Despite no wanting to do a “book”, I’ve added Sub Lieutenant, as I laid off A Toi Phil, so “green” already on my Exchange bets, but not overall, as it doesn’t include Any Second Now.

I’ve also added Dallas Des Pictons, but he might be this year’s Blow By Blow. Outside chance of very nice trade though.

    Any Second Now 25’s NRNB
Any Second Now 33’s EW 5 Places

    Exchange
    A Toi Phil 530’s (Laid 70’s)
    Dallas Des Pictons 1000’s
    Sub Lieutenant 200’s
    Valtor 230’s

I still like Potters Corner here, but at 20-1, I have decided to wait until nearer the time.

I’ve cooled a little bit on Lord Du Mesnil here, but I do like him today. It’s a horse he’s running against today that I like, and he’s obviously a popular selection on here. I’ve went with One For Arthur at 33-1 ew 5 places.

I don’t bet very often on the exchange, but 80-1 Borice looks worth an early bet as well.

    My first two bets
    One For Arthur 33-1 ew
    Borice 80-1

With Betfair still offering 50/1 about Lord Du Mensil I’ve had to have a go in the event the ground comes up soft. I was after one at bigger odds and he’ll do me nicely for now.

Definitly Red will likely be my only other bet at least until closer to the day. Traffic Fluide could enter calculations after his run today, but will need another run (and a clear round) before committing. Until then it’s…

    Walk In The Mill 20/1
    Kimberlite Candy 25/1
    Magic Of Light 25/1
    Lord Du Mensil 50/1

Does Traffic Fluide have to complete a chase this season to qualify? Or is the rule that he has to compete in one?

Just compete. One For Arthur failed to complete on both chase starts last season, but was still eligible to run.

Step Back wasn’t entered here (just as well given his jumping last year).

That should have made my shortlist much more open than last time but it appears I’ve settled on one horse already.

Now McGinty strikes me as a mad price at 100s (I’ve whacked a couple quid on at crazier prices on the exchanges). His run in the Welsh National really disappointed me travelling quite poorly. His comeback run was superb though pushing a 90% fit Santini pretty close. I’m not taking that form literally at all, but neither is the handicapper and he’s off 147. Not guaranteed to get a run, but imagine he does (58th in the pecking order and presumably not all of the Irish entries will go here rather than Fairyhouse). He had good form as a novice chaser too, most notably when beating De Rasher Counter at Chepstow. Obviously he has negatives, but nothing that would concern me at these odds.

2nd most appealing (but would have no clue whether he goes here yet) would be Champagne Classic. Could easily have a tough race at Cheltenham though which would be off-putting so can’t play him yet. Suspect a mark of 152 ought to be manageable.

Oddly, don’t like the look of any of the market principals. Kimberlite Candy maybe? Nothing really grabbing my eye currently.

Don’t think we’ll see Step Back the same as that day at Sandown Krypton. I really did think he was going places.

Champagne Classic is still high on my shortlist, I really do think there’s a good chance he’ll go here.

Reading between the lines, I get the impression from the trainer, that we won’t be seeing Arthur this year.

I had a look at my ante post bets today [of which they are legion]. Still happy’ish with Le Breuil. Native River won’t run. Ramses de Telle [sp] I’m very happy with and yet he’s still 40/1. Ballypotic [who was my first bet and quite often my first bet wins…if I do win, that is] I’ve got at 50’s. But I’m still not sure about his jumping, brilliant as he was yesterday. I backed Elegant Escape yesterday in case he ran well but he was dire. Anyone know what reason they gave? Backed Definitely Red the other day although still have to avoid going into Holland and Barrett in Berwick on Tweed having told a guy who works there to back DR the other year [a cat came into the garden with a red collar; we never get cats in the garden so I took it as a sign]. Still think Nationals are won by first time runners though. This must be the first year ever that I didn’t study the race as soon as the weights came out; not sure why. Old age and senility perhaps. Was very impressed by Lord du Mesnil yesterday but think he’s too young. Then again, Many Clouds was still actually a 7 year old when he won [Mr Hemmnings told us that at Wetherby she says name dropping; sorry…]

…I also backed Traffic Fluide yesterday both in yesterdays race [sob] and the National so hope he’s ok.

Pleasant Company running at Fairyhouse on Saturday
a quiet spin around at the back of the field the order of the day
33’s seem okay for this considering his last two efforts at Aintree

I’d agree Nathan, 33’s is a fair price, and you at least know he’ll be Aintree bound.

He’s up against one of my fancies today, Sub Lieutenant.

I’d be surprised if either won, but let’s hope they book their ticket.

Apart from diving at the last, I was very happy with Any Second Now, so very hopeful.
