Bill…. yeah, the dreaded LLS, how does one cope with that???…. I don’t know the answer to that except to close my eyes and hope that I’m not sick. State of mind is probably the answer, you need to be comatose to ride through these and of late, I have found it unwise to look at results on a daily basis, it becomes soul destroying. So I opted for a 5 day “cycle” over which to apply my betting strategy…. this means that I don’t even look at results before the end of the 5 day “cycle”. I really wouldn’t know the results to date for this series of bets, if I hadn’t been posting up here everyday and it makes posting quite difficult again because of the “bowel syndrome” and that defeats the object of the “cycles”. Since I started posting again, I find myself worrying about losing runs, but it hasn’t bothered me one jot for the past 6 months…. it’s funny how posting here actually damages your confidence…. strange people us punters, full of self doubt.
The object of my cyclical betting was to attain fixed targets at various points throughout the year and to do it all from a 100pt bank…. I’ve been very successful thus far but I know that this is betting and I am fully aware that I can be blown out of the water at any time…. but it hasn’t happened yet.
I woke up a few months ago and found out that I wasn’t going to live forever…. that was a bit of a shock to the system…. it made me look at what I’ve got…. what I want to achieve…. and how long have I got to achieve it. I realised that after 50 years of betting, the fact that I was still in the game (and making modest profits), pushed me back into racing, but now I know that I am not going to make the fortunes that I’ve spent a betting lifetime searching for, but I am able to make steady inroads into supplementing my pension for the next couple of years… after that, I probably won’t care….
For me, the best way to overcome the losing runs (because there will be many), is to ignore them… granted, it doesn’t work for everybody, but it gives my old ticker a bit of respite…. my 5 day cyclical betting is working for yours truly and I would never have known that we were on a losing run if I hadn’t been posting on here….

OK, after the first 5 days of utter crap and a loss of 21pts, we move into the 2nd “cycle”… so for Day 6 through to Day 10, we play for 2pts a time….

Far be it for me to upset your throbbing part (sorry heart) MrE to make a daily comment regarding your selections and so I will have to become a nuisance to someone else.
Nevertheless you have already thrown up a changed line of thought, for me that is, and as always I only speak for myself when the grey matter starts to churn.
As previously said the suggestion of finding a minimum price in accord with the number of declared runners is being actively pursued and although intended for favourites I am sure can be extended to 2nd and 3rd by incorporating a different divisor such as 2 and 3 making the odds greater along with the greater calculated risk –
10 divide 4 = 2.5
10 divide 3 = 3.33
10 divide 2 = 5
Simple really.
Changing the direction slightly, my mind is working in tandem with Bladeblaster‘s CD only system it may be possible to loosen the rules but apply a minimum price as per your own 8/1 starting point.

You might as well try another angle Billy my boy, this particular idea appears to have hit the buffers…. I will keep sticking these up until the banks gone, after all, faint heart never won fair lady. The thing is mate, I can’t sit and watch these go down the pan because it becomes demoralising and I end up throwing the toys out, this is why I adopt the staking mechanism that I use…. so I just bang on 2pts win on every bet until in profit or broke… it’s worked for the last 18 months and I see no reason to bottle now…. today is Day 7, so I’ll see you after Day 10…..

I share you pain MrE and understand the heartbreak of opening up a new subject in which you believe and has proved profitable then to watch what does feel like disintegration when going public.
I think we have all been there and would love to know what forces are at work to allow such things to happen.
I start to tinker and know now this to be foolhardy because what has worked, will work again given time and perhaps the right conditions.
I did earlier mention the possibility of poor and ever changing ground conditions during the winter as being one consideration but if I may there could be another.
There are many who suggest the punters NH betting book either could or should be closed following the Cheltenham festival and I am wondering if this possibility could be a little earlier. On the brink of the most important festival as we now find ourselves the field sizes start to shrink, why?
Are the majority of trainers concentrating on Cheltenham leaving the scraps for the lesser lights and so is the form book of little value?
We will never know the answers because whereas one trainer may be thinking “this” another maybe thinking “that” and because we do not know and never will the rhythm of systems are disrupted.
Your selection system has not yet run a full 12 month period and so it cannot be concluded to be a duffer. We did mention trends and perhaps there will be seasonal or monthly trends on which you can reflect at a later date.
Hang in there my friend because with the wealth of your experience and all those hundreds of hours of graft will again prove profitable given a little time and perhaps a rest but only you will know best.

Sadly the posts are somewhat scrambled with age or perhaps Matron did a little interfering, who knows?
My question to you is quite simply, if you was to apply such a simple system today, how would you go about it?
Kersly suggests it could also be used with the D. Mail (of which I have at hand) and as Formcast 78 is only ever awarded to one top rated horse the problem of joint top rated will never occur and also suggests any rating can be used.
As I “type” a 3/1 winner has been found 2.20 Catterick. 11/2 2nd 2.00 Lingfield and 8/13 winner for the 2.30 Lingfield.
With 100% naivety I have applied my own filters and one or two were suggested back in the day and arrived at: –

Wow!!!!!….. 14 years ago, that’s nearly a lifetime.
Way back then I was a mere whippersnapper but I always remember having money in the accounts and I still remember the fun… I suppose I’ve just got more miserable as I’ve got older. Yeah, I still remember Dave, the Nutter from Norfolk, Kersley too… and some of those old systems did the business. The problem is mate, that too many years (and house moves) have passed and everything slowly gets lost or mislaid and forgotten… there was various profitable ideas around and I’ve often wondered about the possibilty of these old systems if combined with all the newfangled ratings and suchlike that abound now.
You’ll have to refresh my memory with the K2 Variant… and even the K1 would be a starting point, I even remember that I did very well out of a system that I called “Betty’s Bet”, I must look that up over the next few days. At present, I am looking to see what went wrong with my present systems as per the selections on this thread, they are absolutely dire after the last 18 months results…. I have made a few alterations to these systems in an effort to get the selections earlier than I have been doing, I normally can’t get these selections before 12.30pm because those are the prices that I have been using. I wanted to get the selections a lot earlier, so I opted for the early morning prices, that’s where it appears to have fallen apart… so I need to put a few hours in on this first.
After that Billy my boy, my body is all yours, but be gentle with me…. Matron has spent too many years abusing said body and I now am in need of gentle pampering. I like the idea of going back through the old stuff and seeing what things look like in a new light, I’m all for teaming up with you Bill and we’ll have us a little snigger… we could be Bill and Ben, the flowerpot men…..
