory.
In reality I feel that there are fewer hours in the day and what there is to be done must be done sooner rather than later and at speed.
Our good friend MrE is very aware of my finding more losers than winners and perhaps because there is less time to find the solitude to indulge myself I have become accustomed to haste and so mistakes occur when they should not. Also with less time than I would like I have developed a niche for KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) systems and maybe the clue is in the title “STUPID” but I keep the faith and hope one day I will find the holy grail of such systems.
Being an inveterate favourite backer, after all they do or should win circa 25% of all races but is that good enough?
This afternoon MrE found another 2 very good second place selections at 15/2 and 7/1 (it is possible better prices may have been obtained) whilst I found 3 losing favourites which does not make for a happy demeanor and so somehow I must find some extra time from somewhere but meanwhile I know in my heart that those better price selections will soon turn a profit.

March 3, 2017 at 09:49 #1289654Ah!!!, my old friend Bill E Hun, it does my heart proud to see that you are, in fact, grasping the mettle. I have a little around a 20% strike rate, this means that I will get 80 losers out of the next 100 bets, so it is my plan to get rid of the 80 losers first and then sit back and let the remainder do their business.
I will explain in greater detail, if and when we move into profit, but you have already noticed that we are trying to hit the bigger prices and that will include the losing runs that accompany betting in the lower end of the market…. I will endeavour to explain in greater detail if I stick around, but as you know, I’m prone to wander.

March 3, 2017 at 10:10 #1289657I managed to find 8 winning favourites yesterday out of 11 bets, only problem was that I was laying them!

All points made by your good self are noted and understood and being an expert on going “walkabout” I can only concur it is good to be a free spirit. Knowing the trials we have both experience of late, if I were a drinking person I would raise a glass to you and say “Good on you mate”.
However my intention was to delve into the three elements of profit making via horse racing and as you know only too well is not my specialist subject, profit, that is.
1) Selection – 2) Prices – 3) Staking
I always like to pick a winner (Selection) but feel if the price obtained is “good” matters can take care of themselves but with the correct planning (Staking) it is possible to improve any possible returns. Aha, the Holy Grail.
An old article came my way via another member here originally from a 3rd member of this place regarding acceptable odds for favourites and although I am flirting with the concept I am avoiding the restriction of favourites only but because I am not form student I leave the selection to others who have a greater knowledge on the subject than I.
In a nutshell it easy to decide if the chosen selection should or not be worthy of betting simply on price alone (dare I say – value or not, I speak quietly not wishing to descend another sector of ambiguity) but the formula is very simple: –
Reduce the race number by one – say 11 declared and thus becomes 10.
Divide the new number (10) by 4 which is then 2.5 which is then the minimum odds to play (5/2)
Is this too easy?

March 3, 2017 at 17:37 #1289722Yup, hope you got some cash back from that one Mr E, nice shout
March 4, 2017 at 10:50 #1289823Yeah, I’m doing OK with the place bets, but that’s not the object of this homecoming. I was rather hoping for a better start than this on the win side of these bets, but the losing run continues…. so I have to man up, dry the tears, then continue to embarrass myself. The profits on these bets over the last 12 months has been unbelievable and I am hoping that it is just normal variance that has come into play, we will see in due course…. my longest losing run to date was 38, so we’re not even close to that yet, but for the sake of Billy’s sanity, I hope we turn it around this weekend….
